~ Veil |
Veil is a major protagonist in the AMC series Into the Badlands.
She is one of the few remaining doctors left in the post-apocalyptic wasteland known as the Badlands. She is the lover and wife of Sunny, the most feared and dangerous Clipper in the Badlands. After years of them seeing each other in secret, Veil becomes pregnant by Sunny. Despite the danger, the two of them decide they have to flee the Badlands and raise their son somewhere safe, far away from the Barons.
He was portrayed by Madeleine Mantock.
Personality[]
Veil is generally a kind and optimistic person considering the harsh conditions that exist in the Badlands. She is a doctor and is willing to treat anyone regardless of their social status, whether they are Cogs or Barons alike. She was taught the moral code of being a doctor by her two adoptive parents and took it to heart, to the point that she is willing to treat people who would otherwise do her harm such as Quinn or the Widow. She also is willing to look past a persons previous mistakes, falling in love with Sunny despite the fact that he was once a remorseless killer. However, this oath to never do harm and treat everyone regardless of the danger they pose can cause serious problems, as she saved Quinn's life after he was fatally injured by Sunny, which ultimately leads to her own demise at Quinn's hands. She also encourages Tilda to poison her own mother, despite the fact that she could have easily poisoned the Widow if she wanted to as Veil was the one treating her, this also leads to the Widow ultimately selling her out to Quinn after Veil attempts to take sanctuary in the Widow's territory.
However, here kindhearted nature does begin to change after the birth of her son Henry, as she is willing to do anything to protect him, even if it means compromising her morals. This is best seen when she drugs Edgar, the kind Clipper who was guarding her, in order to flee from Quinn's bunker. This is despite the fact that she knows Quinn will kill Edgar if he finds out that Veil escaped on his watch. After Edgar wakes up and tries to stop Veil from escaping, as well as angrily berating her for essentially condemning him to death, she fights back against him in an attempt to escape and ultimately bludgeons him to death, although she shows great remorse after doing so. Veil is ultimately willing to give her own life for the sake of her son. After Sunny comes to save her from Quinn, she is held at knifepoint by Quinn who tells Sunny he must choose between Henry and Veil, she stabs his blade through her own neck to kill herself and Quinn, ensuring her sons safety. Her last words have her telling Sunny to make sure Henry is taught to be good, and not turned into a killer the way Quinn manipulated Sunny.
