Biography[]

Early Life[]

Victor "Sully" Sullivan was born in 1950 to unnamed father, whom the former described as being lousy during his childhood. When he reached the appropriate age, Sully joined the United States Navy, but he was later dishonorably discharged when he was caught running illegal scams. Following his discharge, Sully became a free lance thief and encountered Katherine Marlowe, whom he began a romantic relationship with. Around this time, Victor pulled off a fake santo on Pablo Escobar, and later encountered the drug baron Hector Alcázar when in Japan. In addition, Sully had a run in with Shoreline's leader Nadine Ross, but he was able to get the upper hand when he evaded them.

Cartagena[]

Sully worked with Marlowe in attempting to steal Sir Francis Drake's ring, but came across a young boy named Nathan Drake trying to steal the ring as well. When Katherine threatened to kill the child, Victor changed his allegiance and assisted Nathan in evading her agents. After helping the child, Sully offered to teach him the ropes of becoming a thief, and soon followed a partnership that lasted for decades. While teaching Nate the streets, the two often got in dangerous situations, such as being imprisoned and not being able to go to several countries. At some point, Sully became acquainted with Nate's older brother Sam, but the two often didn't see eye-to-eye on several things. Victor's reaction to Sam's supposed death in Panama is unknown, but he continued to help Nathan on his treasure hunts.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss[]

Sully is contacted by Nate to help him rescue Marisa Chase, as she was captured by Roberto Guerro in Panama. During their mission, Sully and Nate encountered Guerro's men and Jason Dante's mercenaries. When coming across a crevice, Sully wasn't able to make the jump and injured his leg, leaving Nate to continue on his own. Though unable to help his protégé, Victor went on to obtain one of Dante's helicopters to retrieve Nate and Marisa as Quivira collapsed.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune[]

Sully works with Nate in trying to find the whereabouts of Sir Francis Drake's coffin, and they are assisted by the journalist Elena Fisher. Victor arrives in his seaplane when Nate and Elena are attacked by Eddy Raja's pirates, and takes the back ashore. Nate learns from Sir Francis' journal of the location of El Dorado, and Sully expresses his hope in finding it since he is in debut with several people. After leaving Elena behind, the two reach to the Amazon rainforest and came across the temple empty, but follow a trail that leads to an abandoned German U-Boat. While Drake searches the boat, Sully is confronted by Gabriel Roman and Atoq Navarro, whom are also searching for the lost city.

During the confrontation, Roman reveals that Sully told of their location since he promised to pay a debt he owes him. Not wanting to deal with Drake, Roman decides to kill him but is stopped by Victor, who is shot as a torpedo inside the German U-Boat explodes. Sully manages to survive due to Sir Francis' journal stopping the bullet from penetrating, but he is forced to fake an allegiance with Roman to reunite with Nate. While in the monastery on the island, Sully is confronted by Nate and Elena, but reveals how he survived and that he was faking his alliance with Roman. The trio then work together to solve a puzzle to enter the treasure vault, but when mercenaries arrive in the area, Sully diverts them.

After being separated from Nate and Elena, Sully remains in the courtyard and frequently attempts to make contact with Drake to no avail. He is later able to do so and asks for his protege's assistance, and is informed by Drake of the El Dorado statue turning people into feral creatures. The two then reach Roman's location, but are held at gunpoint by Navarro's mercenaries and witness Gabriel turn into a monster. When Navarro prepares to escape, Sully assists Nate into reaching for Atoq's helicopter, but he is separated from his protégé. Despite this, Victor is able to obtain a yacht containing treasure and reach Navarro's tanker, where he reunites with Nate and Elena.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves[]

Sully is informed by Chloe Frazer of Nate's imprisonment in Turkey, as their partner Harry Flynn betrayed him at the Istanbul museum. The two bail him out by using some of treasure previously obtained from their last adventure, and explain that Flynn and his employer Zoran Lazarević have located Marco Polo's ships. Since Lazarević and his men haven't found the Cintamani stone, the trio form a plan to infiltrate Zoran's camp to find the stone's location. In Borneo, Victor assists Nate in planting explosives across the area to cause a distraction, and Drake learns that Lazarević is following Polo's trail to find Shambhala to obtain the stone. The trio then reach the mountain where Polo's crew hid, and they find a Phurba dagger and a map that shows Nepal as the way to the secret passage to Shambhala.

When leaving the mountain, the trio are confronted by Flynn and Zoran's men, but Chloe is able to help them escape. When reaching a cliff, Sully tells Nate that he isn't staying for this adventure due to his age, feeling that the risks are too for him to participate in. After Nate defeats Lazarević and prevents the war criminal from using the sap to take over the world, Sully reunites with his allies in the Tibetan village.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception[]

In the 2010s, Nate plans in obtaining the cipher disc to continue his pursuit of Sir Francis Drake's expeditions, and Sully works with him alongside Chloe and Charlie Cutter. After the exchange with Talbot, the group follow Marlowe's vehicle to an abandoned warehouse, where they discover an underground tunnel. Nate discovers a map inside a golden hind and T.E. Lawrence's journal before they have to escape from Marlowe's agents, and narrowly evade being killed. Returning to their hideout, Drake explains that Sir Francis and John Dee were tasked by Queen Elizabeth to find the Atlantis of the Sands. Finding documents that the explorer went to France and Syria, the group split up to see what each location contains.

