I know it took a while, but I'm finally releasing the moral opposite of the Solver and the golden retriever of this series, being my last large proposal of the show since I'm done with Uzi and the Solver itself. It's been a week, and I'm sorry for that, but now that I'm here I can do this. I will note that this will be one of the biggest proposals I've ever made and while most believe he counts I see his case as a more complex one, and it is not without issues.
Similar to what I said in the Solver's proposal, N has factors that need to be discussed that I understand why some people would doubt him despite myself believing he counts. Regardless of that, I won't deny that N is the big reason why I kept my reservations for this show even when I didn't expect much from it. Where he would end up was the thing that made me continue with this series even after it seemed it was going downhill back in mid 2023 with the fifth episode. So I won't deny that I will have a lot of fun talking about him and detail his character, so let's start.
What's the work?
Murder Drones is an animated webseries produced by Liam Vickers and made by Glitch Productions. It follows the teenage robot Uzi Doorman in her adventures in her world of Copper 9 in the distant future of 3071. One of the first being where she leaves her colony to face the Disassembly Drones, robots who were trying to wipe out her kind The Worker Drones. There, she met one of them, who is the character we're discussing.
Who is N and what has he done?
Serial Designation N is one of the three Disassembly Drones apparently sent by JCJenson to wipe out all the Worker Drones in Copper 9 before meeting Uzi and changing his mind. However, it didn't start that way. N was presumably a Worker Drone who was disposed off and thrown in the garbage by his previous owner, before being found by the girl Tessa Elliott, the daughter of the Elliotts, a family of rich high members of the company JCJenson, who had interest in Worker Drones and liked to take them to her family's mansion, dress them up and give them new lives.
N became Tessa's favourite Worker Drone, and the Eliotts would make him into their butler. After this, he developed a crush for another Worker Drone named V, and she reciprocated but both were too timid and afraid of how the other would react to say it. N would also gain the dislike of one other Worker Drone, J, who would mistreat him every chance she could because she found him annoying.
Tessa's parents found what Tessa did to the Worker Drones she got from the garbage to be creepy, and tried to forbid her from continuing to do so, but up until that point everything was mostly going well for N and the other Worker Drones. This all changed when Tessa brought a Worker Drone named Cyn into the mansion. Unbeknownst to everybody, Cyn was being used as the host of the Absolute Solver, an evil Eldritch being capable of posessing Worker Drones if they failed to be fully disassembled, which was what happened with Cyn.
As time in the mansion went on, the Solver gained an interest towards N, and found his personality to be endearing. As its interest towards the Worker Drones in the mansion grew, the Solver would bring the drones to the basement to make experiments on them, ripping them appart while they were alive and unable to do anything as it tried to turn them into its weapons it called the Disassembly Drones.
Despite N being the one the Solver had the most interest in, V ended up being the first to start becoming the image of the Disassembly Drones she wanted to make. To keep what was happening a secret, the Solver would erase the memories of N to make sure not to remember what it did to him. The Elliotts also started to put most of Tessa's Worker Drones in the library, with presumably the exception of J who motivated Tessa into becoming a more "suitable daughter" for the Elliotts.
N would oftentimes stay in the library on his own will in comparison to the other Worker Drones who were always shut off, presumably because of the Solver prefering to be with N more than any other Worker Drone in the mansion. However, Tessa would often be glad to see N if she could. One day, while reading a book in the library, N met with the Solver, who convinced him to bring it to the gala. There, they meet with Tessa and J, and just when N was begining to ask why Tessa would have "Cyn" put in the basement, Tessa's mother Louisa would appear and tell Tessa that she wouldn't entertain the idea of having her "dumpster pets" at the gala.
She then saw the Solver, whom she had told Tessa to keep out of her sight, and thought that Tessa was disobeying her. Because of this, she told Tessa they were removing the Worker Drones out of the mansion's library the next day, while also saying for Tessa not to test her. The Solver then says that they weren't broken wouldn't be thrown out anymore. This infuriates Louisa, leading to N lying that he had told it to say that because he liked breaking rules, while also insulting Louisa's intelligence.
This leads to Louisa having N trapped in a tree outside the mansion to be devoured by crows, whom he initially gets along before another crow grabs the stick N was throwing to them, leading to them beggining to really start biting him. After this, the Solver massacred everyone at the gala, as well as Tessa, before later turning the Worker Drones in the mansion, including N, into Disassembly Drones.
After doing so, the Solver had its Drones kill all life on Earth, before blowing up the planet's core. However, some humans, mainly scientists working under JCJenson in the exo-planets, were able to survive, going to the exo-planets to try to find a way to stop the Solver by creating Worker Drones with Solver abilities that could fight against the Solver and its army of Disassembly Drones. To make sure that the humans couldn't do it, the Solver would attack the exo-planets, destroying them and killing the humans located in the systems of Proxima and Plat-Binary, before going to the last one in the Copper 9 System.
After failing to destroy the planet but still wiping out all humans there thanks to Yeva who stopped the Solver's posession of her friend Nori using a crucifix-like patch, the Solver decided to sent its main Disassembly Drones, J, V and N, to eliminate all Worker Drones in Copper 9 to stop them from obtaining the crucifix patch and finding a way to defeat it. During these events, the Solver wiped out all memories of N's past from his mind, including him taking part in wiping out humans on Earth, and made him think he was working for JCJenson, who sent them there to wipe out rebellious drones.
