~ Vegapunk's introduction.
Your experiments?! Saturn! You were toying with Kuma's family by using illness such as the Sapphire Scales!! That was the reason why Kuma gave up his life!!
~ Vegapunk when he found out the truth of Saturn's experiments.
Atlas, can you carry him to our meeting point in the Labostratum?!
~ Vegapunk ordering Atlas to carrying Kuma.

Dr. Vegapunk better known as Stella, is a major character in the manga/anime franchise One Piece. He is a scientist that works for the Marines and is responsible for providing them some of their powerful military weapons and equipment, most notably being the Pacifistas and Seraphim. He also possesses extensive knowledge of the Devil Fruits, Seastones, the Lineage Factor, and the ancient technology from a kingdom during the Void Century.

Prior to this, he was a member of an illegal research team known as MADS, where he worked alongside Caesar Clown, Vinsmoke Judge, and Queen. The team was eventually caught and disbanded by the World Government, and Vegapunk would go on to become a scientist for the Marines.

During the escape at Egghead, Vegapunk was killed by his old friend, Borsalino (aka Kizaru) though it was relucantly. After he died, he send a most important message to the world. The Five Elders tries to their attmepted to stop the broadcast, but failed when they were too late even though they've finally destroyed the transmitting Den Den Mushi. Despite his death, his 4 satellites (Shaka, Pyathagoras, Atlas and Edison) still lives and took the Punk Records and Vegapunk's brain to Weatheria to ensure they won't fall into the hands of the World Government where the Government won't gain access to the Mother Flame, plus foiling York's schemes for good. The Satellites created a combined body with their spare parts but also destroying every single one of York's parts so that she won't be revived, if she gets killed. Despite considered dead, Lilith created a cloned body of Stella to ensure his revive while she is staying at Elbaph to create a new research lab and cure Kuma.

He is voiced by Yoshito Yasuhara with later replaced Yōhei Tadano (who also voiced Mimir in God of War and Gen in Street Fighter series) in Japanese and Kent Williams in English.

Appearance[]

Vegapunk is an old man with a gray spiked hair. He has a pink nose, a long mustache and long tongue. He wore a white lab coat, pink shirt with red dots, black pants and purple DOM shoes. He has an apple core on his head to shrink his massive head and place it into a giant tank.

When Vegapunk was young, his hair was brown.

Personality[]

Vegapunk's motives are entirely enigmatic. While some of his creations have been used for more evil purposes, his connections with certain people such as Monkey D. Dragon, Clover and Jaguar D. Saul suggest that he has ultimately good intentions.

Though he works for the Marines, his actions suggest that he has his own ulterior motives and has no true loyalty to them or the World Government. Despite his affiliation with them and the services he has provided for them, Vegapunk seems to despise the World Government, primarily due to the Celestial Dragons for their selfish and cruel treatment towards others.

What is clear is that he is looked upon by many to be a technological genius and a good man. His work has helped the residents from his home island, Karakuri Island, and as a result, he is cherished fondly as the island's pride and joy. Unlike his former colleagues, Vegapunk has shown to have a much higher sense of moral standards and ethics, as he expressed his disgust over Caesar Clown's experimentations, so much that he had him removed from his labs. Also, he's against the idea of converting humans into cyborgs that would include striping away of their own free will.

His relationship with Bartholomew Kuma are shown to be great friends that he offered to help cure Jewelry Bonney of her Sapphire Scales in exchange for cloning project, and he was against with the World Government's idea of turning him into a cyborg, only relent cause of Kuma's choice. He has a sense of honor, as he respected his final wishes of him wanting to protect the Straw Hat Pirates' ship before their inevitable arrival. He also made a promise to Kuma to never tell Bonney the truth although he failed to keep his promise but was forgiven by Bonney since it was Saturn who had Kuma turned into a Pacifista. When hearing Kuma came to Egghead, Vegapunk questioned why. Since Kuma cannot move due to his injuries, Vegapunk ordered Atlas to carry Kuma to their escape route. He also granted Bonney highest authority to command the Pacifistas because he doesn’t like the idea of her being kill by those robots resembling her father be his guilty conscience.