In France, Sully and Nate find a castle where a tomb is kept underground, finding an amulet that can lead them to the lost city. The two are confronted by Talbot, who takes the amulet and escapes before booby trapped spiders arrive. After escaping the burning mansion, Sully begins to question Nate about their situation, wondering if the quest is worth dying over. During their conversation, the two realized that Charlie and Chloe could be in trouble in Syria if Talbot followed them, and they travel there and find the two not harmed. The group then continue their search for the other half of the amulet, but Cutter is drugged by Talbot in an attempt to eliminate Drake. Once they return Cutter to normal, the group manage to obtain the amulet, but are forced to give it to Marlowe and Talbot when confronted.

The group are able to escape once again, but Cutter breaks his leg and Chloe decides to remain with him and not continue on the adventure. Seeing their next stop is in Yemen, Sully tells Nate they will have to get permits to explore the city, and hints at having to contact Elena since she is there. Reuniting with Elena in the city, the trio find the catacombs that hold the constellations to find Iram, and Sully is able to find its location due to his Naval history. Escaping from the area from another spider attack, Nate is drugged by Talbot, causing him to run away and be captured by Marlowe. During his search for his protégé, Sully is captured by Marlowe's agents, and they take him to the desert since he knows the constellations.

While captured by Marlowe's men, Nate and Salim arrive and rescue him during their pursuit to find the Atlantis of the Sands. Sully and Nate manage to enter the city, but Drake falls victim to the hallucinogenic water from Iram and runs away once again. Victor then reunites with him, explaining that the water is tainted and that what caused the city to fall. Realizing that Sir Francis abandoned the expedition after learning this, and that Marlowe is planning on taking the water via the brass vessel, Nate decides to focus on stopping her. The two manage to stop her by destroying the winch holding the vessel at the cost of Ubar falling apart, and are able to escape following Marlowe and Talbot's demise.

After stopping Marlowe, Sully and Nate reunite with Elena, and Victor shows them his new seaplane after Nate crashed his previous one. Following the adventure, Nate decided to end his profession to live a normal life with Elena, as the couple rekindled their marriage and moved to New Orleans. Due to this, Sully and Nate started to lose contact with each other, as it's mentioned that Drake hasn't contacted his mentor in two years.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End[]

When Sam returns and asks for Nate's help to find Henry Avery's treasure, they contact Sully to help them steal the Saint Dismas cross from an auction in Italy. While the Drake brothers work on infiltrating the auction and finding a way to steal the cross, Sully stays on the floor and meets Nadine and Rafe Adler. Once they retrieved the cross, Sully obtained an limousine as an escape vehicle to help the Drake brothers escape. At their hideout, they find a map that pinpoints a grave in Scotland, but Victor decides to stay behind and wait for the two in his seaplane. Once they retrieve their next clue, the siblings are forced to escape from Scotland in Sully's seaplane when encountering Shoreline.

The Drake's explain that their next stop is in Madagascar based on a coin they retrieved, and Sully assists the two in finding the captain's towers. The trio travel across King's Bay and pinpoint two captains towers that could contain the clue, and Sam splits from Nate and Sully to reach the second one. Sully and Nate then head to a clock tower and discover a secret room beneath and found the next location, but Rafe contacts Nate and reveals that he hacked their phones and is preparing to ambush them. Sully and Nate then battle against Shoreline until they reach a getaway vehicle to reach Sam, but Nate is forced to separate from Victor during the chase. Victor reunites with the brothers at motel, and learn from them that Avery was recruiting infamous pirates to create Libertalia.

When entering their room, they are confronted by Elena, whom Nate lied about his whereabouts, but she leaves out of anger and confusion when she learns of Sam. Nate tells Sully to go after her as he wants to continue searching for Libertalia with Sam, and Elena later changes her mind to go after Nate. The two reach the island and Elena is able to find an injured Nate, who explains that Sam lied about being in debt to Alcázar. The group then decide to rescue him, but Nate is later forced to go after his brother when he decides to continue his pursuit over Avery's treasure. Nate is able to do so and defeat Adler, and the group return to King's Bay where Victor and Sam decide to become partners.

In the following years, Sully and Sam would eventually retire from the treasure hunting business, and remained in contact with Nate, Elena and their daughter Cassie. Nate and Elena became owners of a dog whom they named Vicky, a reference to Sully agreeing to get Drake a dog and naming her that.

