Wa-ha-ha! Waluigi, number one!
  +
Waluigi is an anti-hero and a supporting character in the Mario franchise, making his first appearance in the 2000 Nintendo 64 tennis game Mario Tennis. He's Luigi's arch-rival (yet occasional ally) and Wario's partner-in-crime.

Waluigi eventually appeared in Mario Kart 8 as a playable character once again. Waluigi was an unlockable character four times, in the Game Boy Color version of Mario Tennis, Mario Golf: Advance Tour, Yakuman DS, and Mario Kart DS. The Game Boy Advance version of Mario Power Tennis was the first and only Mario game that Waluigi is seen without Wario. He also appears as an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He only appears in Mario spin-off titles.
Waluigi is Luigi's arch-rival yet friend and Wario's partner in the Mario franchise. He first appeared in Mario Tennis for the Nintendo 64 in 2000.

  +
Appearance
Waluigi serves as the main antagonist of Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix, one of the main playable characters in the Mario Party series, and is an ally to Mario in the Mario Party series, except for the story mode of Mario Party 3 where he served as the main antagonist. He appeared in the Mario Kart series as a playable character since Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, he also appeared in Mario Kart DS as an unlockable character, and Mario Kart Wii as a playable character again, but in Mario Kart 7, Waluigi did not return as a playable character, but made a cameo in DS Waluigi Pinball.

  +
Waluigi is tall, with a very dark indigo/navy blue shade of overalls (sometimes black), a purple shirt, and a purple hat with a yellow upside down "L" along with orange elf-like shoes and white gloves with his symbol printed on it (similar to Wario's). He also possesses a crooked mustache, a big pink nose just like Wario's, pointy ears and a huge chin, and is rather skinny.

  +
Red Eyes
Waluigi eventually appeared in Mario Kart 8 as a playable character once again. Waluigi was an unlockable character four times, in the Game Boy Color version of Mario Tennis, Mario Golf: Advance Tour, Yakuman DS, and Mario Kart DS. The Game Boy Advance version of Mario Power Tennis was the first and only Mario game that Waluigi is seen without Wario. He also appears as an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl in Super Smash Bros. 4. He only appears in Mario spin-off titles.

  +
In the original Mario Tennis, whenever Waluigi won a round, his eyes would flash red for a second. This is unknown why he does this, but some speculate he is a robot created by Wario. In Mario Tennis Open, he does this again, but only for two seconds this time.

Heroic Deeds
  +
Waluigi appears in the games "Boxing" and "Rain Shower", making his only appearances in the Game & Watch series. He is the final antagonist in the "Boxing" game, and in "Rain Shower", he only appears on hard mode, where he is an antagonist.
* He sometimes foils Bowser's villainous plans.

  +
* He is sometimes willing to help others defeat villains.

  +
Super Smash Bros.
* In the Mario and Sonic Olympic games franchise, he assists the heroes to stop Bowser and Dr. Eggman from ruining the events.

  +
Unlike his brother Wario, Waluigi is not a playable character in any of the Super Smash Bros. games. There has been an overwhelming amount of requests for him to become playable, which has even been noted by news outlets such as The Washington Post, who published an article stating that Waluigi has been "robbed and humiliated by Nintendo", and that "his fans are furious." Several memes about Waluigi not being in the game have been made, and one fan-made video which portrayed Waluigi as a tragic character and showed him finally gaining in invitation after stealing Toad's and being welcomed by Wario has over 7M views on YouTube. Since first appearing as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee, he has been gaining more media in the series, now having an Assist Trophy, an alternate costume for Mario and Luigi, a Mii costume, and three Spirits featured throughout the series, as well as his cap in Ultimate for Mii customization.
* He helps the heroes by defeating Dr. Eggman and Metal Sonic along with Wario to destroy an evil fog machine in the 2012 Olympic games.

{{Quote|This tall, thin, evil-looking guy seems to be Luigi's rival. He works hard at his mischief: Waluigi reportedly spent a lot of time training for his debut in Mario Tennis by honing his ability to antagonize the Mario brothers. Waluigi first appears in the series as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee for the GameCube. His trophy can be obtained through the Lottery once at least 250 other trophies have been collected.

