~ Eddie/Venom after killing Carnage and escaped from the police. |
Edward Charles Allan "Eddie" Brock and the Venom Symbiote are the titular main protagonists of the superhero film trilogy of the same name within Sony's Spider-Man Universe and minor characters of the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Eddie is a freelance reporter that bonded with an alien symbiote known as Venom. After defeating the Life Foundation's head, Carlton Drake, Eddie decided to become a protector of San Francisco with his symbiote best friend. After killing both Cletus Kasady and Carnage, Eddie and Venom became fugitives on the run for escaping the police.
They were both portrayed and voiced by Tom Hardy, who also played Mad Max Rockatansky in Mad Max: Fury Road, James Delaney in Taboo, and Tommy Conlon in Warrior. In by the late Japanese dubbed, he is voiced by Junichi Suwabe from Eddie Brock and Nakamura Shidō from Venom.
Biography[]
Venom[]
Eddie started off as an investigative journalist for the Daily Globe, before his habit of going off-script and making accusations without substantiating evidence led to him being fired and unable to find employment. Eddie's fiancée, Anne Weying, helped him find employment in San Francisco, where Eddie became the host of a vlogging show where he helped expose corporate corruption and unethical practises.
Eddie arranges when his boss asked him to interview with Drake, through his girlfriend Anne Weying, a lawyer affiliated with the Life Foundation. Against instructions, Eddie confronts Drake with confidential materials indicating wrongdoing that he stole from Weying's e-mail, leading to them both being fired from their respective jobs and the end of their relationship.
Six months later, Eddie spent his days struggling to make ends meet, living in a cheap apartment and frequenting a convenience store owned by Mrs. Chen. One night, Eddie was approached by Dr. Dora Skirth - a disgruntled Life Foundation scientist - who informed him that his accusations had been correct. Eddie cynically brushed her off, but after running into Anne and her new boyfriend, Dr. Dan Lewis, he decided he had nothing more to lose and contacted Dr. Skirth. Sneaking Eddie into the Life Foundation's lab, Dr. Skirth explained that the Life Foundation had recovered amorphous extraterrestrials called symbiotes, which could bond to and augment a compatible host organism.
Eddie breaks into Drake's research facility to acquire evidence from his crimes, in the process learning that an acquaintance of his, Maria, has become one of Drake's subjects. Brock attempts to rescue her, but Maria attacks him and the symbiote possessing her transfers from her body to his, killing her in the process. Eddie manages to escape, but soon begins displaying strange symptoms and reaches out to Weying for help. Her new boyfriend, Dr. Dan Lewis, examines Eddie, discovering the symbiote and learning that it is vulnerable to noise.
Eddie is attacked by mercenaries employed by Drake to retrieve the symbiote, but the symbiote takes over his body – transforming him into a monstrous creature – to repel the attackers. Taking shelter at a nearby lighthouse, the symbiote communicates with Eddie, introducing itself as "Venom", and persuades him to form an alliance, so that he can experience life through Eddie, while Eddie gets to enjoy the superhuman attributes the symbiote affords him. Eddie uses his newfound abilities to break into his old workplace to turn in evidence of Drake's crimes, but is intercepted by the polices on the way out and transforms once again to escape. Weying calls him back to Lewis' office, where Eddie learns that the symbiote is slowly rotting his internal organs. Although the symbiote claims it is part of their symbiosis, Anne uses an MRI machine to weaken the symbiote long enough to separate from it, but he is then captured by Drake's men.
At Life Foundation's headquarters, Eddie learns that Drake has bonded with the fugitive symbiote, "Riot", and that they are planning to launch a probe into space and bring a legion of symbiotes back to Earth to assimilate the human race. Meanwhile, Weying reluctantly bonds with the symbiote and breaks into the Life Foundation to rescue Eddie, transferring the symbiote back to him with a kiss. Eddie and Venom merge once again and set out to stop Drake and Riot, battling them on the probe's launch platform. As the probe takes off, Venom manages to damage it, causing it to explode, killing Drake and Riot and foiling their plan. Shortly afterwards, Eddie has mended his relationship with Weying and returned to journalism, while secretly working alongside the symbiote to protect the city.