Trivia[]

  • During the events of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, Sully reminds Nate that he has "25 years on him". At that time, Nate's age is 34 years old (see here), placing Sully's age at 60 years old during the events of Drake's Deception.
  • A funny thing about Sully is he never goes out empty-handed in any adventures with Drake with all kinds of treasure from gold, ancient coin or event a military helicopter (Golden Abyss). The most prominent trait about Drake that he always get empty-handed in all his adventures.
  • Sully (with Elena) and after Nate, is the most present character in the Uncharted series media. He only isn't present in Drake's Trail, Toyota Car Advets and the 'Long Live Play' Playstation advert. This is due to him knowing Drake far before the events of Drake's Fortune, where Elena makes her appearance, and the ease with which his character can be used without interrupting the Main Plotline told in the games.
  • On PlayStation Home, there is an "Uncharted" area that has Sully's Bar in it.
  • In Uncharted 2, Sully is referred to as Victor "Goddamn" Sullivan by Harry Flynn. Later in the game (in Nepal), if you look in Drake's journal and flip through the pages, you'll come across one page which has four mug shots of Sullivan with different facial expressions. Comically, all four of the mugshots are actually the same exact photo, but with marker sketchings over the top of three of the photos to indicate the described emotional state. At the top of the page it will read 'Victor Goddamn Sullivan', with 'Goddamn' written in smaller letters below 'Victor Sullivan', indicating that Nate wrote it in as an afterthought.
  • His weapon of choice in both games is the .44 Smith & Wesson Model 629 Classic. He is seen using the weapon again in the gameplay for Uncharted 3. However, he loses his revolver in every game. In UC1, Gabriel Roman tells him to drop it down a water hole. In U2, it is taken from him by Harry Flynn and Lazarevic's men. In U3, he succumbs to Talbot's orders and drops it off of a tower.
  • Sully has graying temples in Golden Abyss while Sully's hair turns grayer in Uncharted 2, and has a full head of gray hair in Uncharted 3.
  • In Uncharted 2 multiplayer, in The Fort at the middle of the game you may notice a plane fly past referring to Sully's Grumman Goose.
  • Sully, along with Elena and Nate, appeared in Gamers Heart Japan for a few seconds of footage. He wore his Uncharted 3 clothes. This could be referenced to them being the 3 leads in Uncharted.
  • Sully, Nate, Lazarevic, Eddy, Cutter, Rameses, Salim, and Talbot are the only characters to have Doughnut character skins.
  • Almost all Sully's outfits are Havana shirts in different colors (blue, red, brown, dark blue). Only his winter outfit is not a Havana shirt. In Uncharted 3, Sully has a suit and an opened Havana shirt with a tank top revealed. Sully's main outfit in Uncharted 3 is a tangerine color shirt. In Syria Sully wears the same style shirt but in emerald green. The Fourth Labyrinth identifies these shirts as guayaberas, "linen shirts most popular in Latin America and the Caribbean".
  • Sully has been shown to have been killed three times by getting shot during the adventures he joins Nathan on, the first in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (saved by Francis Drake's diary – the diary took the bullet) and twice during Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, first outside the Pelican Inn (although it is only a blank shot with some liquid in it to impersonate bleeding and is revealed as a trick to fool Talbot and Marlowe), and at Ubar when he got shot by Talbot – This is later revealed to have been an hallucination that Nate had.
  • Sully appears as playable character in just about every chapter in the Co-op Adventure for Uncharted 3 but in barely any of the 'Adventure' equivalent in Uncharted 2.
  • Sully's weapon had always been the Wes-44. In Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception he still uses the weapon, but later switches to the Para 9 as after chapter 10 he can't bring it to the city and has to take a Para 9 of an enemy.
  • The Scare-O-Meter, found in Nate's Journal, has 3 levels of fright, the bottom being Sully's moustache.
  • Sully has his own holster where he usually carries a Wes-44. In multiplayer, Sully is given a custom black holster just like every other characters who don't necessarily have a holster.
  • Sully is playable in the side game Golden Abyss developed by Sony Bend. The player controls his aiming for a small section, much like that of the jetski section with Elena Fisher in Drake's Fortune developed by Naughty Dog.
  • Sully is one of the two people that calls Chase her first name, Marisa.
  • The Fourth Labyrinth reveals that Sully has an ex named Margaret "Maggie" Xin, with whom things "ended messy".
  • Sully apparently has a little attraction for Chloe, this is seen in Uncharted 2, however in Uncharted 3, he shows no attraction for her.
  • He is very bugged by mosquitos, as seen in Golden Abyss.
  • Victor's "Goddamn" has become a trademark catchphrase for the character.
  • He is shown in Uncharted 3 to have an extremely good and detailed memory, as he was shown to be able to remember the entire star chart that led to the "Atlantis of the Sands".
  • Sullivan is the best at puzzling out of the main characters as if the player takes long on the puzzles in Uncharted 3 he will give useful tips to Nate and he knew that the secret passage was right under the altar straight after being given a vague clue in Uncharted 3.