He spent a long time working silently in the shadow of the Mario Bros. before finally becoming strong enough to compete with them in Mario Tennis. Since then, he's had many brilliant game appearances.   +
Waluigi reappears as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii, this time with a different description.
  +
  +
Assist Trophy
  +
Waluigi debuts as an Assist Trophy in Brawl. When randomly summoned from the item, Waluigi will show his strength by stomping enemy fighters into the ground and whacking them with his tennis racket or kicking them with his powerful legs. His kicks are capable of meteor smashing if an opponent is outside of the stage. Waluigi can easily be evaded, but is balanced by the fact that his attacks are incredibly powerful.

Two stickers of Waluigi can be used. The sticker from Mario Superstar Baseball will increase projectile-based attack power by 8, and the sticker from Mario Super Strikers will increase sword attack by 15. The stickers can only be used by Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Bowser, and Peach.
  +
  +
Other
  +
Waluigi is referenced as a color scheme, but only for Luigi.

  +
Waluigi reprises his role as an Assist Trophy, and reappears as a trophy, which can be earned by achieving a score of 85 or higher in Rival Smash. His color scheme has also been added to Mario, as it was previously only available to Luigi. In PAL regions, including Europe, Waluigi has a different trophy description:
  +

  +
  +
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  +
  +
Assist Trophy
  +
Waluigi returns as an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the most ambitious crossover in the franchise. He is as dangerous as always, but he is vulnerable to being attacked and KO'd.
  +
  +
Spirits
  +
Waluigi appears as an Ace (★★★) class Primary Neutral type Spirit that offers three slots for Support Spirits. Equipping him will offer your fighter increased leg strength. His spirit battle is fought on Peach's Castle against a Luigi with a Waluigi color scheme, although the real threat is Waluigi, who appears as an Assist Trophy a few seconds into the fight. When you defeat Luigi, after either defeating Waluigi or waiting for him to go away, the battle will be won. Keeping with the Waluigi theme of the battle, the background music is a remix of the music that plays in the Waluigi Pinball and Wario Stadium courses in Mario Kart DS. The stage also serves as a reference to Peach Court, where Waluigi was first introduced to audiences.
  +
  +
While there are several Spirits of Waluigi in the game, this is the main Spirit of him, which can also be unlocked by scanning his Amiibo on your Nintendo Switch. Scanning him while already having the Spirit will give you another one.
  +
  +
Waluigi from Super Mario Strikers also appears as a Spirit. This time, he is an Advanced (★★) Grab type Spirit that offers one slot. It is essentially a weaker version of his normal Spirit. This time, you will battle Luigi on Wuhu Island, which represents the arenas in the Mario Strikers games. Since the Spirit is heavily soccer based, soccer balls will appear on the stage, which can be used by you or your opponent. Like the normal Waluigi Spirit, this one will also increase the leg strength of your fighter.
  +
  +
Waluigi also appears in the Standard Bike Spirit from the Mario Kart series. The Spirit Battle for it takes place on the Figure-8 Circuit, where four purple Warios with increased move speed and side attack power will try to run your over with motorcycles repeatedly until you die. The Standard Bike Spirit offers the Undamaged Speed ability, which references how wheelies in the Mario Kart series will increase your speed unless you collide with an opponent, and is a Support Spirit, unlike the other two Waluigi Spirits.
  +
  +
Other
  +
Waluigi is referenced in many ways in the game, having his color scheme available to use with Mario and Luigi. His cap also appears as an unlockable hat for Mii Fighters.
  +
  +
Uno
  +
In the Super Mario themed deck of Uno cards, Waluigi appears on the 4 card.

Trivia
*In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, one of Luigi's alternate costumes is based on Waluigi's outfit. The same thing goes for Mario in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate where one of his alternate costumes is based on Waluigi's outfit and in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, when Mario wears both the L Emblem and W Emblem badges, his clothes turn into the color scheme of Waluigi's and there is also a Waluigi costume for Mario to wear in Super Mario Odyssey.