It also threatened V into staying distant from N by threatening to kill them both if she didn't follow its orders, so while N still had a crush on her, V acted cold towards N to protect him from the Solver. J would also continue to abuse him, calling him useless and terrible and saying that if the "company" allowed her, she would personally kill him. N didn't like the way he was treated, but let it slide and put it in his mind that V and J were great coworkers.
One day, the daughter of Nori Uzi had grown tired of hiding behind the doors of her colony made by her father Khan and decided to face the Disassembly Drones herself. After lying to her father to convince him into allowing her to leave the outpost, Uzi went to the Disassembly Drones' landing pod to find one of them, which lead to her facing N. Initially, N tried to kill her and the two got in a fight, but after Uzi shot N's head off with her railgun, he lost his memories of the past few hours and was unable to see clearly after his head regenerated, leading to him believing Uzi was a new Disassembly Drone unit that came to the planet to help them.
After Uzi convinced N to go to the inside of the landing pod, the two would begin talking together, with N mentioning V and J and revealing how cold and ruthless they were in the process, not only to Worker Drones but also towards N himself. While they were talking, Uzi sees that the landing pod was actually a spaceship that could get them off the planet, and suggest to N that both the Worker Drones and the Disassembly Drones could work together to fix it, before asking why the latter were killing the former. N explains that outside of consuming their oil to avoid overheating, he just wanted to feel useful and do his best at the job he was given.
Uzi tells N that serving JCJenson didn't get him any respect, and asks if he didn't think the company would dispose of them once all the Worker Drones had been killed. Whie N finds Uzi rebellious nature exciting, he decides not to change his mind as he prefers to follow the rules. Just then, V and J appeared, leading to Uzi running away and try to return to the outpost. J would then slap N, leading to his system rebooting and remember the events that had happened and returning his vision, causing him to remember Uzi was a Worker Drone and had a railgun that could kill his team, so he goes after her.
At the outpost, Uzi tries to close the door to the outside to stop any of the Disassembly Drones from coming in, but just as it was closing, N appeared and used the stinger in his tail to infect the controls of the door with a virus, leading to him hacking and opening it. N initially seems interested in the card game the Worker Drones were playing, but imediately apprehended himself and decided to that he needs to kill everyone there.
After killing multiple of the Worker Drones, Uzi's father Khan appeared, but just before she could explain what had happened, N appeared, pinned Uzi to a wall, and took off the railgun from her arms leading to it falling next to Khan. Uzi begged her father to help her, but Khan was so afraid of N that he left his daughter for dead and locked the rest of the doors in the outpost. Uzi was heartbroken and N felt bad for her, but when he saw his teamates nearby, N threw Uzi into a garbage disposal so they wouldn't see her.
After getting complimented by V and J, N asks the latter if she has any idea of what the company plans to do with them after the Worker Drones were wiped out, as the company seemed to dislike drones and they were drones as well. This gives J suspition of N, who, seeing his questioning of the orders given to them as an act of rebellion, infects N with a virus, saying that he has finally given her an excuse to kill him. J then mocks N after he compliments her for being awesome before leaving.
Right after this, Uzi gets off the garbage disposal, with N apologizing for what he had done to her, although she calls him getting killed by J fair as he had tried to kill her. She then tries to climb through the ventilantion shafts to try to stop V and J, but was too short to get to them. She thens mocks N for having "the lamest heel-face turn" in history. After noting that he had screwed up, Uzi decided to remove the virus inside N so he could help her stop V and J, with N happily agreeing.
The two then get through the ventilation shafts and arrive when V was about to kill Uzi's friend Thad, thus saving his life. The duo would then fight J and V, with J getting killed by Uzi while V was captured by them. After this, Uzi calls her father out on leaving her for dead, before telling everyone that she is banishing herself from the colony, leaving with N and the captured V.
Later, Uzi is seen on top of a car while dawn was happening, with N, hiding in a cave, telling her that he would happily go to her, he can't as the sun would kill him, although he hopes Uzi is having "important character growth or something". Uzi then announces to N her plan to murder all humans. Weeks later, N has a dream about his past of when he first met Cyn/the Absolute Solver.
After waking up, he finds out that he had been the one who piloted the landing pod, before asking Uzi if murdering all humans was a morally good act. Uzi justifies herself by telling N that the humans who sent them to Copper 9 hadn't given them a comunication relay and had erased their memories, which means they wanted to cover their tracks. Because of this, Uzi believes they're past negotiating, bringing up her mother as a drone JCJenson didn't try to negociate with. V then tells Uzi that maybe she missed the negotiations and that since her team had been sent to "solve a problem", the Worker Drones weren't really innocent.
This angers Uzi who tries to attack her with a screw driver, although N stops her. He then tells Uzi that J was getting orders from someone, and if she didn't using the relay, how would she be able to do such. Later, N and Uzi go outside the landing pod, where they meet Thad who gives Uzi her railgun, before telling Uzi that he saw J's body crawling away and that there were recent disappearances in the colony, which leads to Uzi deciding to return there alongside N. At the entrance of the outpost, they meet with a Worker Drone who questions N due to him being a Disassembly Drone, with N giving him a drawing apologizing for what he had done.
The drone forgives him and allows him to get in along with Uzi and Thad. They then go to an investigation scene where a drone had gone missing, with them following the oil of the dead drone to a crate which had writen about the Absolute Solver. Seeing this, Uzi comes to believe the Solver is an auto-run program who goes to find enough matter to fix the wounds severe enough that could kill a Disassembly Drone.
Just when she was in the middle of her theory, Uzi is told to be quiet when they see a hand approaching them, which grabs Thad's leg. They then look for the hand's origin and find N shoots at it, leading them to see a giant robotic abomination. It then tries to drag Thad but he ends up getting saved by N who cuts the hand with a shuriken. The creature then hits N and Uzi, knocking them on the ground, before grabbing Thad and leaving.
