Shoot! Camila still has the car keys!
~ Vee at the end, "Thanks to Them"
Vee: My kind went extinct a long time ago, but we were brought back... They wanted to know how we drained magic...?
Luz Noceda: I met a basilisk once. She hurt a lot of people.
Vee: For many of us, all we knew how to do was feed. Some of us escaped, but I knew it was only a matter of time before he caught us again... That's when I saw and, and realised... there might be a way out of this... I didn't mean to keep playing this role, but Camilla was nice to me. I resent you for running away, but I'm also thankful that you did. I don't know, it's... confusing...
~ Vee explaining her background to Luz Noceda.

Vee or Number 5 is a major protagonist in the Disney Channel animated series The Owl House.

She serves as the overarching protagonist of "Keeping up A-fear-ances", the deuteragonist of "Yesterday's Lie", a cameo character in both "Reaching Out" and "King's Tide", one of the three tritagonists (alongside Gus Porter and Willow Park) of "Thanks to Them", and a minor character in the series finale "Watching and Dreaming".

She is a basilisk from the Boiling Isles who is hiding in the Human Realm under Camila Noceda's care after escaping the grasp of her creator Emperor Belos. She initially disguised herself by impersonating Camila's daughter Luz, but eventually dropped it after Luz found out about her and later returned to Earth.

She is voiced by Michaela Dietz, who also voices Amethyst in Steven Universe and Darryl McGee in The Ghost and Molly McGee and Riff from Barney & Friends. Under the disguise of Luz, she is voiced by Sarah-Nicole Robles.

Appearance[]

As a basilisk, Vee is a snake-like being colored green with blue hair. She has blue eyes with black irises and yellow pupils, and her tail has a ring attached to her fin. Her eyelids also close sideways instead of downwards.

When disguised as Luz Noceda, she mainly looks the same as her, but most of her basilisk attributes, such as her eyes, hair and white spots, will show at times.

After Luz returned home, Vee created a new human form to separate herself from Luz. Her hair is now pale green with blue tips resembling her skin and fins and her skin is now lighter than Luz and Camila's. She now wears a orange and yellow striped sweater with a pumpkin on it, blue pants with tears in the legs, and brown boots. She also retains her basilisk ears which blend in with her hair and the sclera of her eyes is now white.

Four years after the events of the series, Vee's hair in her human form has grown by a large amount and now reaches her midriff. She wears a red shirt depicting the Earth and Titan's Skull, a black jacket and grey jeans. In her basilisk form her hair is also longer (neck-length) and she has a ring nose piercing whilst having removed the ring tag on her tail fin.

History[]

Vee explains that she was one of many basilisks created and tested by the Emperor's Coven, who studied their magic-draining abilities. She and a few others escaped from the coven, with her coming across Luz Noceda and Eda Clawthorne in the Bonesborough market. She took this opportunity to sneak into the Portal and arrive in the Human Realm, where she pretended to be Luz after meeting Camila Noceda and went to Reality-Check Camp in her place, even befriending the teens there.

Vee meets Luz for the first time in "Yesterday's Lie", where she contacts her via the In-Between Realm. When Vee tries to run away to the shack where the Portal leads, she is caught by one of Jacob Hopkins' traps, forcing her to reveal her true form. When Luz helps to free her, she hatches a plan for Vee to continue masquerading as her while she continues to find a way to the Human Realm

However, Vee can only transform via magic and had used up her remaining supply, forcing her to take on a half-disguised form as she searches for more magic. She looks for Eda Clawthorne's cards to gain more magic in the Gravesfield Historical Society, only to be caught by Jacob and trapped in her basilisk form again. Fortunately, Luz bring Camila to the location, revealing Vee's existence to her. Camila defeats Jacob and rescues Vee, allowing her to live at her house while Luz tries to get back. She later cameos in both "Reaching Out" and "King's Tide", where she appears in Camila's kitchen in both episodes, after Luz and her friends are ejected into the Human Realm.

During the Hexsquad's stay in the Human Realm after the events of Season 2 and during "Thanks to Them", Vee helps them adapt to their new surroundings, introducing them to human objects such as fire extinguishers and alarm clocks. In the first episode of Season 3, after Flapjack unearths an ancient rebus under the floorboards of the portal house, the gang go around town to try and find clues to solve it, to no avail. Eventually, they're forced to go to the Gravesfield Historical Society, and while Vee is uncomfortable visiting thanks to her previous experience, her fears are lifted when it's revealed that the place is now managed by her good friend Masha, who replaced Jacob thanks to him installing personal exhibits. The Hexsquad consult Masha on the rebus, to which they reveal that the symbols on the rebus form a phrase, with the one on the rebus meaning "Titan's Blood". Later on, while searching the museum, Vee comes across a map of Old Gravesfield, matching the map on the rebus and thus deduces the blood's location.

With that, the gang elect to surprise Luz with this news after they go on the Haunted Hay Ride during Halloween. Unfortunately, Hunter accidentally lets a drop of Belos's remains seep into a wound, allowing Belos to manipulating him into bringing Luz along to find the blood earlier, before fully possessing him and attacking Luz. Vee tracks Luz's phone and allows the Hexsquad and Camila to arrive just in time to show down Belos. However, thanks to their reluctance to hurt their possessed friend, Belos gains the upper hand and mortally wounds Hunter's palisman, Flapjack. Hunter manages to resist and throws the Titan Blood vial into a river, spurring Belos to jump into the water, with Camila rescuing Hunter before he drowns. Belos, grabbing the Titan Blood ejects himself from Hunter's body and opens a portal to resume his quest, while Hunter remains unresponsive and on the brink of death so as his final act, Flapjack sacrifices his life force to restore Hunter back to health. With that, Luz, her friends and Camila decide to pursue Belos, while Vee remains behind to cover for Luz and Camila.

After Belos's defeat in "Watching and Dreaming", Vee continues attending Gravesfield High with Luz, eventually graduating. Later on, as Luz packs her stuff to attend university in the Demon Realm, Vee informs Owlbert to get the others to finish the preparation for Luz's quinciñera, which they do so. Later on, she brings Luz through the portal door to surprise her with the party and, along with the main cast, waves goodbye to the audience (and the Collector) in the series's last scene.
