The Vault 76 Overseer is, per her title, the Overseer assigned to Vault 76 in Appalachia by Vault-Tec to overlook the people who take refuge in the Vault when the Great War/World War III occurs in 2077.

History[]

After the Vault is sealed, the Overseer watches over her Vault family for 25 years before the vault is reopened in 2102 on Reclamation Day to begin recolonizing Appalachia to rebuild America.

However, having left the Vault earlier than the residents, the Overseer had another mission, direct from Vault-Tec: She was to secure three, still-active, nuclear I.C.B.M. silos that survived the Great War, located in Appalachia: Site Alpha, Site Bravo, and Site Charlie, even if meant going against any surviving USAF personnel still alive in the silos. Making her way first from Vault 76 to the nearby crossroads, the Overseer set up her Construction and Assembly Mobile Platform, or C.A.M.P., on the small hill above the intersection, leaving it there for her Vault family to use while she moved onwards into the town of Flatwoods. Discovering that Flatwoods was home to a group known as The Responders, a group of emergency personnel, like police, firefighters, and EMS, who were helping survivors of the Great War with rebuilding in the ashes of nuclear annihilation, she had her first encounter with the Scorched Plague as she encountered a Scorched and looked over its appearance, its various phrases it said as it attacked her, such as "We are one", and how it was hostile to anything that wasn't like it. Concerned about how it came to be, the Overseer became a Responder volunteer and made her way north to Morgantown, stopping by her old home in Sutton along the way as she left personal journal holotapes behind regarding her life before the Great War. Reaching Morgantown and the airport there that served as the Responders' main base, she soon had her first encounter with the Scorchbeasts, the source of the Scorched Plague. Learning that the Responders had been working on a vaccine for the Scorched Plague, the Overseer made her way down to Charleston, the ruined capital of West Virginia, and the AVR Medical Center to look further into the vaccine. After learning of the vaccine, the Overseer then made her way to the Charleston Fire Department to register as a member of the Responders' elite, anti-Scorched unit, the Firebreathers. Once a Firebreather, she then made her way to the Top of the World in the Savage Divide, meeting with Rose, the Miss Nanny serving as the leader of the Raiders, or what was left of them, who only agreed to help the Overseer if she helped Rose, which gritted on the Overseer's nerves.

From there, the Overseer then traveled into The Mire to investigate the bunkers of the Free States, secessionists who turned their backs on the United States to try and survive on their own once they knew the USA was doomed to nuclear annihilation. After gathering what she could from the Free States, the Overseer then looked into the local chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel, checking out their old bases in Camp Venture and the former Allegheny Asylum, now named Fort Defiance, on the edges of the Cranberry Bog, to finally learn of what led to the Responders, Raiders, Free States, and the Brotherhood being wiped out by the Scorchbeasts: Mistrust. None of the factions had been able to, nor willing to, trust each other enough to join forces as a unified front against the Scorched Plague, and that's what led to their destruction.

Nevertheless, the Overseer continues her journey, traveling to the Ash Heap to discover what had become of her ex-fiancé Evan, who she had to leave outside to face the nuclear war alone when she was told Evan was refused from being granted clemency and a marital exemption into Vault 76 by Vault-Tec, and if she wanted Evan to go with her, she would have to transfer to Vault 101 in Washington, D.C. instead. Choosing Vault 76 and Appalachia over Evan, when she returned to see if he survived in the mines on Mount Blair due to how deep he could have been underground when the nukes fell, she found that Evan had, tragically, fallen victim to the Scorched Plague and become a Scorched, forever linked to the Scorchbeast Queen's hive mind. Unable to give him a merciful death, the Overseer locked him away and asked that her Vault family do it instead, using Evan's fate to steel her resolve to secure the silos and put an end to the Scorched Plague for good.

Continuing into Grafton in the Toxic Valley, the Overseer soon gets an idea on how to get into the silos after encountering the Grafton Mayor A.I., and heads to Camp McClintock to enlist in the United States Army. After graduating as a Private, the Overseer reached a dead end when trying to enter the silos: The silos were locked down so only officers of the rank of General were permitted into the silos. Unable to gain access to the Whitespring Bunker and meet with MODUS to complete the automated promotion system to attain the rank of General and enter the silos herself, the Overseer believed her mission was a failure, leaving it up to her Vault family to finish what she started, get into the silos, stop the Scorched Plague themselves, and save their country.

However, near the Mountain Bed & Breakfast north of Site Charlie, the Overseer was attacked by a Mole Miner. Out of supplies and stimpaks to recover, the Overseer felt that this might be it for her, and left one final log holotape outside the building in case she doesn't make it.

However, one year later, in 2103, the Overseer survived her Mole Miner attack, and surprised to find that people were returning to Appalachia, she returned to Sutton to set up her new home there, sending out a broadcast to her Vault family to find her there. Upon reuniting with the Vault 76 residents, she takes them downstairs to introduce them to her Mr. Handy assistant Davenport, and then asks about if they took care of the vaccine. Her concern is justified, if the Settlers and Raiders are not treated with the vaccine, it could be the events before Vault 76 opened with the Responders, original Raiders, Free States, and Brotherhood all over again as the Settlers and Raiders would become more of the Scorchbeast Queen's minions.

After the residents convince the leaders of the two factions, Paige for the Settlers and Meg Groberg for the Raiders, to have their groups vaccinated, the Overseer helps them mass-produce the vaccine at the defunct Kanawha Nuka-Cola Plant to distribute to the Raiders and Settlers. With that done, the Overseer then asks the residents to come with her back to her alma mater, Vault-Tec University (VTU), in Morgantown. Once there, the Protectron that now runs the college, Professor-bot, refuses to let the Overseer back into the Restricted Wing of the college as her access has been revoked. However, it makes a compromise: If the Vault 76 residents complete the Overseer's Exam in the Simulation Vault and pass, they will technically graduate from VTU and be granted access to the Restricted Wing. Once the residents complete the exam, the Professor-bot keeps its word and lets them into the Restricted Wing. Fighting past the surviving robot campus police forces of the college, the Overseer and residents learn that Vault 79 holds the United States entire gold bullion reserve from Fort Knox in the event of nuclear war. Realizing the gold could be used to restart the economy and help to rebuild America, the Overseer has the residents travel to Foundation and The Crater to see about getting the Settlers or Raiders in on raiding the vault for the gold.

Some time later, the Overseer learns that the raid was a success, and after voicing her concerns or satisfaction regarding the side taken for the raid, she thanks the residents for all their help with getting Appalachia, and maybe even America, on the road to recovery from the Great War.