Uzi and N go after it and find the creature using a hologram to try to fake being Thad, with neither N or Uzi believing it, leading to them saving Thad from it. Thad then thanks Uzi and N for saving him twice and offers them an invite to a party of his before leaving. The creature then explains its goal to repair J to make her its new hosts, revealing itself to be the Absolute Solver, before showing Uzi a hologram of her mother and Uzi as a baby. The Solver then creates a hologram of her father and makes it look like it ripped him in half and devoured him in front of her, while also tricking her into lowering her guard by using a hologram of N, then pinning her to a wall and preparing to devour her.
Just then, N rescues Uzi and blows up the Solver's body, with only the core remaining. It tries to sneak up on and attack N and Uzi, but ends up repeatedly stung by N before turning into a small black hole and leaving. N then tried to comfort Uzi but she is scared of him and asks "what are you things". Before N can explain, other Worker Drones, including Uzi's father, appear, and seeing that Uzi wasn't trusting him, he decided to leave, but not before he saw Uzi hugging her father and Khan finding where he was and begining to stare at him.
N goes back to the landing pod, where V initially begins to mock N for being sadened over what had happened with Uzi, but deciding to stay with him when she saw that her chains were broken. A few days after this, N talks with V about wanting to wear a dapper suit after she had him bring suits from the corpses of humans, before telling V that they can't interact with the Worker Drones because him and her were too dangerous.
V suggests to N that they should use Uzi to get into the outpost and kill everyone there, but N tells her he won't allow her to murder anyone, before asking how she doesn't care about how they have no idea who they even are and being seemingly apathetic about their past and what happened with J. V, suprisingly, becomes concerned and tells N to not pry into their past, before promising to N that if he frees her, they'll only kill what they need to survive together.
N tells V that if she is hiding something, they can figure it out together, and asks her what she knows even if they both only have fragmaments in their minds. Just before finishing saying this, however, V cuts off his head, saying that she knows what is best for him, even if she hates him for doing it, before leaving to go to the colony and kill everyone there. N later gets his head regenerated and tries to go after V, but not before putting on his dapper suit.
While going to look for V, N finds Uzi, and while he initially tries to stay distant due to not believing that she would want to talk to him, Uzi asks for his help, with N being happy and declaring the two as "dapper buddies". At the school's prom, they find V, but not actually trying to kill anyone, which confuses them. Then, Doll, one of Uzi's classmates who is actually a Solver user and the daughter of Yeva, uses her powers to push every Worker Drone asside and activates a trap for V, piercing her arms with iron bars and making her unable to escape. Doll reveals her plans to murder V out of revenge for murdering her parents.
When she was about to do it, though, N and Uzi save V. Doll then asks Uzi why she is working with the Disassembly Drones despite them having killed family members of other drones, including Uzi herself. She explains that she is doing so because Uzi believes that they were being made to fight by the people who started this conflict, and that she is not dealing with everything around her well, she is going to deal with things with others and that is the only way for them to move foward. Doll rejects what Uzi is saying when she implies she needs help, and launches knifes at the trio.
To protect Uzi, N pushes her away before giving her a thumbs up and her and V get hit by the knifes. While Uzi and Doll fought, Lizzy, who had betrayed Doll when she realized she had grown to care for Uzi and tried to warn her about it, helped in putting the seperated limbs of the duo so they could help in stopping Doll. After getting put back together, N helped in fighting Doll, and during this saved her from multiple of Doll's attacks and even took a hit from a table to protect her.
Uzi was then able to defeat Doll, with V shooting her in the back of her head. After this, N explains how V is hiding things, before Uzi discovers the keys to Doll's home while searching her body, with the three going there. Arriving at her home, they find that Doll has killed many Worker Drones and was eating them to consume their oil, as well as her parent's corpses, which they find a tag with her mother that she got while being experimented on with the Solver back in the underground labs of Copper 9. Just then, Doll appears and tries to shoot Uzi, but she accidentally stops the bullet using her Solver.
Seeing this, Doll feels empathetic towards Uzi's situation and promises to help her get rid of her Solver if she is able to get what she wants, leaving before Uzi or V could attack her. Uzi expresses irritation at this and says that "she hates it here". Several days later, Uzi convinced her teacher to bring her to Camp 98.7 in order to find more about Doll and her Solver powers. However, he decided to bring all the students with lower grades with her as well, as their test scores lead to him not getting a year-end bonus.
Because of that, N and V were sent to look after the campers, although V didn't care much and was willing to kill one of them when they didn't answer a question, which N called her out for. While N was initially against allowing Uzi to go by herself to look further into the camp, he ended up being convinced and allowed her to go while he stayed with the campers.
While with the campers, the group tried to use canoes in an frozen river, with V trying to push over N's canoe as a way to sabotage his group. This leads to one of them, Rebecca, almost falling into the river, with N saving her. Later, the group tried to practice archery, with N hitting the targets perfectly due to his aim given to him as a Disassembly Drone, with him asking if this counted as cheating.
A few seconds later, N saw Uzi, who asked him not to talk to V that she was there. N then asks her to come to the group, which accidentaly reveals Uzi to V. Uzi then tries to greet the others, but one of the classmates accidentaly shoots Uzi with an arrow, which lead to her using her Solver powers to stop it.
Just then, Uzi's Solver turned the arrow into an organic small creature, which horrifies everyone, leading to Uzi going away and hiding in a cabin so she wouldn't use her Solver on anyone. After this, V tries to go after Uzi to kill her, but N stops her and asks her what she was so afraid of, calling her out on trying to kill Uzi even though she was just like V is.
