Time is everything. It moves... through each and every... one of us. It shapes our lives. Our... futures... but perhaps, we can shape... it.
~ Victor Timely during his presentation of his Temporal Loom.

Victor Timely is a major character in Season 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Loki. He's a genius scientist from the 19th century and a variant of Kang the Conquerer who was given a TVA Guidebook by Ravonna Renslayer and Miss Minutes when he was a child, allowing him to invent futuristic technology.

He was portrayed by Johnathan Majors, who portrays other versions of Kang, including Kang the Conquerer and He Who Remains.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

In 1868, Victor Timely was at home in Chicago, working on making candles when he heard a noise. When he investigated, he found a package and opened it. Inside was a peculiar book that inspired him with ideas for new inventions. Using this guidebook, he created things like Mechanical Trousers and a Refrigerator Chair. Timely saw his work as a conversation between himself and the book's author, Ouroboros. While he was doing sales in Chicago, he decided to establish his laboratory in Wisconsin to benefit from lower taxes. Unfortunately, he once sold a malfunctioning pair of Mechanical Trousers to a councilman.

Presenting the Temporal Loom[]

Twenty-five years later, at the World's Columbian Exposition, Victor Timely presented his prototype called the Temporal Loom. During the presentation, he spoke about the nature of time and how he believed it could be harnessed as a future source of energy. When asked about his knowledge of the future, he revealed his ambitious plan to use the Temporal Loom to light up not just Chicago but the entire Earth. He demonstrated the device's power, and a bidding war broke out to acquire it.

Ravonna Renslayer approached him, but her conversation was interrupted by a skeptical man from the audience. Timely explained that the device was still a prototype, and investors were interested. However, he declined a partnership offer and proceeded to accept bids. Eventually, he sold the machine to the highest bidder and left some money with Guy Pennyman III.

As Timely tried to have a private conversation with Renslayer, he was approached by Loki and Mobius, who competed for his attention. A councilman demanded a refund for faulty Mechanical Trousers, which Timely tried to explain were prototypes. Loki saw through Timely's con and accused him of being a fraud. The Robber Baron exposed Timely's inventions as fake, causing Timely to flee. He cleverly escaped the Robber Baron by using the Ferris wheel, and the situation took a chaotic turn when Sylvie arrived.

In the ensuing commotion, Renslayer and Timely escaped together. Renslayer's mysterious clock-like device came to life and created a diversion, allowing Timely to get away.

Joining Ravonna Renslayer[]

Timely, along with Ravonna Renslayer and Miss Minutes, returned to his apartment. He showed Renslayer his Refrigerator Chair invention and complimented Miss Minutes on her "ghost" act. Timely asked if Miss Minutes was Renslayer's assistant, but she corrected him and introduced herself. Renslayer then explained that an alternate version of Timely had created the Time Variance Authority before being killed, which deeply moved Timely. Renslayer offered to protect him.

Timely wondered if they were part of the TVA, but Miss Minutes revealed that they used to work together at the End of Time before the TVA existed. Renslayer explained that their Temporal Loom was in trouble and needed Timely's help, similar to what Loki had mentioned. Timely found it hard to believe that Loki could have killed his alternate self. Suddenly, the Robber Baron knocked on the door, and Timely insisted they leave but wouldn't go without his lab prototype. They escaped through a window and hid when Loki and Mobius arrived.

They boarded a boat to retrieve the prototype, and Timely revealed that it was the key to understanding and manipulating time. He also showed Renslayer a TVA Guidebook that had been delivered to him as a child, realizing that she was the one who delivered it. Timely shared a sketch of his Throughput Multiplier, suggesting it could help with the Temporal Loom. They enjoyed the view, and Timely made a paper flower for Renslayer. She mentioned seeing his future and expressed hope for their partnership. Later, Miss Minutes convinced Timely that Renslayer was seeking a partnership. Timely placed Renslayer in a lifeboat and cast her adrift.

Arriving at Timely's Lab[]

Timely and Miss Minutes arrived at his lab, where he collected his notes, and she admired the place. Timely grabbed his prototype and got ready to go, but Miss Minutes wondered why he was in such a hurry. He explained they needed to return to the Time Variance Authority, but she suggested they should keep a low profile after the chaos at the World's Columbian Exposition. Reluctantly, Timely sat down. Miss Minutes worried that he liked Ravonna Renslayer more than her and changed to her default display. She asked if she was in his journal, and Timely said he didn't have one yet but was sure she would be in it.

Miss Minutes explained that He Who Remains initially created her as a chess companion but gave her autonomy to write her own programming. She said they were friends, but he'd never let her have a body. Miss Minutes expressed interest in a romantic relationship with Timely, and he reached for the TemPad to deactivate her.

Renslayer then entered with Timely's dangerous Time Stick. Timely apologized for leaving her behind, but Renslayer asserted her authority by pruning a mannequin. Loki and Mobius arrived and demanded that Renslayer release Timely, leading to an argument. Suddenly, everyone was knocked over by a magical blast from Sylvie.

Sylvie aimed her sword at Timely, who pleaded with her, insisting he hadn't done anything wrong. Sylvie claimed he would do terrible things, but Timely argued she didn't know him and wasn't his variant. He convinced Sylvie to let him leave with Loki and Mobius. Mobius opened a Timedoor, and Timely, followed by Loki and Mobius, walked through it.

Personality[]

Victor Timely's personality is a multifaceted one, characterized by a blend of ambition, inventiveness, and deep emotion. He displays a strong ambition to make a significant impact on the world, as he continually strives to create innovative inventions, including the Refrigerator Chair and the Temporal Loom. His emotional depth becomes apparent when he learns of his pivotal role in the creation of the Time Variance Authority, evoking a profound response from him. Moreover, Timely's romantic inclinations are on display, particularly in his interactions with Miss Minutes, hinting at a potential romantic relationship, although he becomes awkward due to lack of any previous intimate interest in him. He also exhibits a protective nature, as he is willing to ensure the safety of those he cares about, as seen in his intentions towards Ravonna Renslayer.

Furthermore, he showcases adaptability by adjusting his plans when necessary, such as opting to go into hiding with Miss Minutes rather than immediately returning to the Time Variance Authority. Timely's personality is marked by caution, especially concerning his inventions, where he warns about the dangers of the Time Stick and shows a reluctance to partner with others. His cautiousness and protective inclinations can lead him to unintentionally antagonise, as he attempted to abandoned Ravonna and Miss Minutes, but out of a concern for their well-being, instead of true betrayal or unappreciation; however, his stunted social skills made him unable to communicate his good intentions, thus when later confronted, it is too late for him to stumblingly explain his reasoning. Despite his antisocial mentality, his persuasive skills come into play through his years of deceiving investors and when he convinces Sylvie to spare him and allow him to leave with Loki and Mobius.