  +
*Player 4 who appears in the remake of Mario Bros. for Game Boy Advance, wears a black overall in the Wii U version resembling Waluigi himself.
  +
*Despite not appearing in any main Mario platform games, Waluigi appears as a playable character in many unofficial platform games such as Super Wario Bros., Super Wario Bros. 2, Super Wario Bros. 3, Super Mario Bros. 2: Wario Bros. Edition, Dr. Wario, Waluigi's Block Land 64, Waluigi Desert Track, Waluigi's Taco Stand, Super Wario 74, Waluigi 74, Wario's Adventure, Waluigi's Adventure, Super Mario Bros. 64 and etc.
  +
*Waluigi's name is a combination of Luigi's name and the word "Waru" meaning bad.
  +
*Waluigi bares a resemblance to Dick Dastardly from Wacky Races. (examples being: big chin, pointy mustace, and purple attire)
  +
* Despite only appearing in spin-off titles, Waluigi is considered a fan favorite by Mario fans.
  +
* While it's never been confirmed on what Wario and Waluigi's relationship is outside of being partners, many fans see them as siblings.
  +
*Although he has only appeared in spin-offs, his main Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is listed as being from the Super Mario series, despite having no appearances in them aside from cameos. He has this in common with Wanda and Baby Peach.
  +
*The Game Boy Color version of Mario Tennis marked Waluigi's only appearance on a Game Boy Color game.
  +
*Mario Tennis: Power Tour marks the only time Waluigi appears without Wario.
  +
* Although Waluigi is not playable in Mario Kart 7 (though he was supposed to appear in the game as a playable character, but was scrapped, due to time constraints), but his track, Waluigi Pinball from Mario Kart DS appears as one of the retro tracks, which makes it the only post-Mario Kart: Double Dash!! game where Waluigi does not physically appear.
  +
*His exclusion from the Super Smash Bros games has become a popular internet meme.
  +
* So far, he is the only member of the Mario plumber quartet who still has yet to be voiced by Kevin Afghani.

Hero Overview

Wa-ha-ha! Waluigi, number one!
~ Waluigi

Appearance

Waluigi is tall, with a very dark indigo/navy blue shade of overalls (sometimes black), a purple shirt, and a purple hat with a yellow upside down "L" along with orange elf-like shoes and white gloves with his symbol printed on it (similar to Wario's). He also possesses a crooked mustache, a big pink nose just like Wario's, pointy ears and a huge chin, and is rather skinny.

Red Eyes

In the original Mario Tennis, whenever Waluigi won a round, his eyes would flash red for a second. This is unknown why he does this, but some speculate he is a robot created by Wario. In Mario Tennis Open, he does this again, but only for two seconds this time.

Heroic Acts

 • He sometimes foils Bowser's villainous plans.
 • He is sometimes willing to help others defeat villains.
 • Joins Mario's team to beat Bowser in baseball.
 • In the Mario and Sonic Olympic games franchise, he assists the heroes in stopping Bowser and Dr. Eggman from ruining the events.
 • He helps the heroes defeat Dr. Eggman and Metal Sonic along with Wario by destroying an evil fog machine in the 2012 Olympic games.
 • Helps Mario's crew beat Bowser in the Mario Party games.

In other media

Amiibo

Waluigi had an Amiibo figure released on October 4th, 2016, which is compatible with several games.

Game & Watch Gallery 4

Waluigi appears in the games "Boxing" and "Rain Shower", making his only appearances in the Game & Watch series. He is the final antagonist in the "Boxing" game, and in "Rain Shower", he only appears on hard mode, where he is an antagonist.

Super Smash Bros.

Waluigi Trophy Melee

Waluigi's trophy in Melee

This tall, thin, evil-looking guy seems to be Luigi's rival. He works hard at his mischief: Waluigi reportedly spent a lot of time training for his debut in Mario Tennis by honing his ability to antagonize the Mario brothers. While it's general knowledge that he's the same age as Luigi, his relationship to Wario is unclear.
~ Waluigi trophy description in Super Smash Bros. Melee

Waluigi first appears in the series as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee for the GameCube. His trophy can be obtained through the Lottery once at least 250 other trophies have been collected.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Waluigi - Brawl Trophy

Waluigi's trophy in Brawl

A twig-thin man who sees himself as Luigi's ultimate rival. He spent a long time working silently in the shadow of the Mario Bros. before finally becoming strong enough to compete with them in Mario Tennis. Since then, he's had many brilliant game appearances. While the nature of his relationship to Wario is a mystery, the pair have hatched some devious schemes together.
~ Waluigi trophy description in Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Waluigi reappears as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii, this time with a different description.