N then leaves to find Uzi, while telling V to stay to look after the campers. While looking for Uzi, N enters a cabin where he finds a tape that said "Zombie Drones", and after touching it, N gains memories of his past with the Solver and the destruction of Earth, which horrifies him.
Later, Uzi gets posessed by the Solver, and begins killing and devouring her classmates, but just as when she was about to kill V, N stops her and throws her in the air. He then talks with her, telling her that before he met Uzi he was scared of things around him, and that day he felt the same because she wasn't there to somehow make it better, with Uzi feeling the same.
N then tells Uzi that they'll stick together, with Uzi turning into normal after this. While on the bus to return to the outpost, N sees that Uzi was getting hurt by sunlight similar to the Disassembly Drones, so he moves her hand away from it. Sometime later, the Absolute Solver hacked into N and V in an attempt to erased their memories and turn them into its pawns again, so Uzi hacks into their minds as well to try to stop it.
Inside their minds, the events that happened at the day of the gala massacred occoured for the most of it, but with Uzi trying to warn N about what was happening to little success. After getting tied into a tree by Louisa and the crows began to try to eat him, the events began to change, as Uzi saved N from the crows, even posessing one, and broke N free from his chains. Just while explaining what was happening in the present day and that they needed to get to the basement of the mansion's library to stop N from getting his meories' wiped, Uzi's dad appeared in her room, where Uzi was in to try to hack into N and V's minds, which lead to her briefly losing connection of her crow to tell her father not to come in and close the door to her room to make sure he didn't.
After reconnecting into N and V's memories, she finds out that N went inside the mansion, and that he stopped when he saw a dead Worker Drone and skeleton with wings above V, who was shut down right in front of it. However, they still try to get inside the basement, only to find out that they needed the keys to enter it, which were with J. N and Uzi then went to her and Tessa, where Uzi gets the keys before Tessa explains the Solver's plans to massacre the gala.
Just after this, they see V, having been posessed by the Solver, crawling on the seeling. V then tries to attack Tessa, only for it to be stopped by J, who tells N and Uzi that she and Tessa will take care of V while they go to the basement. N and Uzi then go there and open the basement door, only for the Solver, posessing a machine with cameras, to appear, destroy Uzi's crow, and try to drag N down the basement. However, just before it could, Uzi hacked into the machine.
Then, they see the Solver posessed V, who tries to attack them but Uzi ends up draging N to the basement to hide from it. They then see the experiments the Solver was doing there, and they then plan to leave the memories, only for Uzi to lose conection due to Doll in the present appearing in Uzi's room. While that was happening, the Solver regained control of its machine and tried to reset N's memories. However, due to the machine not being good at grabbing things, the Solver brought the posessed V, but she ends up not being able to grab the scalpel needed to reset N, which lead to the Solver grabbing her head and begining to threaten her, but ends stops it from going any further by giving V her glasses so she can grab the scalpels.
Just then, N is able to break through V's brainwashing from the Solver, but it ends up pinning V into a wall before trying to open N's head. However, at the very moment it was going to do so, Uzi hacked into the Solver's machine and stopped it. She then gets N and V out of their memories, and after this, they go after Doll, who had taken the keybug Uzi found at Camp 98.7, and find her with J and Tessa.
Right after this, Tessa hugs N, before explaining she is there to stop the Solver as it was last seen looking for the trio in the exo-planets. Before she could say more, however, Doll grabbed the keybug from Tessa and went into the planet's underground labs. J and Tessa then explain that the Solver had plans on entering the underground labs after wiping out all life on the planet, so they had stop it by destroying the labs, and thus they needed the keybug.
J was then sent by Tessa to take care of her ship, while she went to the labs with N, Uzi and V to find Doll. At the labs, Tessa tried to gain control of the labs' security systems, but ended up failing. At that very moment, she was grabbed and dragged away by a large tentacle, with Uzi, N and V going after her. There, they find a baby robot filled with blood faking laughter on the floor, with the trio noticing it was a trap.
N begins shooting at the baby, who escapes using large arachni-like mechanical feet. He then appears behind the trio alongside a Worker Drone with an ID with the name Alice, who activates a EMP using the hand of a murdered Disassembly Drone, knocking them out. Uzi and V were seperated from N, who ended up in the same room where Tessa was being held. The robot baby, Beau, began to try to dissect him, but despite this, N acted friedly towards Beau and told them what part of his body they should begin cutting to help in his dissection.
However, before they began, Alice called Beau through a walkie-talkie about how she needed more sedatives to deal with Uzi, whom she refers to as Nori's child. Beau then left the room to go to Alice, but not before waving goodbye to N. After they had left, Tessa freed herself and did the same to N, asking him if they could talk while walking through the lab. Shortly after this, Beau went back to the room and finds out that Tessa and N had escaped, which leads them worried and they returned to Alice to warn her.
N and Tessa were nearby, and seeing Beau going to another room, he understands that they were going to where Uzi and V were being held in. Tessa then shows N pictures of Earth destroyed in one of the labs' computers, which leaves him horried. Tessa explains how the Solver took Cyn as a host, destroyed Earth, how humans in exo-planets experiment on Worker Drones to try to understand the Solver and find a way to stop it, and that the Solver went to those exo-planets to stop the humans from achieving their goals and wipe them out.