In a mid-credits scene, Brock prepares to interview incarcerated serial killer Cletus Kasady as the latter tells Eddie when he escapes prison "There's gonna be Carnage".
Venom: Let There Be Carnage[]
A year later, after Eddie visits Kasady to interview him, Venom can figure out where Kasady has hidden the bodies of his victims, which gives Eddie a huge career boost. After Kasady subsequently invites Eddie to attend his execution by lethal injection, Venom is provoked to aggressively attack Kasady via insults towards Eddie. After briefly witnessing Venom's true form, Kasady bites Eddie's hand, unknowingly ingesting a small part of Venom as they reproduce. Eddie is then contacted by Anne, who tells him that she is now engaged to Lewis, much to Venom's displeasure.
Wanting more freedom to eat humans instead of chickens, Venom gets into a heated argument with Eddie, causing the two to end up fighting until the symbiote detaches from his body. Venom and Eddie then go their different ways in disgrace. Venom makes his way through San Francisco by jumping from body to body and happily attending a rave until Anne finds him at Mrs. Chen's store and convinces him to reconcile with Eddie. She bonds with Venom herself to break Eddie out of a police station after he is arrested on suspicion of aiding in Kasady's escape from prison, as the symbiote piece he had swallowed became Venom's son "Carnage."
Making amends, Venom and Eddie bond again and arrive at a cathedral with Dan, where Kasady and his lover Frances Barrison plan to get married, after Barrison and Kasady take Anne and Officer Mulligan hostage, respectively. Venom is shocked to see Carnage ("a red one") envelop Kasady and address them as "father", seeking to eat them, refusing to fight until Eddie promises to let him eat "everybody." Venom begins to fight his son, but is quickly overpowered, and Carnage decides to kill Anne atop the cathedral.
Venom manages to rescue Anne in time and provokes Barrison into using her sonic blast powers, causing both symbiotes to separate from their hosts as the cathedral collapses and the falling bell crushes Barrison. Venom saves Eddie by bonding with him before the impact. Carnage tries to bond with Kasady again, but Venom devours his son before killing Kasady by biting off his head and escaping with Eddie from the police, bidding farewell to Anne and Dan.
While pondering their next steps, Venom and Eddie decide to take a tropical vacation together, with Venom finally feeling the ocean between his toes as he sits on the beach with Eddie, talking about their lives. After Eddie agrees to change their crimefighting name, both declaring that "We are the Lethal Protector", Venom is happy by his approval before the two happily watch the sunset.
Sometime later, Venom and Eddie binge-watch local telenovelas in their tropical vacation cabana. As Venom tells Eddie about the symbiotes' hive mind knowledge of other universes, they are suddenly warped into an unfamiliar hotel room in the MCU, where the pair watch as J. Jonah Jameson discusses Spider-Man's identity as Peter Parker and a "murderer" on television. Venom, recognizing Peter as a criminal, licks the television screen.
Unbeknownst to Venom and Eddie, others from their own respective universes are also transported including the Lizard, Electro, Sandman, Doctor Octopus, the Green Goblin and two versions of Peter Parker, due to Doctor Strange's attempt to cast a spell and restore Peter Parker's secret identity initially going completely wrong and breaking open the multiverse.
Spider-Man: No Way Home[]
At a bar, in an attempt to make sense of their new surroundings, Eddie and Venom have a conversation with the bartender, where they learn that the MCU is full of superheroes while they learn about all of the events that have happened in this universe, being told about the Avengers such as Iron Man and Hulk and how Thanos' quest to collect the Infinity Stones lead to him making everyone disappear. Both Eddie and Venom dismiss the story as Eddie believes that all aliens, like Venom, have a desire to eat brains instead. The bartender somehow takes offense at this, explaining to Eddie that Thanos caused his family to disappear for five years.
