Rejected
Captain Rex

This is for Captain Rex from The Clone Wars. I have permission from Emeraldblade95 to make this as it was noticed that some of the votes on his last removal proposal four years ago gave incorrect information.

The work?

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is an animated series showing the period of time between Episodes II and III, in which Anakin and Obi-Wan took part in numerous battles of the Clone Wars along with Anakin’s Padawan Ahsoka Tano.

Who is he?

Captain Rex is a clone commander who heads the 501st and serves under Anakin Skywalker, taking part in many decisive battles of the war, while also starting to question the war after seeing the corrupting effect it’s having on the Jedi. He later returns in the Rebels series where he’s revealed to have removed his inhibitor chip and assists a band of Rebels against the Empire.

Why doesn’t he count?

He has a lethal moment in the Season 4 episode “Escape from Kadavo” when he and Obi-Wan are enslaved by Keeper Agruss. When Jedi reinforcements arrive, Agruss rigs the facility to drop the slaves to their deaths, but Anakin and Ahsoka arrive and are able to save them. While this is happening Obi-Wan and Rex break free from their restraints, take down the slavers and disarm Agruss. Obi-Wan then holds his lightsaber on him, seemingly prepared to kill him in revenge, but Agruss points out that Obi-Wan is a Jedi and his code prohibits him from killing an unarmed man. However Obi-Wan gets around this by tacitly giving Rex the go-ahead to kill him and Rex gladly impales Agruss with an electrostaff, telling him “I’m no Jedi.”

While Agruss had this coming since he’s a PE villain and a brutal slaver, it’s still too lethal as Rex straight-up executed him when he was defenseless, and unlike with Pong Krell there wasn’t any apparent danger in taking Agruss into custody rather than killing him. This was brought up on Rex’s last removal proposal but several people voted to keep him by saying killing Agruss was necessary to free the slaves, but this is incorrect as Anakin and Ahsoka were already rescuing the slaves and Agruss was not in a position to stop this as he was in a different part of the facility and Obi-Wan and Rex had already taken down his men and overpowered him, so it’s clear Rex killing him was out of revenge for his crimes and Rex doesn’t seem conflicted about it, and even boasts that he’s not bound by the Jedi code when he does it.

Verdict?

I’d say cut him.