She also explains that experimenting on the Worker Drones only spread the Solver, with N asking her if they could fix Uzi and get rid of her Solver. Tessa, however, tells N that he needs to choose the universe over Uzi when they are able to find the list of which drones were infected by the Solver once they get to the underground labs. Just before anything could be said, though, a sentinel appeared and attacked N, putting him in boot-loop and throwing him into a wall.
Before it could devour N, however, Tessa tried to calm the sentinel down, although it lead to it biting her arm, causing the sentinel to lose control due to breaking its program to not hurm humans and knocking itself out by beating itself on a wall. Just then, multiple sentinels appeared, but before anything could be done by them, the door to the room where Uzi, V, Alice and Beau were opened, with the sentinels going to it and leaving N and Tessa. Alice and Beau were killed, but Uzi and V were able to escape and regroup with N and Tessa.
V then calls Tessa out on being unable to control the sentinels, planning on leaving the labs with Uzi and N. Tessa, however, was able to convince N to stay as she admits she hadn't told V about everything, which leaves V questioning what Tessa had told him. However, Uzi woke up and hugged N, which caused any possible arguments that could have come from there to end there, although Tessa walked next to V and started staring at her threateningly.
The four would then go further into the lab, hiding from the sentinels, and eventually finding Doll, who had been boot-looped by a sentinel and holding the keybug on her hand. N, Uzi and V quickly see its a trap, but when Uzi tries to use her Solver, she is imediatly stopped by N. Just then, Tessa grabbed the keybug from Doll's hand, which convinced the trio to think it was okay. Just after they went to Tessa, Doll appears behind them, reveals that the boot-loop was fake, brings the elevator to the labs further underground, opens the doors to allow the sentinels to come there to kill the four, before leaving in the elevator.
While V and Tessa tried to fight off the sentinels, Uzi tried to open the elevator using her Solver. However, using it caused her hand to be posessed by the Absolute Solver, leading to N cutting it to stop the Solver from using posessing her, although with little success as it took over Uzi's body just to ask N if he missed it before leaving. Uzi's Solver, however, was able to open a hole through the elevator, allowing N, Uzi and Tessa to get inside, although V was still busy fighting off a sentinel.
Just after defeating it, V saw another sentinel grabbing the controls to the elevator so it would open and allow the other sentinels to attack the trio. To stop them, V cut off the cables of the elevator, but not before telling Uzi that she trusted her. V then salutes the trio, before getting attacked and presumably devoured by the sentinels. After getting as further underground as the elevator went, N tried to remove the rubble around it to get back up there to get to V, even telling Uzi to use her Solver to help him. However, he ends up seeing that he almost nearly hit Uzi with the rubble, leading to him trying to apologize.
Before he could continue, though, Tessa told N that they would get V once they found what they wanted from the labs, and told Uzi to stay near the boxes there while they searched the labs while asking her if robots liked boxes. N, listening to this, is visibly irritated by Tessa's offensive suggestion towards Uzi, but agrees with her in that Uzi would probably not like what was in the labs so he tells her to stay near the elevator, but promises Uzi they weren't going to hurt her.
However, the suggestion that they would hurt her lead to her getting worried, with the Absolute Solver controling her hand and destroying the seeling right after, leading to the trio getting seperated. N then wakes up and sees his arm is stuck in the fallen debbris, so he decides to try to cut it off. Just then, a hologram of V, who was actually the Solver appears, which horrifies N and he decides to try to cut off his arm faster.
While he was doing it, the Solver explains how it missed N and how he was the main reason his team remained with their personalities, as it was intriged by N who always loved to do anything. The Solver would then grab N and hug him, which leads to him regaining the memories of the destruction of Earth, leaving him horrified. Right after this, the Solver tries to drag N deeper into the labs to turn him into its servant again, but before they arrived there, a core of a Worker Drone, who was actually Uzi's mother Nori, rescued N and the two were able to escape from the Solver.
While they were escaping, N reveals that he actually knows Nori's daughter, with Nori then explaining to N what caused the destruction of Copper 9's core and the extinction of all humans there, as well as how she met Uzi's father and had her. She then tells N that the Solver returned to Copper 9 to end everything there for good, with her asking him who was their host. N tells her that they were Uzi and Doll, but she then asks who the host that was after them, with N not knowing who it was.
Nori then gives the crucifix patch to N so they could get rid of the Solver from Uzi's body, and while walking there, N tells Nori that he plans to tell Uzi everything she told him. Nori, however, threatened to kill him if he dared tell her daughter she is alive, as she felt it would be a burden for her to know and reveals that she blames herself for what happened to the planet and Uzi. Nori then asks N if he promises not to tell Uzi about her being aliove, with N telling her he would wait until Nori would be fine telling herself.
N then goes to the main lab, where he finds Tessa about to kill Uzi. Before she could, though, N pointed a sword at her neck and gave her a chance to ask if she knew about the crucifix patch or not, as if she did it would mean she was lying to him about Uzi needing to be killed to stop the Solver. Tessa, however, points the sword away and tries to ask N if he knows why she keeps him around. However, N cuts off Tessa's head before she could continue, and while horrified about what he had done, he goes to Uzi and tells her that he needed her so they could figure things out together.
At that very moment, though, Uzi breaks N's hand and destroys the patch, and her face is revealed, she had been posessed by the Absolute Solver. It pinned N to a wall before preparing to kill him since he served his purpose. When it was about to kill him, however, Nori stopped it and saved N, with the duo begining to fight the Solver. While at multiple points it seemed the Solver had the upper hand, they ended up beating her, and just when it was about to be finished, the Solver tricked N into receiving the blow which caused him to get knocked out.