When Eddie plots to travel directly to New York City so he and Venom can meet Spider-Man while planning to stay in the MCU with Venom so they can become the new "Lethal Protector" of this universe, Venom suggests that they go skinny dipping instead, although Eddie refuses. Before they can do anything else, Doctor Strange casts a new spell to send all the multiversal visitors back to their own universes and make the world forget Peter Parker's identity, sending Eddie and Venom back to their universe.
Unbeknownst to Eddie, for unknown reasons, it is revealed that Venom managed to leave a detached piece of himself behind in the MCU prior to getting sent back to his own universe along with Eddie, whereupon it began to move on its own after the bartender complained how Eddie didn't pay or even leave a tip for him, unaware of the piece of the Venom symbiote moving near him.
It is unknown what happened with the piece of Venom afterwards as it either possessed and/or killed the bartender or if it ignored him, but it's determination to find Spider-Man heavily implies that it will be hunting him down, since it needs a host body to survive in the MCU.
Venom: The Last Dance[]
“ | Eddie. My home has found us. | „ |
~ Venom to Eddie when they were discovered by the Symbiotes. |
In the MCU, Eddie and Venom learn about the Avengers, Thanos, and then Spider-Man from the bartender; when they decide to travel to New York, they are abruptly dragged back into their home universe. To cheer Eddie up, Venom concocted what he believed to be tequila, while their home universe variant of the bartender watched in shock at the black tendrils flapping around.
Meanwhile, trapped at the heart of Klyntar, Knull opened portals to send his latest creations of Xenophages to planets throughout the universe to seek the Codex.
Eddie left the bar, and is caught on a security camera, which informed a secret government group, commanded by General Strickland, of their location, although the general opted to wait. Eddie stumbled into the back room full of caged dogs, which they realise was for dog fights; the gangsters in charge catch Eddie. He attempted to give them the opportunity to repent and find good homes for the dogs, but the criminals eventually bring out their guns, thus Eddie transformed into Venom, who thrashed the thugs, before eating each of their heads for their brains.
Due to being a fugitive, the only way back into the United States was by latching on to the exterior of a plane; due to Eddie's complaints of the wind and to avoid slipping off, Venom manifested, but doing this also manifested the Codex in his spine. A nearby Xenophage sensed it, and leapt up into the sky, landing on top of the plane; Venom and the Xenophage fight, ending in the creature being ground up in the turbine. Venom jumped off the plane to Eddie's horror, and retreated into his body, allowing him to free fall, until Venom created a parachute out of his Symbiote matter. Despite its dismemberment, on the ground, the Xenophage reassembled herself.
After Eddie landed, he asked Venom what the attacking creature was and why he leapt from the plane without fully manifesting; Venom explained that the creature was another creation of his own creator, a dark celestial being known as Knull. Venom revealed that he carried the Codex, the one thing that would allow Knull to escape his imprisonment; the Codex materialised if a carrier Symbiote or host briefly die, which happened when Eddie was killed by Riot. Knull's Xenophage can only detect the Codex in them if they transform into their suited form, thus why Venom only made a parachute and materialised his own head alone.
Venom is able to manifest in other hosts without triggering the Codex, so possessed a horse that carried Eddie across the desert.
Due to the plane incident, General Strickland located Eddie and Venom, thus he and a squad are escorted in an osprey to apprehend the Symbiote, and kill Eddie. The squad had sonic rifles that forced Venom from Eddie, and they both fall into a river, thus a few scuba troops pursued Venom and a couple chase Eddie; during a struggle underwater, Eddie disarmed a soldier and killed her with the gun, which was to his shock. Venom managed to use fish and a frog to jump back into Eddie, transforming into the suited mode. However, the Xenophage was alerted to the Codex again, thereby quickly rushed towards them; a few soldiers are terrified by the creature, so shoot at it, however, it merely swallowed them and ground them into red mist. The distraction allowed Venom to shift back to Eddie's human form, so was once again invisible to the hunter.
