My name is Walt. I work as night watchman here at Fred’s Wax Museum to put myself through criminology college. It used to be lonely until recently when I plugged in my crime computer, suddenly oscillating vibrations brought to life three legendary monsters… Dracula, The Werewolf and Frankenstein. Creatures hated and feared for centuries, now determined to make up for their past misbehavings by fighting crime wherever they find it. Together, we’re the… Monster Squad!

Walter is a fictional student & inventor and one of the main protagonists featured in the 1976 live-action Saturday morning children's series, Monster Squad. He was played by actor Fred Grandy in the series.

Biography

Walter was a criminology student who made extra money working as a night watchman at Fred's Wax Museum. Walter used his time to develop his highly advanced Crime Computer, which he concealed within a sarcophagus in the "Chamber of Horrors" wing. Three of the attractions in this chamber included the figures of Dracula, the Frankenstein Monster (Frank N. Stein), and The Werewolf (Bruce W. Wolf). At first, Walter was unaware that these were not wax figurines at all, but actual monsters that had been kept in suspended animation.

When Walter first activated his Crime Computer, it sent out oscillating waves of energy that awakened the three monsters. The monsters regretted the evil acts they had committed in the past, and sought to make restitution. With Walter guiding them, they became known as the Monster Squad.

Although Walter did not have the benefit of superhuman "monster" powers, his keen mind enabled him to coordinate the actions of the Monster Squad, detailing plot missions, analyzing mission date through his Crime Computer, and locating the secret lairs of various adversaries.