It then grabbed Nori and tried to devour her, but just then, N revealed to Nori that he and Uzi were dating, which angers Nori so much she slaps the posessed Uzi so hard she gets knocked on the ground. This leads to Uzi regaining control of her body, but ends up kicking Nori into a hole that lead to the planet's core for being angered that she was dating a Disassembly Drone, unaware she was her mother. Uzi and N would then hug each other, and while that was happening, Tessa put her head back together and took off her suit, and it's then revealed that Tessa was killed on Earth, and the Solver had posessed her body all along.
It would then begin to devour N and stab Uzi, before leaving into the hole and revealing its plans to take over the planet's core to kill all life in Copper 9, while also dragging Uzi and N with it to devour them. However, Uzi was able cut the arms grabbing N before giving him the keys to the landing pod that J had accidentaly lost and throwing him out of the lab so he could escape. Uzi then fell into the hole, although instead she ended up outside of the planet's orbit rather than at its core.
N would go to the landing pod and use it to rescue Uzi from space, which annoys Uzi as he accidentaly took her away when she was talking to her mother. The two would then hug each other, only to then be interupted by the Solver, who, using one of her magma tentacles after taking control of the planet's core, destroys the ship. N and Uzi then begin to fall into the planet's orbit, and after hugging each other and admiting they're love for one another, they decide to work together to stop the Solver.
N then helps Uzi in launching a black hole into the planet's core to destroy the Solver, only for it to grab it and go confront the duo. Seeing N is no longer willing to listen to it after so many times it had manipulated him, the Solver decides to attack Uzi, attempting to rip her core from her body, only to be stopped by N. However, the Solver would then begin to rip N apart, and only being able to survive because Uzi broke the floor the were in which allows the two to escape and hide in one of the classrooms in Uzi's school.
The Solver would go look for them, and while they were hiding, N begins having a panic attack due to remembering how the Solver used to rip him and the other Worker Drones in the Elliott mansion apart to turn them into its Disassembly Drones, but ends up getting comforted by Uzi. After the Solver seemingly left, V, who had actually survived the sentinels and escape the lab, appeared and seeing a hologram of N made by the Solver, apologizes to "him" for keeping secrets from N for so long.
Uzi believed that V was fake and was a trap made by the Solver, but N was too worried about V to the point he decided to warn her, leading to the Solver finding out where he was hiding and ripping his core from his body. It would then attack V, and after knocking her on the ground with the help of J, it tries to devour N's core, only for him to be saved by Khan, allowing N to return to his body. The Solver would then attack N and V, but they end up being saved by Uzi.
She would then fight the Solver and J, using both her railgun and a pickaxe which were given respectively by Thad and her mother. However, in the middle of their fight, the Solver gets stabbed by Uzi with the pickaxe and decides to use a hologram of N to trick Uzi into letting her guard long enough so J could kill her. She ends up failing, though, as N and V protect Uzi, and cause J to get thrown out of the part of the planet they were in.
The trio would then fight against the Solver, and at the end of their fight, the Solver would throw N and V out of its way to focus solely on Uzi. However, Uzi ends up grabbing the Solver's chest and removing Cyn's core, with her then creating a black hole that open a hole through the planet and brings sunlight on the other side of the planet where they were, which leads to the sunlight hitting Cyn's core which melts and turns into a black hole that consumes both Solver and Uzi. There, a small black hole appears which the Solver tries to consume, but Uzi ends up eating it to stop it, leading to the large black hole disappearing and the Solver melting into nothing.
The parts of the planet that were taken off by the Solver then fall back into the planet, and after this, N and V go looking for Uzi. They would find her, and then see that Uzi now has her eyes with two colors, those being her usual purple and yellow from the Solver. Both are worried, but the worry ends up disappearing when Uzi calls herself a "damaged OC", leading to them seeing that she was fine.
Sometime after this, Uzi would make a presentation to her class about what had happened, with everyone, including N and V, taking part in it, and while V is annoyed by Uzi, N is supportive and applauds her once the presentation is over. It's also revealed that N had learned how to draw after reading a manual of how to draw manga. It's shown in the final episodes N credits that Uzi and N had grown to spend more time together, playing cards with her alongside her father and friends, spending time watching videos and games in her room, and even dancing in the air. N would also go to the memorial for Doll made by Lizzy, with her expressing that she didn't deserve her fate and that the one who should have suffered was one of the classmates named Rachell, with N showing annoyance at something related to it, although not confirmed what exactly.
Admirable Standards
I want to get into this one first since it's easier to explain. However, this won't be like Uzi or the Solver like I did prior who are so obviously admirable and heinous enough respectively that I felt no need to explain much beyond their actions. While N does pass the admirable standards in my opinion, there's some discussion about wheter or not he is admirable enough since he isn't the most admirable character in the show. To start, I'm going to list the more notable characters in the show and what they do:
- Uzi herself started the show convincing N to change for the better by seeing how wrong he was with the murdering of Worker Drones, saved her colony twice from J and V and the Absolute Solver respectively, freed N and V from the Solver's control, was willing to give her life to save N, and ended up defeating the Solver, preventing it from wiping out Copper 9 and the universe, with it being implied by the end that she is keeping the Solver inside of her body to prevent it from hurting anyone else.
- V spent her entire time as a Disassembly Drone following the Solver's orders to protect N from it, to the point of distancing herself to do so. After joining Uzi's side, she saves Lizzy from a posessed Uzi, nearly gives her life to save N and Uzi, saves Lizzy, Khan and Thad from J and later Uzi as well. She also helps Uzi alongside N in defeating the Solver.