After wandering through Nevada, Eddie comes across Martin Moon, his wife, and two children camping; Martin is a hippie and an alien enthusiast, therefore is driving his family across country to see Area 51, which was being decommissioned within the week. Martin and his family welcome Eddie, although their pre-teen daughter is sceptical of his disheveled appearance and fatigued demeanour. Martin asked where Eddie was heading and he answered New York, so the hippie offered to drive him to at least Las Vegas, which is accepted. On the road, the family sing songs to Eddie's disdain, but the unmaterialised Venom expressed glee telepathically; despite his annoyance, Eddie found the family endearing, and Venom expressed the belief that Eddie could have a nice family, too. The mother drove, while the rest of the family slept, but the youngest Moon awoke, and the boy confided in Eddie that he didn't like aliens because they scared him; Eddie comforted him, although with a lie, saying aliens weren't real. In gratitude, the boy gave him a chocolate bar, which was meaningful as his hippie parents didn't allow them to have chocolate normally; Eddie thanked him and alluded to the fact that Venom liked chocolate a lot.
Eddie part ways with the Moons at Vegas, although Martin gives him $20 and encouraged him to believe in his spiritual potential. Eddie attempted to enter the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, but was rejected by the doorman due to lacking proper attire, as he was still in his dirty T-shirt, jacket, shorts, and sandals from Martin; Venom offered help, which Eddie accepted, but Venom mistook it as an attack order, so headbutt the doorman, knocking him out. Eddie retreated before security arrived. Eddie noticed a drunk man in a nice suit urinating on one of the replica Eiffel Tower columns; Venom knocked him out so they could steal his suit and shoes to fit the casino's dress code.
Eddie was able to easily enter the Paris casino now; he was delayed when Venom discovered the poker machines, as he excitedly used one, finding a rush from gambling. However, when they ran out of money, Venom angrily kicked the machine hard enough to break it. Eddie began to leave when he noticed Mrs. Chen nearby, who called out to him; Eddie noted that he was fugitive, but she said that she didn't care. Mrs. Chen asked if Venom was also with him, which Eddie confirmed, as Venom said hello while still hidden. Due to her winning streak, Mrs. Chen was upgraded to the penthouse and invited Eddie and Venom to join her, as to enjoy the facilities.
In the penthouse, Mrs. Chen asked for a dance, which Eddie was hesitant to do, but Venom transformed into suited form to dance with her; while Venom and Mrs. Chen enjoyed the chance - to Eddie's bafflement over their choreographed steps - by transforming, the Xenophage was able to locate them again, and it crashed into the penthouse; Venom reverted to human form, thus the creature went searching outside of the building, but due to casino security footage, General Strickland had found them, bringing a new squad to take them into custody. The troops use sonic rifles to defuse Eddie and Venom, with the human handcuffed and the Symbiote captured inside a strong glass cylinder. Mrs. Chen tried to protest but the soldiers threaten her into standing down.
Despite the separation of Symbiote and host, the Xenophage is able to determine that the Codex is with the soldiers, so pursued the osprey from the ground. Head of Area 55 research facility, Dr. Teddy Paine (who was notably paralysed in her left arm due to a thunderstorm that also killed her twin brother), and Christmas are alien sympathisers, but appear to obey the military orders to impound Venom with the other Symbiotes they had managed to obtain. Eddie awakened in his cell, and noticed his neighbour was Patrick Mulligan, which shocked as he thought the police officer had died in the fight against Carnage and Shriek; Mulligan, having received a new Symbiote after the Carnage spawn died, was privy to Knull, therefore warned Eddie about the coming darkness.
Dr. Paine and Christmas greet Eddie, who asked where Venom was, and wanting to be reunited with his friend. Before a proper discussion could continue, General Strickland and some of his men interrupted, declaring that he had been given authority over the facility, and he aimed to execute the Symbiotes and hosts, especially since he learned about the Codex from Mulligan, and knew that a subsequent death of either Symbiote or host would destroy it, therefore keeping Knull imprisoned forever. Before Eddie could be shot, Christmas turned into Venom, revealing she had allowed to escape the holding canister, the Symbiote then returned to Eddie, who became Venom instead. A further complication was the arrival of the Xenophage, as she burst through into the subterranean facility; Mulligan transformed into his Symbiote suit and restrained the creature, telling Venom and the others to flee.