As he is renowned for being the smartest man in the world, Vegapunk takes great pride in his status and the effort he puts in his work. Likewise, he does not appreciate someone like Luffy for writing him off as being dumb, based on certain decisions he makes, such as cutting off his head. He has also shown to be a perfectionist of sort as he deemed the artificial duplicate of Kaido's Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu to be a failure, simply because the color was pink instead of blue, despite the fruit having shown promising effects and development for its eater, Kozuki Momonosuke.

Like Dragon and Luffy, Vegapunks hates the Celestial Dragons and considered them as low lives for their cruelty towards humanity. He is disgusted of Saturn's twisted experiments of the Sapphire Scales on both Ginny and later her daughter Bonney when he is only toying Kuma's family. Vegapunk is also against Saturn's plan of install a self-destruction into Kuma whenever the Revolutonary Army rescue Kuma in order to get rid of the Revolutionary Army, but secretly Vegapunk has tricked Saturn when he didn't install the self-destruction but installed a different failsafe to only shut down Kuma, thus foiling Saturn's plan to destroy the Revolutionary Army.

Vegapunk is much more cautious than even the Five Elders would give credit for. As it shown, Vegapunk outsmarted them when he install Bonney's name as a highest authority to control the Pacifistas and later fooled the Elders when he used an ordinary Den Den Mushi to disguise it as a Trasmitting Den Den Mushi, knowing the Five Elders were attempting to tampering with the truth of the World Government's corruption. His actions earns the wraths of the Five Elders when they cursed him for tricking them with a Den Den Mushi decoy.

Vegapunk Apologizes For Mother Flame

Vegapunk apologies for the Mother Flame.

Vegapunk is also remorseful when he apologies to those who are watching his broadcast for the World Government and York's actions of using the Mother Flame to power up the ancient weapon just to destroy Lulusia Kingdom.

Vegapunk later separated his mind into six different beings and each of them represent a certain aspect of his personality. Shaka represents the good within him, while Lilith simultaneously represents his very evil. York possesses his greedy and gluttonous intentions, while Edison and Pythagoras possess his more rational side, showcasing his wisdom and logical thinking. Despite this, Atlas shows that he has a wrathful side to him as well.

Abilities[]

Devil Fruit[]

  • Brain-Brain Fruit: Vegapunk is able to remember anything he's ever learned and never forget it. This allowing him advanced biological, chemical and mechanical mastery that allowed him to create clones, robots and cyborgs way beyond the technology level of most nations. Vegapunk outclassed his old colleagues Vinsmoke Judge, Queen, and Ceasar Clown, both of whom ignored moral restraints to advance their own projects and ended up with faulty results; all out of their jealousy of Vegapunk. His brain and cranium have to grow continuously to create more space to store information. Eventually he cut part of it out and created a computer to house it and all his knowledge; creating a Punk Record, which is a prototype of the internet of the One Piece World. Though currently only he and his robotic embodiments can access it. He is even smart enough to fool the Five Elders when he disguised an ordinary Den Den Mushi as a decoy of the Transmitting Den Den Mushi, knowing the Elders are trying their futile attempt to stop the truth of the World Government from happening.

Heroic Acts[]

  • Revealing the truth of the World Government's actions to the entire world and apologies everyone for the Government's evil deeds. He revealed the D. clan as well Roger and Professor Clover's real names as part of the D. family

Trivia[]

  • His design suggests that he is based on Albert Einstein, specifically inspired by Einstein's iconic photo of him sticking out his tongue.
    • In addition, his head being sliced open may possibly be a reference to the news regarding Einstein's brain being dissected from his head, following his death.
  • The apple top that sits on his head may possibly be a reference to Isaac Newton and his theory on gravity that he discovered when an apple dropped on his head.
  • Vegapunk is the second non-D. character who dies with a smile (the first being was Donquixote Rosinante).
