Colonel Victor Hoffman is a fictional character in the Gears of War series, being a Gear officer and the Chief of Defense Staff of the Coalition of Ordered Governments. Being a war veteran of the Pendulum Wars, Hoffman would fight against the Locust Horde after Emergency Day, and later the Lambent.
He is voiced by Jamie Alcroft.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Victor Hoffman was born in 46 B.E. on Tyrus, and joined the Coalition of Ordered Governments during the Pendulum Wars. Hoffman began his career as a non-commissioned officer, and had his first serious date with a woman named Nina Kladry, and took her to museums. During this time, Victor met and befriended Bernadette Mataki, and the two dated for a time. Major Ross Hollend later told him to break up with Bernadette after he was accepted for late-entry officer training, and Hoffman reluctantly did so.
Hoffman later met a lawyer name Margert while she was working on an inquiry for the Defense Department, and the two began dating and later married.
Emergency Day[]
Hoffman was in the capital city of Ephyra when the Locust Horde first emerged, and rendezvous with Corporal Minh Young Kim. Though Hoffman had his convoy, they were attacked outside the House of Sovereigns. Kim and his squad managed to defeat the Locust, and one squad members used the Hammer of Dawn to kill a Corpser. After the Locust, Hoffman chose Kim to be his and Anya Stroud's escort.
Trivia[]
- The developers originally intended to have Hoffman give a speech in Gears of War 2, but it didn't work out.
- Hoffman was originally suppose to die in Gears of War 3, but Karen Traviss didn't want it to happen (due to seeing him as one of the few people in the books that has a historical perspective).
- He is the announcer for the COG in Gears of War, but is replaced by Chairman Richard Prescott in Gears of War 2.
