Biography[]
Background[]
Vasquez was born before the twenty-first century, being presumably raised in the mid-twentieth century to a family of Latino heritage. Once he reached the right age, Vasquez joined the United States Marine Corps and managed to obtain the rank of lieutenant. He became a distinguished soldier during the war in the Middle East, and was later joined the 1st Force Reconnaissance Company, also known as 1st Force Recon.
Call of Duty 4[]
After Khaled Al-Asad commits a coup d'état and kills the Saudi Arabian president, Yasir Al-Fulani, 1st Force Recon are tasked with apprehending the terrorist. Vasquez worked with his 1st Force Recon squad, notably Staff Sergeant Griggs, Private Massey, and Sergeant Paul Jackson in fighting against OpFor to reach Al-Asad. During the operation, Vasquez and his squad dealt with heavy opposing forces, and learned that Al-Asad was broadcasting a speech at an unnamed tv station. The squad suspected as Khaled would be there, but the unit found the station empty as Al-Asad's broadcast was played on loop. The mission was a complete failure despite heavy causalities of OpFor, as Al-Asad managed to escape and was presumably hiding in the presidential palace.
Lieutenant Vasquez was then tasked by command to protect War Pig, an Abrams tank stranded in the outskirts with OpFor forces in the area. The team was ambushed by opposing forces, but Vasquez ordered his men to clear the building's gunners and to clear enemy tanks to reach Alpha Company. Vasquez and his squad successfully reached War Pig, and defended the position while Sergeant Jackson destroyed a nearby ZPU. Once Jackson destroyed it, air support under Lieutenant Volker rolled came to clear out the remaining OpFor, and Vasquez decided to stay with War Pig until it could be brought back. Vasquez then took leadership of Alpha Six to escort War Pig away from the city, and managed to do so while dealing with heavy opposing forces.
Once War Pig was secured, Vasquez and his squad were picked up by Sea Knight, and were ordered by command to continue their pursuit of Al-Asad. During the operation, 1st Force Recon were assigned to capture Khaled in Capital City, but learned that a reconnaissance team was under fire. Vasquez and his squad rescued the team while Sergeant Jackson provided support on Outlaw-Two-Five, and later Captain Pelayo. However, the Marines were informed by command that there was a nuclear threat in the city after SEAL Team 6 discovered it. The squad decided to extract from the area, but Vasquez ordered the pilot that they needed to save Captain "Deadly" Pelayo, who was shot down by a enemy. After having Sergeant Jackson rescue Captain Pelayo from her downed plane, the squad pulled back into Sea Knight to escape from the city, but failed as the nuclear bomb went off.
The blast wave of the bomb traveled across the city, hitting Sea Knight and other helicopters, causing it go down before Vasquez told his teammates to hold on. Vasquez died from the helicopter crash, but Sergeant Jackson survived the impact before dying from his injuries upon seeing the aftermath of the detonation. In the 2016 remastered version, Vasquez is seen to have survived the crash, but immediately collapsed and died from his injuries when seeing Jackson.
Legacy[]
Lieutenant Vasquez was among the thirty-thousands American soldiers killed by the nuclear bomb, which caused 1st Force Recon's commanding officer, General Shepherd to start World War III. Vasquez and his unit were avenged by S.A.S. Captain John Price, who captured and killed Al-Asad for his actions. In Modern Warfare 2, Vasquez and 1st Force Recon are indirectly mentioned by General Shepherd in the mission "Endgame". In Modern Warfare 3, it's revealed that the Russian Ultranationalist, Vladimir Makarov, ordered Al-Asad to detonate the bomb, which resulted in Vasquez's death. Captain Price would also enact revenge on Makarov, killing him after the end of the Third World War.