Despite Mulligan's effort, the Xenophage was able to overpower him, and consumed him, grinding him and Symbiote into a state that was unrecoverable. The hunter crashed through walls, which pinned Venom, but also delayed it from entering the main area; Venom ordered to free the other Symbiotes, which was done, transforming scientists and security guards into Symbiote warriors; Dr. Paine took a vial continuing a unique Symbiote, but pocketed it for the moment. The Symbiotes battle the Xenophage to allow Venom time to escape with the Codex; on the surface atop a watchtower, the Moons had snuck in to satisfy Martin's dream of seeing aliens, which almost believed to not exist until the Symbiote and Xenophage battle crashed out into the open.
General Strickland regathered his remaining soldiers to used weaponised vehicles on ground and air; the only remaining Symbiotes were Venom, two unknowns, and the one bonded to Christmas. The Xenophage revealed a sonic attack that briefly separated hosts from Symbiote, but it also acted as a signal to Knull, who sent more Xenophages as reinforcements. Eddie made to the top of the watchtower to reunite with the Moons; he apologised for lying to the boy, but promised that Venom would protect him. Strickland fired a bazooka at the Xenophages, which blew them apart, however, didn't stop them as they gradually reassembled and regenerated; the explosion knocked the watchtower down, with Venom and other Symbiotes ensuring they safely landed. The Symbiote Christmas exclaimed that they are there to help, which appeared to break Strickland's prejudices into understanding not all aliens are malevolent as he feared.
The remaining soldiers either retreated or were killed, leaving the final two Symbiotes, Venom and the one with Christmas, coordinated to keep slicing apart the Xenophages, although can't achieve permanent damage; the Symbiote is separated from Christmas by a hypersonic screech and destroyed in a Xenophage maw. One of the creatures pinned Venom, but was exploded by a shot from Strickland's bazooka, used by Martin, who apologised and fled. Noticing the large silos full of highly corrosive acid (used for disposing of obsolete hardware and biohazards), Venom realised a way to destroy the creatures, thus he expanded his mass to ensnare each of the five Xenophages, which shrieked and clawed, but he kept them contained within his expanded body.
Before reaching the acid nozzle, Venom expelled Eddie from the biomass; General Strickland used his security clearance to activate the acid spray, which began dousing Venom and the Xenophages; realising that the only way to dissolve the creatures faster than they could heal was to release all of the acid, Venom grew tendril to place a loose reinforced door over Eddie, and he bid him farewell, noting that he will remember the human and hoped the Symbiote would be remembered in turn, Due to suffering fatal injuries earlier, Strickland used a powerful explosive in a suicide attack, which detonated the acid silos, completely covering Venom and the Xenophages, which also detonated the fuel depot and remaining explosives, causing a massive explosion, finally killing the alien hunters. The Moons and a handful of military personnel had retreated to a safe distance, but Dr. Paine and Christmas were still running to escape the blast radius; Dr. Paine took the vial Symbiote from her lab coat and crushed the glass, the unleashed alien turning her into an electrical Symbiote, Agony, who carried Christmas to avoid the blast zone. When safely far away enough, Dr. Paine reverted to her human form, and she noticed that the Symbiote had repaired her left arm.
While Eddie had received burns and concussive harm from the explosions, the reinforced door had protected him from greater injuries, although he still passed out. He awoke in another military facility, now in a hospital bed; a General greeted him and commended him for his bravery in foiling the Xenophage threat. The General also noted that Eddie's criminal record had been expunged, and he was free to go, although should he tell anyone about the aliens, he would be imprisoned in a place from which he would never be released.
To fulfill the promise to Venom, Eddie made it to New York. Eddie wistfully looked at the Statue of Liberty, fondly sending affirmation that he was there for his friend, the presumably deceased Venom, while also confirming that he would never forget him, as he reminisced of all of their notable times together, good and bad, great and small.