Assist Trophy

Waluigi debuts as an Assist Trophy in Brawl. When randomly summoned from the item, Waluigi will show his strength by stomping enemy fighters into the ground and whacking them with his tennis racket or kicking them with his powerful legs. His kicks are capable of meteor smashing if an opponent is outside of the stage. Waluigi can easily be evaded, but is balanced by the fact that his attacks are incredibly powerful.

Stickers

Two stickers of Waluigi can be used. The sticker from Mario Superstar Baseball will increase projectile-based attack power by 8, and the sticker from Mario Super Strikers will increase sword attack by 15. The stickers can only be used by Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Bowser, and Peach.

Other

Waluigi is referenced as a color scheme, but only for Luigi.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U

Waluigi's trophy in Super Smash Bros
A crooked mustache and a long, red nose—Waluigi has "villain" written all over him. He considers himself Luigi's rival. He's cunning and quick. When summoned into battle, he'll rush the nearest fighters and stomp them into the ground—then thwack them with his foot or tennis racket!
~ Waluigi trophy description in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U

Long, red nose? Handlebar moustache? Bendy body? Yep, this lanky schemer is Luigi's rival, Waluigi. In this game, he'll dash over to the nearest fighter and stomp on them to bury them in the ground. Then he'll finish them off with a big kick or a whack with his tennis racket. Ouch!
~ Waluigi trophy description in the PAL version

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Assist Trophy

Waluigi returns as an Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the most ambitious crossover in the franchise. He is as dangerous as always, but he is vulnerable to being attacked and KO'd.

Spirits

While there are several Spirits of Waluigi in the game, this is the main Spirit of him, which can also be unlocked by scanning his Amiibo on your Nintendo Switch. Scanning him while already having the Spirit will give you another one.

Other

Waluigi is referenced in many ways in the game, having his color scheme available to use with Mario and Luigi. His cap also appears as an unlockable hat for Mii Fighters.

Uno

In the Super Mario themed deck of Uno cards, Waluigi appears on the 4 card.

Trivia

 • In Super Smash Bros.
 • Player 4 who appears in the remake of Mario Bros. for Game Boy Advance, wears a black overall in the Wii U version resembling Waluigi himself.
 • Despite not appearing in any main Mario platform games, Waluigi appears as a playable character in many unofficial platform games such as Super Wario Bros., Super Wario Bros. 2, Super Wario Bros. 3, Super Mario Bros. 2: Wario Bros. Edition, Dr. Wario, Waluigi's Block Land 64, Waluigi Desert Track, Waluigi's Taco Stand, Super Wario 74, Waluigi 74, Wario's Adventure, Waluigi's Adventure, Super Mario Bros. 64 and etc.
 • Waluigi's name is a combination of Luigi's name and the word "Waru" meaning bad.
 • Waluigi bares a resemblance to Dick Dastardly from Wacky Races. (examples being: big chin, pointy mustace, and purple attire)
 • Despite only appearing in spin-off titles, Waluigi is considered a fan favorite by Mario fans.
 • While it's never been confirmed on what Wario and Waluigi's relationship is outside of being partners, many fans see them as siblings.
 • Although he has only appeared in spin-offs, his main Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is listed as being from the Super Mario series, despite having no appearances in them aside from cameos. He has this in common with Wanda and Baby Peach.
 • The Game Boy Color version of Mario Tennis marked Waluigi's only appearance on a Game Boy Color game.
 • Mario Tennis: Power Tour marks the only time Waluigi appears without Wario.
 • Although Waluigi is not playable in Mario Kart 7 (though he was supposed to appear in the game as a playable character, but was scrapped, due to time constraints), but his track, Waluigi Pinball from Mario Kart DS appears as one of the retro tracks, which makes it the only post-Mario Kart: Double Dash!! game where Waluigi does not physically appear.
 • His exclusion from the Super Smash Bros games has become a popular internet meme.
 • So far, he is the only member of the Mario plumber quartet who still has yet to be voiced by Kevin Afghani.
