~ Garfield to Odie about Vic. |
Victor Sr., also known as Vic, is the deuteragonist of the 2024 animated feature film The Garfield Movie, a film adaptation of the comic strip "Garfield" created by Jim Davis.
He is the estranged father of the titular character.
He is voiced by Samuel L. Jackson, who also voices Frozone in Pixar's Incredibles franchise, Whiplash in DreamWorks' Turbo, Afro Samurai in the franchise of the same name, Jimbo in Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank, and portrays Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction, Zeus Carver in Die Hard with a Vengeance, Ray Arnold in Jurassic Park, Carl Lee Hailey in A Time to Kill, Danny Roman in The Negotiator, Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Augustus Gibbons in the XXX film series, Darius Kincaid in The Hitman’s Bodyguard films, Marcus Banks in Spiral: From the Book of Saw, and Alfred Solomon in Argylle.
Biography[]
When Garfield was a kitten, Vic attempts get food for his son, only to find out that he's wandered off to a young adult man named Jon Arbuckle. Seeing how happy Garfield is, he decides not to take back his son and let Jon adopt him as his pet, pleased that he'll be well-looked after. However over the years, he kept his distance from Garfield, watching from afar in a tree to watch him grow.
One night, he discovers that Garfield and his best friend, a beagle dog named Odie, were kidnapped by two dogs named Roland and Nolan, who take them to an abandoned mall as hostages. He puts a black hoodie on him to disguise himself and rescues Garfield and Odie.
And just then, he accidentally calls Garfield "Junior", causing his son to take off his disguise to reveal him. Shocked and angry at his father, Garfield blames Vic for "abandoning" him in the alley as a kitten as the tomcat tries to explain the truth.

Physical Appearance[]
Vic is portrayed as a large and muscular tomcat (possibly an Exotic Shorthair-Maine Coon hybrid), resembling his son facially and with a similar, but desaturated fur color scheme. Apart from body shape, Vic has longer fur than Garfield, and unlike the latter, has countershading with a lighter shade of fur on his belly and neck. He also has short ears and massive paws.
Personality[]
Unlike Garfield, Vic is more of an outdoor cat who's very adventurous out in public, fatherly and brave, though much like his own son, he's prone to slacking and being lazy. Despite his tubby build and similar easygoing attitude to his son, he is thrill-seeking and intelligent first and foremost. Vic was able to prioritize jumping on a train over everything else during his adventure with Garfield, as he decided on a perfect spot to jump on a train from quicker than the latter.

Trivia[]
- Vic is the second father to serve as the deuteragonist, much like Zuba in DreamWorks' Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.
- Argylle and The Garfield Movie, both of which Samuel L. Jackson starred in, came out in 2024.
- It's unknown who Vic's wife is, though it is implied to be Garfield's mother herself, specifically from the comics and TV specials. This is unlikely, however, as depictions of Garfield's father have been inconsistent due to pictured as brief, non-physical appearances and cameos before Vic's conception.
- This is also the case with Garfield's paternal grandparents, as while the material does imply that they are Vic's parents, the differences in the continuity make this unlikely.
