Hello everyone! Hope y'all are doing well! I'm here today to make a removal proposal for Mew from Pokémon. Let's get started!

WHAT IS POKÉMON? WHAT'S THE WORK?[]

Pokémon is a series of Japanese Role Playing video games that started with Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue released in 1996. The games centered on a young child beginning their journey to complete an encyclopedia for Pokémon known as the Pokédex by catching every Pokémon in the Kanto region, where the games take place, and to defeat all 8 powerful trainers known as Gym Leaders to obtain their badges so they can challenge the Elite 4 and defeat them to become the champion of Kanto. The games went on to become a media franchise that spawned an anime series, a manga series, and a trading card game. The Pokémon series has went on to become the highest grossing media franchise of all time.

WHO IS MEW? WHAT HAVE THEY DONE?[]

Mew is the 151st Pokémon and rarest Pokémon in the Kanto region. In the video games, Mew was only available for players during special distribution events and can't be found or caught during normal gameplay. Mew is a very minor character in the video games and has a much bigger role in the anime where they are a prominent character in Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back. In the movie, Mew fights with Mewtwo, who wanted to gather powerful Pokémon from trainers he gathered to New Island and make clones out of them. Mew and Mewtwo's fight became very extreme, to the point where Ash sacrificed himself by jumping in the way of their powerful blasts to stop the fight, turning him to stone. The tears of all the Pokémon turned him back to normal and Mew and Mewtwo left the island, but not before Mewtwo wiped everyone who was on the island's memories.

REASONS MEW COULD QUALIFY?[]

Mew doesn't really have corrupting factors and was shown to be brave and noble to fight against Mewtwo to protect everyone who was on the island. Mew also presumably isn't a species so they stand out in that sense.

REASONS MEW DOESN'T QUALIFY?[]

Ok so in the games Mew does quite literally nothing. Mew is just another Pokémon that has no role in the story whatsoever. And in the anime Mew just doesn't really do enough to qualify. In the first movie sure Mew protected the people on the island and isn't owned by a trainer so it was doing as it pleased, but protecting people is very standard in the anime. There are countless one-shot heroes from the anime that protect people and Pokémon. While Mew only has any sort of role in 2 movies and doesn't really do much. Speaking of the second movie, while I don't remember Lucario and the Mystery of Mew that well, I don't remember Mew having any major role in that movie either. And in that movie, Mew still doesn't stand out when compared to the characters from the anime and even Lucario.

FINAL VERDICT?[]

Long story short, Mew doesn't qualify as pure good because they don't really do much and don't have a major enough role. They also fail the admirable standard compared to other characters like Ash, May, Dawn, ect. who do much more than Mew. It's basically impossible for Mew to qualify because they just don't have as much screen-time or heroic acts as the main characters. But I'm interested in everyone else's opinions down below because I could see this one going either way. As always, thanks for reading and have a great day!
