The Wanderer, also known as Hat Guy and formerly known as Kunikuzushi, Shouki no Kami, the Kabukimono, Scaramouche, the Sixth of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers, and The Balladeer, is a playable major character in the 2020 action role-playing fantasy video game Genshin Impact.
The Wanderer was once the sixth member of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers until he betrayed them after he took the Electro Gnosis and severed all ties within the Fatui. He first appeared in the "Unreconciled Stars" event as the main antagonist. He returns as a minor yet pivotal antagonist in the third act of Chapter II in the Archon Quests. He is mentioned as the main antagonist of "Hues of the Violent Garden" event, the overarching antagonist of the Acer Palmatum Chapter I Story Quest, one of the two central antagonists of Chapter III of the Archon Quests (alongside Azar), the main protagonist/anti-hero of the Interlude Chapter: Inversion of Genesis, and the mentioned protagonist of "Windblume's Breath" event. He made his third "Flagship Event" appearance as one of the six main characters of "A Parade of Providence".
The Wanderer is voiced by Lu Yin (who also voiced Aether) in Chinese, by Patrick Pedraza in English and by Tetsuya Kakihara in Japanese. Kakihara has also voiced Natsu Dragneel in Fairy Tail, and Prompto Argentum in Final Fantasy XV.
Appearance[]
The Wanderer has blue eyes framed with red eyeliner, fair skin, and short midnight blue hair in ear-lenght, with choppy bangs falling over his eyes. the puppet dons a large conical blue kasa hat with golden details with the top part resembling a lotus. A pair of light cyan fabric dangles from the back of the hat (matching its underside), attached with a pair of diamond-shaped trinkets. Accessories resembling the finials of a shakujo staff hang from these strips of light cyan fabric alongsife purple tassels. He sports a tight black turtleneck bodysuit with long detached sleeves, over which he wears a loose white tunic with large furisode-like sleeves in cyan coloration, and a inner cyan tunic. He sports a pair of fingerless gloves on each arm.
Around his waist, the Wanderer sports a thick black obi belt with indigo lining, decorated at the front with a large black bow with indigo tassels that dangle off it, their color paling at the ends. This is worn over a pair of short black golden-decorated hakama, paired with high white gaiters with both legs secured around the top with indigo rope held together with a gold ornament with a singular tassel pinned to it, and black geta sandals. He wears a patterned blue half-cape with various tones that hangs off his left shoulder, where a large gold ornament containing his Anemo Vision is pinned along with a singular gold feather resembling the Plume of Luxury.
While wearing A Wrathful Void, when the Wanderer is in the Windfavored state from his Elemental Skill, certain patterns on his turtleneck undershirt, shorts, and gloves glow in the Anemo-aqua color, just as his eyes do during his burst. These patterns are on the neck, shoulders, chest, hips, upper arms, and hands. Most notably, a tomoe symbol similar to the Raiden Shogun's mark appears on his nape. If superimposed on each other, their symbols fit together to make a full mitsudomoe.
Personality[]
Before the "three betrayals" which changed him and before regaining his memories, the Wanderer is kind, friendly and curious about the world. Right after his creation, he was full of hope and curiosity, yet also sensitive enough to the cruelties of the world that embittered his personality after long enough, filling his heart with resentment and hatred. When the Traveler discovers him wandering Sumeru, he is still pleasant, but haunted by a lack of purpose and, similarly to his younger years, worried about fitting in with humanity due to his lacking a human heart. He also expresses a desire to understand what he has done in the past and reclaim that part of himself. After remembering his past, he takes on a personality similar to his previous incarnation, Scaramouche - having a misanthropic worldview, and a cruel personality. He still have an strong animosity towards everyone, and then, tends to be very apathetic and indifferent, and he is extremely prideful, confident, and arrogant due to his divine nature, driving him to treat everything around him with contempt.
While Nahida tries her best to help the Wanderer see the more positive sides of humanity, he is still rather aloof and cynical towards the humanity and likens his relationship to her as simply paying off his "debts" to her, despite her insistence otherwise. The Traveler still maintains some degree of caution towards him due to his unpredictable nature and former conflicts with him, which he often pokes fun at. He changed his view about human emotions, opening more his mind to accept some of them, such as anger and wrath, which can be very useful as a tool. He seems to have a very sharp tongue, and be very blunt towards others, and he's also very harsh with himself, and everyone else.
Biography[]
Past incarnation[]
Return as the Wanderer[]
After his defeat as Shouki no Kami by the Traveler and Buer, recovering and learning that Dottore was responsible for the Tatarasuna incident, Scaramouche erases all information of his entire existence from Irminsul, hoping to change the past and give those in the past a second chance in life. His efforts however only led to Teyvat forgetting him and his history rather than directly changing any past event. Scaramouche becomes the Wanderer as a result, though his new life of wandering only made him crave a purpose.
However, he realises that removing himself from Irminsul would not change the events that happened beforehand, so Nahida used a back up of his memories that was once inside the Dendro Gnosis (the Akasha system) that the Sages had created to take control of Shouki no Kami from his immobile body as well as deserting the Fatui, giving them back to the Wanderer, forcing him into another loop where he has to fight his past identity of Shouki no Kami. Afterwards, the player is given the opportunity to name the Wanderer, and Nahida orders the Traveler to inform the true story about the fall of the Raiden Gokaden to Amenoma Tougou, among the last survivors of the Raiden Gokaden in the present.