Outside the universe, in the darkest space in which the living prison world of Klyntar existed, Knull declared that the Earth's fate was still doomed, with the supposed Venom's death only ensuring it, and despite the destruction of the Codex, he had a scheme to bring about the King in Black to release him from his tomb and annihilate all existence to return everything to pure darkness once again.
In the aftermath, the bartender, confused, woke up and began wandering around and screams for help as he left the destroyed Area 51, and then a cockroach is seen approaching the destroyed vial of the small piece of Venom from the coin at the Mexican bar, presumably taking over the cockroach as its host.

Venom (Comic)[]
In September 14, 2018 Venom appears in the comic of the same name for the film.
Venom Unleashed[]
In Venom Unleashed, Venom and Eddie are the titular playable characters.
Feed the Beast[]
In Feed the Beast, Venom is walking and hiding in Eddie Brock's apartment, while trying to a catch food products.
Fortnite[]
Venom appears in Fortnite, in the Venom pack/Symbiotes Set in the Selectable Styles, that can be purchased in the Item Shop for 2,000 V-Bucks or with the Venom Bundle for 2,800 V-Bucks. Eddie Brock was first released in Chapter 2: Season 8 and is part of the Set.
Personality[]
Similar to his original counterpart, Eddie is trying to excel in journalism. However, unlike his original counterpart (who happens to be somewhat wrathful in nature), Eddie tries to be more civil as he tends to avoid causing any trouble with the authorities. He is also more civil with Anne due to their friendship, even after their breakup and learning that she's going on with another man, Eddie decided that it would be better not to interfere with Anne's new relationship.
When being bonded with the Venom symbiote, Eddie seems to be very uncomfortable in becoming its host body as it made him go on the run from the law. Even he got help from the surgeon and Anne's new boyfriend, Dan check on him. However, he seems to appreciate his new abilities, even convincing the symbiote that they would just use the power only to take down criminals instead of hurting innocent people; even the symbiote agreed to this as it admitted that it was treated as a 'loser' in its home planet.
The Venom symbiote dislikes to be called a "parasite", and is sadistic, violent, and aggressive, along with having a dark sense of humor. But it is capable of having kindness and compassion, along with willing to work together with Eddie. It also cares about Eddie and loves him, along with Anne as well, to the point that it wants them to be together and is willing to make sure that it happens.
In the sequel, Eddie and Venom are shown to have gotten adjusted to their lives while bonded together, as Venom can be seen cooking an unsanitary breakfast as he sings. Though it is implied that the Venom symbiote doesn't know how to live like a human, as it leaves the apartment where it and Eddie lives a mess. It also seems to get along well with Mrs. Chen to the point that it says good evening in Mandarin to her.
In the third film, Venom has grown to be more mature, as while he still relished in eating brains and being the "Lethal Protector," he had grown to be more patient of Eddie's human frailties and shows genuine care towards him. Due to being a fugitive and an involuntarily jump to a parallel universe and back, Eddie became coarse towards Venom again, however, Venom never took any of the complaints and criticisms personally. Venom maintained a friendly supportive attitude towards Eddie that allowed the human to recover from the recent emotional extremes. Venom may also be fond of children, as expressed joy that he didn't eat the two Moon children, and he also noted that he believed that Eddie had the potential to be a good father himself, thus showing encouragement for him to establish bonds beyond just the two of them.

Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Klynthar Physiology: Venom is a symbiote, a race of parasitic goo-like alien lifeforms that can possess a living being upon physical contact and endow them superhuman abilities including enhanced strength, speed, durability, healing factor, shapeshifting, and construct creation. While he is capable of seemingly suppressing a host's mind and use their bodies as if it were his own, he is able to almost meld minds with them and work collectively with them while sharing the same body. Eddie Brock himself on the other hand, lacked notable superhuman abilities of his own, but thanks to his compatibility with Venom, the alien symbiote who merged with his body, he gained the access for all powers and abilities Venom endowed to him.
