Waldo, also known outside North America as Wally, is a well known cartoon man who carries around a magical walking stick which was given to him by Wizard Whitebeard and travels the world. He is the titular main protagonist of the famous puzzle book series Where’s Waldo? (1987-present) Along with the two animated series. Waldo is easily identified by his stripy red-and-white shirt, matching bobble hat, round glasses, blue jeans and brown boots. He hails from the Land of Waldos and he often hides in large crowds in the book series. He owns a dog called Woof and his companion is Wenda. His arch-nemesis is Odlaw in 1987 series and Odlulu in 2019 series.
He is voiced by Townsend Coleman, and in the 2019 DreamWorks animated series Where’s Waldo/Wally? (2019) his younger 12-year-old self is voiced by Joshua Rush in the US who also voices Toby, Bunga and played as Cyrus Goodman while voiced by James Cartmell in the UK.
Biography[]
1987 series[]
Waldo isn't the only one like him; he comes from the Land of Waldos, which is a land filled with Waldos just like him. Waldo is always ready for an adventure with his walking stick in hand, and trusty dog Woof by his side. His favorite hobbies are reading and collecting things from his many travels.
His height is described as "tallish" and his weight as "lightish". Waldo has a happy-go-lucky attitude and is often seen with a smile on his face.
Waldo first appeared in 1997 in the book Where's Wally?. Over the years, Waldo's appearance changed only slightly (see below).
2019 series[]
Waldo is portrayed by Joshua Rush and has been reimagined as a 12-year old. The red on his shirt and hat are darker than is typical, but otherwise he largely resembles his most common design. He always ready for an adventure with his best friend Wenda, collecting Wanderer keys for his mentor Wizard Whitebeard and making inventions. As member of the WorldWide Wanderer Society, he and Wenda traveling the world and learning about its cultures while often dealing with a villainous preteen Odlulu who is plotting to obtain the Wanderer key and take control of the certain location. Waldo is aided in this endeavor by his magical hat, which despite its small size can contain any number of useful objects of various sizes.
Waldo is seen learning to surf with the surfboard in "Hang Ten in Tahiti" and become the leader of Go Hero Go in "Big in Japan". He disguises as a penguin in "Chilling Out in Antarctica" to distract the leopard seals which they took over Odlulu's ice castle. At the end in "A Wanderer's Christmas", he adopts his dog named Woof which he got for Christmas. Waldo and Wenda playing with Woof a game of catch-Woof-if-you-can in "Mad About Madagascar" where Woof accidentally uses the Bouncy-Bounce Key to zap all the animals. In "Shadows of Bali", he also has an idea for Wenda and the others to tag the mischievous shadows in order to defeat Shadow Odlulu and retrieve the Shadow Puppet Key.
He has a song for Woof in "Where's Woof?" that he teach him all that where wandering together and were buddies forever. Waldo buys a taco for Fritz in "Toddle-Lu, Mexico City" to make him brave enough to fight Señor and become the new champion. He is in danger at once in "Mongolia-Saurus" who being chased by a ferocious Tarbosaurus when his plan backfired until he was rescued by Wenda with the Dino Key. He rescues Whitebeard and a calf from the river in "Blue Moon Over Argentina" and introduces the fairy tale characters in "Once Upon a Time in Denmark" where he shows Wenda of Hans Christian Andersen's favorite characters. In "Gibraltar Rocks!", he uses three magic keys to get the Rock of Gibraltar back home and glue the crack with four magic keys.

Waldo is a young adult in 1991 series and young boy of medium height in 2019 series, with a slender build, peach skin, auburn hair, and black eyes.
Clothing[]
Waldo usually wears a white beanie hat with a red cotton ball on top and a red stripe on bottom around his hat. He wears a red and white-striped long sleeve shirt. He also wears glasses, dark blue jeans, and auburn sneakers.
Personality[]
Waldo is a bubbly, gentle, relaxed, adventurous, kind, and cheerful optimistic Wanderer in-training who jumps into the local culture wherever he goes. He is always able to find his way out of a problem and willing to help his friends. He likes to think "outside the box" and always tries to find the most fun way to solve a problem and help others. Waldo is always a step ahead of everyone around him, which often means that he seems to go missing... Can you find Waldo?
