Victor the Busy Engine is a character from Thomas & Friends. He works at the Sodor Steamworks alongside his assistant, Kevin.
He is voiced by David Bedella in the US dub and the UK dub of Season 17-24, and Matt Wilkinson in the UK dub of Season 13-16.
Bio[]
Victor used to work at the Manuel de Céspedes Sugar Mill in Cuba, until he was transferred to Sodor by boat. During his journey, the chains holding him down snapped. Upon arriving at Brendam Docks, Victor tried to tell the workmen about his problem. However, they couldn't understand him as he only spoke Spanish. Because of this, Luke, who was an engine that they had picked up during the journey, was lifted off of the ship first. Unfortunately, he accidentally bumped into Victor, causing him to roll off the deck and into the sea. Although Victor was able to land on a jetty, he was left in the seas for a very long time, due to the bad weather. When it cleared out, Victor was finally lifted out of the water, and was sent to the Sodor Steamworks. During that time, he decided to learn English, and his first word of English was "red," as that was the color that he chose to be repainted in.
Victor now works at the Sodor Steamworks and is always busy finding, delivering or collecting parts, and supervising activities around the yard. He works closely with Kevin, whose clumsiness often annoys Victor. He is a wise and friendly engine who is always ready to help his friends. However, he doesn't tolerate any nonsense.
Appearance[]
Victor is a dark red narrow gauge tank engine with yellow stripes, a headlamp, and a yellow and black buffer.
Personality[]
Victor is always kind to other engines. When an engine breaks down, Victor will always be there to fix them. However, he can sometimes get frustrated when Kevin drops something. Despite this, he likes working with him at the Sodor Steamworks.
Basis[]
Victor is based on Minaz No. 1173, an 0-4-0ST locomotive built by Baldwin Locomotive Works that worked at the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Sugar Mill in Cuba.
Trivia[]
Whenever Victor greets an engine, he sometimes says, "My friend." He does refer to them by their names, though.
In Snow Place Like Home, Victor says that he hates snow. Despite this, he goes out into the snow when he thinks that Kevin is lost in the blizzard.
Since Victor is Kevin's boss, he is always referred to as Boss. However, Kevin does refer to Victor by his name in Charlie and Eddie, Bill or Ben?, and Snow Place Like Home.
Thomas is the first engine who was fixed by Victor, and Kenji is the last engine who was fixed by him. This was shown in the movie special, Hero of the Rails, and the Series 24 episode, Kenji on the Rails Again. Ironically, Hero of the Rails and Kenji on the Rails Again are Victor's first and last appearances in Thomas & Friends.