- Possession/Symbiotic Enhancement: Being a symbiote, Venom can possesses any living beings upon physical contact with them, passing into their flesh as if intangible and taking full control of their bodies. Once inside the host, Venom is able to enhance their physical abilities to inhuman levels, allowing them to overpower other humans with ease and heal from severe injuries such as broken bones and damaged tissue in seconds. Venom displayed that it can suppress its host's mind to fully control their bodies should they reject him. Should they accept it, both it and them can able to almost meld minds with them and work collectively with them while sharing the same body as demonstrated through the teamwork with Eddie. The abilities it can use while bonded with a host, as well as how good its host exploit them for their advantage, is fueled by the compatibility to each other.
- Shapeshifting: Being a Klynthar, Venom possesses the ability to change both shape and appearance of his very form as well as fashion part of its very being into weapons and constructs.
- Symbiotic Costume: The symbiote can envelop the host's body to form its own that akin to a sentient, malleable but durable suit complete with eyes, claws and a mouth with powerful jaws and sharp teeth while increasing in mass, turning him into powerful opponent.
- Construct Creation: As stated before, Venom can fashion parts of his very being and that of host into weapon such as talons, web-like tendrils, shields, and as shown in climax of the film, using most of its biomass into a parachute/shield to both slow the descend and protection from harm. Venom's mastery over this ability notably pales in comparison to other more powerful symbiote’s such as Riot and Carnage, as most of his constructs are still malleable and he has yet to demonstrate being able to create more solid and detachable ones, such as blades.
- High Intelligence: As a symbiote, Venom possesses greater intelligence than most species on earth. Venom can speak English, Mandarin, and Japanese. He also possesses a photographic memory as seen by how he was able to recreate the drawings from Cletus Kasady's prison cell just from some glimpses, He also withholds 80-billion-light-years of hive-knowledge that expands across the Multiverse, which is also shared with all other members of his species. Notably, when transported to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Venom instantly recognizes the local Spider-Man despite having never crossed paths with his reality's Spider-Man, most likely from at least one symbiote from the multiverse having encountered Spider-Man before.
- Superhuman Strength: Venom can give the host tremendous superhuman strength; enabling the host easily to overpower, lift, toss and kill others (as Eddie easily took out multiple Life Foundation guards by himself). The symbiote is able to exert immense physical force; their strikes can easily break various metals, and send objects and people flying at high speed and force. Venom can easily bend, rip and tear metal frames, and send doors flying off of their hinges with a single strike.
- Superhuman Leap: By having Venom increasing the strength of his leg muscles, Eddie can leap superhumanly high at will.
- Superhuman Durability: Due to Venom's presence inside him, Eddie's bodily tissue becomes substantially harder than normal human, which increased to maximum level by forming black, slimy armor around him. His durability is further increased upon forming his hulking body over his host's.
- Superhuman Speed: Venom's enhancement on his muscles also enable Eddie to move faster than regular humans can keep up. A testament of this best displayed throughout his ability to dodge bullets and catch a tear gas that was fired from him.
- Superhuman Agility: Venom's ability to amplify his host's physicality allow him to increase dexterity and mobility to inhuman levels, to the point where Eddie was able climb to the top of a tree in mere seconds. While manifesting his full body over Eddie, Venom demonstrated acrobatic and gymnastic capabilities despite his burly and hulking frame, being able to move on all fours with ease, charge up the side's of buildings,
- Regenerative Healing Factor: In addition of muscular enhancements and increase of bodily tissue's durability, Venom's presence in Eddie's body enable him to quickly regenerate from the most severe of injuries in mere seconds, from ruptured organs to broken bones. This allowed Brock to almost instantly recover from being hit by a van and having much of his body broken, as well as bring him back from the brink of death after he had been impaled by Riot. Even without a host, Venom can regenerate himself even from smallest bit of his very being provided that he has enough nourishment to so, as seen when the symbiote recovered some time after sacrificing most part of himself to protect Eddie.
