Avatar Aang

Alright, my third PG proposal is for a character that I'm surprised hasn't already been proposed. This is for Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

What's the Work?[]

Avatar: The Last Airbender is animated series about Aang, the titular Avatar, as he and his friends go up against the Fire Nation, one of the four elemental nations and a tyrannical faction bent on world domination.

The Legend of Korra is a sequel series set 70 years later, and centers on the new Avatar, Korra, as she faces threats from various other benders.

I should probably explain the concept of bending. So basically, some people in this universe are born with the ability to control a certain element, either water, earth, fire, or air. However, the Avatar can bend all four elements, making them extremely powerful.

Who Is He/What Has He Done?[]

Aang is an airbender, the last of his kind after they were all wiped out by the Fire Nation. He is also the aforementioned Avatar during the events of series ATLA. He goes on a lengthy adventure with his friends, Katara, Sokka, Toph, and eventually, his former enemy, Zuko, collectively known as Team Avatar, to try to master his abilities in order to defeat Zuko's father, the evil Fire Lord Ozai.

Eventually, despite numerous setbacks, Aang accomplishes this goal, and brings peace to four nations.

Corrupting Factors[]

He was initially fearful of his position as the Avatar, which led to him freezing himself for the next 100 years as the Fire Nation took power. Except he didn't do it on purpose. He was just scared, as any kid would be, and instinctively froze himself in the Avatar State in order to save his and Appa's lives after they fell into the water.

So, overall, no corrupting factors.

Admirable Standard[]

Well, he did save all four nations from tyranny when he bested Ozai in the final episode (at the height of the Fire Lord's power, no less), thus doing what Avatar Roku failed to do, while also allowing for someone much less insane (Zuko), to lead the Fire Nation.

It's also worth noting that in the final episode, despite evrerything he's done and all the pain he's caused, Aang refuses to kill Ozai, instead enacting what he considered to be a just punishment, taking away his firebending.

Overall, the most heroic character in the series.

Final Verdict[]

Definite yes.