- Nori spent years trying to find a way to stop the Solver, convinced Khan to build the doors on the outposts to protect the Worker Drones from the Disassembly Drones, saved N from it, helped in freeing Uzi from the Solver's posession, and played a massive role in helping Uzi defeat the Solver by telling her how to defeat it, motivating her into fighting it and stopping it from brainwashing her, and giving her a pickaxe which helped her a lot in her fight with the Solver.
- As mentioned above, Khan built the doors for the outpost that protected his kind from Worker Drones for years, and after seeing how awful of a father he was to Uzi, he decides to help in protecting the planet, bringing a railgun that was useful in helping fight the Solver, as well as personally saving N from it.
- Lastly, Thad was willing to risk his life to protect his friends and colony from the Disassembly Drones, nearly dying by doing so, informed Uzi about the disappearances in the outpost which lead them to the Solver and stopping it from killing anyone else, and giving Uzi her railgun in the final fight against the Solver which helped in defeating it.
The admirable standards are not low since the universe ends up being saved in the finale and multiple characters help in it. Despite this, I still confortably believe N stands out among them. He not only played an equally big role in saving the colony from J and V by stopping the latter, was the one who defeated the Solver when it posessed J's body which saved everyone in the outpost, saves Uzi multiple times from Doll, is shown to have once taken punishment for the Solver's actions to protect it when it was "Cyn" and he had no idea about its intentions, and helped in saving the universe from the Solver by fighting it with Uzi and V.
This makes N pass considering his role in saving the universe and while he wasn't the one who directly stopped it, his role in helping Uzi is, personally, more than enough for him to stand out alongside all his other heroic acts throught the series.
Corrupting Factors
I said it before when I proposed the Solver almost two weeks ago but it and N are similar despite them being the opposite morality-wise in that both have many things to talk about them that could have very well stopped them from qualifying if things were different. Because of that, I, similar to what I did to the Solver, will divide specific noteworthy aspects of this talk into their own as they each need some discussion.
Shooting at Beau
I'm starting with this one since this one was the one I've seen most bringing up when talking about wheter or not N qualified here, and I won't deny that I had some doubts too in the past. Basic summary for those who don't watch the series, after getting into Copper 9's underground labs, "Tessa" (who was actually the Solver in disguise but they didn't know it at the time) was caught and dragged a way by a weird tentacle thing, which leads to Uzi, N and V going after it to save her. While trying to go after her, they find themselves in the begining of a coridor, where they see a robot baby, filled with oil (which is what Worker Drones and Disassembly Drones bleed), laughing on the ground, which was obviously fake due to them using a video for the laugh.
They realize it was a trap and ask if they should shoot the baby imediatly, with N saying "that's not soon enough" and begining to shoot. The baby, who had robotic legs, escapes and then it's shown to have been a trap made by them and its Worker Drone accomplice, Alice. The baby is Beau. So with that exaplined I'll try to explain why I personally don't think it's disqualifying for N's status.
First, the scene was obviously a trap, it was clear that Beau was faking his laughter and not only that they were filled with oil. N began to shoot at Beau because the entire trio understood that going into the baby was going to get them caught in a trap, and as shown by what happened next, they were completely correct in that suspition.
Second, right after this when they were captured by Alice and Beau, despite what the latter did, N is nothing but friendly towards them. He gives them advice in dissecting him, and Beau appreatiated this so much that he became amicable towards N in return. This moment shows that despite what both did, they have no issues with each other besides being on opposite sides.
Third, it is shown time and time again that even though he is a baby, Beau is aware of what they're doing, they know they're tricking people, dissecting them alive, and killing them. Beau knew that they are going to mutilate and murder drones whose sole act was just entering the underground labs and they had no way of knowing their intentions. To further that claim, Beau ends up dying saving V and Uzi, which shows that they could have very well have changed and become a better drone prior, but actively chose to help Alice in its killings.
Overall, not only is it shown that N only tried to kill Beau because they were obviously leading the trio into a trap, but outside of that, N is nothing but kind towards Beau. It's clear that the only thing that motivated him into shooting Beau was because they were going to put his friends and himself in danger, and Beau knew full well it was doing just that, so I don't feel it's an issue with all that stacked up.
His time working for the Solver as a Disassembly Drone
This was something that has been brought up repeatedly and I personally never saw the issue with this post-episode 3. However, I will bring it up to explain. N, like all the current Disassembly Drones, was a regular Worker Drone that was turned into a weapon by the Solver. Under that time, N took part in massacring all life on Earth, and later presumably other exo-planets.
I will explain this part first before going to the stuff he did in Copper 9. N did this because the Solver erased all his past memories and made him solely into a machine of mass destruction and death, and after this, he lost his memories of these events erased so the Solver would make him believe he was a Disassembly Drone working for JCJenson. It's shown that unlike V and J, N had his memories repeatedly wiped to the point he didn't even know who he was, who he was working for, and why. When he found out about it in the present, he is horrified about what he did.
This shows that the Solver often had to erase his past memories and alter them to make sure N would follow its orders and kill for it. This makes N somewhat of an unwilling accomplice to the Solver as he never willingly worked with the Solver truly. V and J also got turned into Disassembly Drones against their will but went along with it to protect herself and N and self-preservation respectively, and unlike the two, N shows horror and remorse over the things he did.
Now in the present, he got his memories wiped and was made to believe he was a Disassembly Drones sent by JCJenson to wipe out all Worker Drones there. N killed hundreds of drones, and planned on keeping until all of them in Copper 9 were dead. Despite this, N was shown to be the first to have doubts on what they were doing, reflect on what he did, and actually try to work with the Worker Drones when he saw that they weren't so different.
