“ | Once this was a fine city. Gleaming beacon of the Emperor's Light, a center of industry. Now look at it. Commissar, I would like to see this city built up again. I would like to see towers and spires of gleaming white. I would like to see our men on parade routes, not tours of duty. I would like to see every city in this planet, every colony in this besotted, miserable system turned to the service and industry of the Imperiumn, in the Emperor's name. | „ |

“ | All I've fought for... all my work! Crushed! All the good men who gave their lives for this cursed, this blasted system... Though my army lies in ruins today... I have not done fighting. And I will remember who my enemies are... | „ |
~ Vance Stubbs upon facing defeat |
Vance Stubbs, is a recurring character in the Warhammer 40K franchise. He serves as one of the playable characters in the 2009 video game Warhammer 40: Dawn of War Soulstorm. He is a General in the Astra Militarum ordered to retake the Kaurava System for the Imperium of Man with the help of the 252nd Kaurava Conservator Regiment.
General Vance Stubbs of the Astra Militarum, a high-ranking member of the Imperial General Staff, found himself in charge of all Astra Militarum forces within the Kaurava System. His assignment had barely begun when a Warp Storm materialized on Kaurava IV, annihilating the 253rd Kauravan Regiment. Simultaneously, the 252nd Kauravan Regiment suffered heavy losses in surprise attacks launched by the Alpha Legion Chaos Space Marines.
The battle against the T'au Empire cost the regiment dearly, including the life of its former commander, leaving General Stubbs in a dire situation. He now commanded barely a quarter of the Imperial Guard troops originally deployed to the star system. Driven by the ambition to restore the Kaurava System to the Imperium, Stubbs launched a campaign with the 252nd Kauravan Conservator Regiment against its multitude of invaders. However, the situation deteriorated rapidly with the unexpected arrival of the Blood Ravens Space Marines and the Sisters of Battle of the Order of the Sacred Rose.
The Blood Ravens, deploying five full companies under Force Commander Indrick Boreale, arrived with a hidden agenda: to investigate a promising lead related to their Chapter's mysterious origins, desiring to eliminate any potential witnesses. Meanwhile, the Order of the Sacred Rose harbored deep suspicions, believing the Imperial Guard garrison had been tainted by the Warp Storm from the beginning, or even responsible for its manifestation. General Stubbs's defiant refusal to yield to Inquisitorial reconditioning ignited open conflict. He found himself battling not only the Xenos and Chaos forces vying for control of Kaurava, but also his supposed allies from within the Imperium.