- Symbiote Hive Mind: According to Venom, all the symbiotes including himself are connected through a hive mind that extends across many universes thus enabling him to experience what the others do and subsequently use the knowledge from the same experience to his advantage. Because of such quirk proved too much for their host to handle, Venom was understandably hesitant to share it to Eddie and that he could endow a fraction of it under the symbiote's discretion.
Weaknesses[]
- Sonic Vibrations: As powerful as the symbiote is, exposure to extremely loud noise and even that of intense sonic vibrations drives the alien crazy, and concentrated sonic blasts can separate Symbiote from the host.
- Intense Heat: Aside from the intense noise causing the alien to go crazy, Venom can also be injured through exposure to intense heat, such as from lasers, fire, etc.
- Hunger: Because of his uncontrollable hunger, Venom must feed on living flesh to sustain himself or he'll eat the organs of his own host, namely humans ( Small animals such as chickens are not enough). Even though he can eat chocolate (that contains phenethylamine), he'll still need to feed until he's satisfied.
- Symbiote Separation: If Eddie is not connected to Venom, he is just a normal human without powers and is vulnerable to fatal injuries and death. Venom on the other hand, would immediately die out.
- Incompatible Host: Venom can only fully bond with hosts that biologically compatible to him such as Eddie; those who less compatible would have their organs wear out faster from keeping the symbiote energized and eventually died out regardless whether they bond willingly.
Trivia[]
- In the comics, Venom has a spider logo on his chest because the first person he bonded was Spider-Man. In the film, when Venom first bonds with Eddie Brock, there is no spider logo on his chest.
- He is much like his original counterpart from the Raimiverse when Topher Grace's Venom also lacks muscle mass and height. Neither Tom Hardy's nor Topher Grace's character has yet completed their true form or appearance from the original comics.
- In the original comics, Symbiotes don't have concepts of names, thus it was unnamed until bonding with Eddie Brock, with them collectively known as Venom as in "venom to Spider-Man." Although, the Venom name remained with the Symbiote for each subsequent host. Whereas in the film version, it had the name Venom from the beginning.
- During the end credit scenes from Spider-Man: No Way Home, Venom accidentally left a splinter of himself behind in the MCU when he and Eddie got sent back to their home reality.
- It's unknown whether Venom's fragment would find its way to Flash Thompson first and become Agent Venom as the true lethal protector, Mac Gargan to become the Venom version of Scorpion, Spider-Man since the last thing Eddie wanted to do before being sent home was go to New York to meet him, or Eddie's very Marvel Cinematic Universe variant who possibly existed, albeit yet to appear.
- Either way, it is most likely that said Venom splinter will eventually regenerate into a new symbiote, just like Carnage in Venom's universe. Whether this new Venom will be the hostile one like in the Raimiverse Spider-Man trilogy or Carnage remains to be seen.
- There is a continuity error in the method of Eddie Brock/Venom's transportation back to his home reality between films: in Spider-Man: No Way Home, he fades as light, like every variant returned by Dr. Strange's amended spell, however, in Venom: The Last Dance a portal (akin to ones made by Knull) opened behind them, dragging them into their home universe. In No Way Home, Eddie mentioned Spider-Man and planned to go to New York and meet him, while in The Last Dance, he didn't mention him.
- It could be explained, however, that due to Eddie and Venom being heavily drunk, the way of them being transported back to their universe is different based on their respective rather than the actual method of the transportation.
- Although Venom is thought to be dead, a cockroach is shown in the post-credits coming into contact with what appears to be a part of the Venom symbiote, indicating that Venom isn't really dead as it's likely implied that he is still alive and will possibly return in the future to reunite with Eddie.
- Another theory is that Venom is likely alive via a piece of himself that he left behind in the MCU when he and Eddie were sent back to their universe, implying that he is going to find a new host body in order to survive in the MCU. It is also implied that since he left a part of himself behind in the MCU, he will possibly make his way to New York City by jumping from one host body to another, where he will likely encounter and interact with Spider-Man in the upcoming fourth Spider-Man movie as he had been wanting to meet and fight him due to recognizing the latter as a criminal.