Since he questioned his actions and goals and nearly got killed by J, N has shown to have become a much better individual, and is shown to regret his past actions, and this isn't just limited to the "I'm sorry" card he gave to the one Worker Drone in the outpost's exit door, there are multiple times where he is shown to have grown and shown remorse for his actions, with the main one being in the pilot:
“ | Uzi: Nah-uh. No bonding thing. You just killed a bunch of people, idiot. N: That's super fair. Uh, I screwed up. |
„ |
“ | We can't interact with the workers anymore, V. Were too dangerous. | „ |
It's also shown that N is now against doing morally questionable things, as he questions Uzi for her plan to wipe out humanity, refuses to allow V to escape and kill any Worker Drones, goes to stop her when she breaks out, calls V out for killing a Worker Drone for little to no reason, saves Rebecca, goes into the outpost with Uzi to stop the Solver from killing any Worker Drones, and is overall shown to have now gotten along with them to the point that he spends time with several Worker Drones in his pass time.
Overall, N may have not started out the best after becoming a Disassembly Drone, but he returned into being as kind as he was in his time when he was a regular Worker Drone, and unlike V, he refuses to do any morally dubious things and shows remourse for his past actions.
Him Decapitating "Tessa"
So, when "Tessa", who was actually the Solver in disguise, tries to kill Uzi, N points a sword at Tessa's neck and asks her if she knew about the crucifix patch or not, does letting him no wheter or not he was lying. Tessa refused to answer, and tries to ask N why she keeps him around. Before she could finish though, N cut off her head.
Despite this, N is shown to be horrified by what he had done right after and was in shock, which makes it clear that he didn't want it to end that way and only did it because he knew she would try to manipulate him again. Remember, for the previous two episode, "Tessa" had been playing with N's emotions and trying to manipulate him into killing Uzi, and at that very moment, she showed that she knew that Uzi could have been saved and have the Solver removed from it, but chose instead to have N believe killing her was the only way to stop the Solver.
N did what he did because she would try to manipulate him again, and even after everything she did, he still was horrified at having to do it. If the shocked reaction of N was removed, I could probably see the issue, but without that I think N is fine.
Other moments of potential lethality
There are a few more moments to bring up to ask wheter or not N is lethal. While he is shown to not only kill his enemies, as shown with V, he has two more moments I feel I needed to explain. The first is when the Solver as a core tries to attack him and Uzi, and N repeatedly stings it with his tail, turning it into nothing but a black hole which then leaves. I am personally willing to shalk that up as self-defense as it was trying to kill him and Uzi, but that's just me personally.
His other attempts to kill the Solver are also justified as the Solver is trying to destroy the universe and wouldn't stop, and unlike Uzi he is never shown enjoying trying to kill it, so I don't see any real issue with it. Outside of that, I can't think of any other moments where N showed any questionable lethality, so that is all unless someone brings up another moment that I didn't see on rewatch.
Any other potential issues?
Outside of his past and maybe lethality, N doesn't really have any other issues, but I'll try to bring up some things just in case. The first is that N sometimes calls out V on her behaviour. For example, he gets angry when V tries to kill Uzi without explaining why, and saying she "kind of sucks" when she mocks her murder of Doll's parents by saying that "they didn't even taste that good".
I feel there's no need to explain that this is pretty understandable, V is trying to kill someone who did nothing wrong for a reason she refuses to say, and is laughing at the misery of someone that she caused without showing any remorse. A similar moment of potential coldness is when he mentions Uzi as one of the people they needed to save when "Tessa" only mentioned V, which considering her not even bringing up Uzi like she didn't matter, feels pretty justified.
Another moment that I wnated to bring up is at the end credits of the final episode, where Lizzy makes a memorial for Doll, says she didn't deserve her death, and says that a classmate named Rachell should have been the one to have died and calls her evil. N, like everyone else there with the exception of Thad, expresses annoyance, but due to being ambiguous what exactly N and everyone else is annoyed at, I don't personally think that this is an issue.
After V was seemingly killed by Disassembly Drones, N started blowing up the debris from the fall of the elevator to get to her, even telling Uzi to use her Solver to help him. Any potential issue from this is imideatly subverted when he saw Uzi was nearly hit by the debris he threw away, which lead to him apologizing. I had a user also say that N lacked much empathy, but there are no real scenes where that is the case. Even in episode 4 where lack of reaction towards death was a joke there, N was shown calling out V for killing a Worker Drone, we don't see his reaction to one of the Worker Drones accidentaly killing another or V threatening them, so it doesn't feel like there is evidence that N was apathetic about it, and saves Rebecca from falling into a frozen lake. So, really don't see where the lack of empathy point is coming from.
Also, while there are heads of Worker Drones near him in two scenes in the credits, there is nothing that indicates that he killed the Worker Drones, and is just solely eating the corpses' heads for their oil, as the Disassembly Drones and Uzi need oil to survive and avoid overheating. Outside of that, none, there are no issues with N in my mind outside of these. He is a kind and selfless drone who is treated as the moral and kindness of the trio between V, who is sadistic, ruthless and apathetic, and Uzi, who, while not as bad as V, can be rude, abrassive, and agressive.
Final Verdict?
I think N qualifies, although I can understand the worries anyone may feel. I want to thank anyone for reading this as this is the biggest proposal I have ever made, being the first to pass 40,000 bytes, much less 56,000 bytes. I new accomplishment from me, and while wheter or not he counts is up to all of you, I am glad to have put as much effort into this as I could, and if I missed something, please inform me.
