The Utroms, also known as the T.C.R.I. Aliens, are an alien species that appear in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book series by Mirage Comics. They originated from the Utrom Homeworld. A group of Utroms, crashed on Earth 20 years ago when searching for life there. They are also indirectly responsible for the mutation of the Turtles and Splinter, due to an accident.
Role[]
20 years ago, an Utrom ship was searching for life on Earth. Unfortunately, the ship crashed on Earth due to an accident, and was damaged beyond repair. The Utroms then salvaged the ship's technology.
Afterwards, the Utroms operate through T.C.R.I. (Techo Cosmic Research Institute). Though the company's official business is never revealed, unofficially it serves as a place to hide their advanced technology, such as the Transmat (a teleporter that can reach across the galaxy) and the Oracle Pod (a virtual reality chamber that replays historical records). T.C.R.I. is also responsible for the mutagen that transformed the Turtles, Splinter, and Leatherhead which was the fuel for their Transmat.
Unable to repair their ship, the Utroms developed human-shaped exosuits to blend in humanity peacefully while trying to contact their homeworld time to time again. When Splinter is injured, the Utroms save and nurse him back to health. However, due to a misunderstanding that they kidnapped him, the Turtles invade the T.C.R.I. building and accidentally get themselves transported to other worlds via the Transmat. After multiple incidents, they return with two Triceratons, who are subsequently transported back to their homeworld. The Utroms then explain everything to the Turtles and then return home just before the building explodes.
Utroms would eventually return to Earth to properly open official relations with humanity and with other alien cultures.
