Quillsh Wammy, also referred to as Watari, is the overarching antagonist of the Death Note franchise.
He is a famous inventor and founder of Wammy's House, an orphanage for talented children in Winchester, England. He's also L Lawliet's paternal figure as well as his right-hand.
He first appears in a long trench coat and oversized hat to hide his identity. He speaks on behalf of L (since he never showed up in person to anyone before, an exception being in the Kira case), and is the only person who knows his true name. He was killed by Rem under Light's plan, alongside L. Before passing, he hit an emergency button that would delete all of L's info.
Watari was voiced by the late Kiyoshi Kobayashi in Japanese the late French Tickner in the anime series and Ron Halder in live action film in English.
Appearance[]
Watari is an old man who has white hair and gray eyes. When he is disguised as L's assistant, he wears a long black trench coat and his face is covered by a hat. After the revelation of his true appearance to the Japanese Task Force, he wears a black tuxedo, a black hat, and a glasses.
Biography[]
Watari made his first appearance during an Interpol emergency meeting, to inform the officers that L will work on the Kira case. During the NPA's meetings with L, Watari serves as the middleman for the officers and L.
Watari appears without his disguise, in a tuxedo, when the Task Force diminishes in numbers and the remaining members meet with L in person. Under L's order, he has to give counterfeit badges to the officers.
Watari is asked by L to never appear in person when Light is around and has to speak with L by the laptop, in order to make Light believe there is more than one L.
During the Yotsuba Kira case, Watari prevents Higuchi from holding himself hostage when he sniped Higuchi's pistol out of his hand. Rem, wanting to ensure Misa's safety, kills Watari. During his death, Watari begin a deletion of all data at Task Force headquarters, as L told him if something 'strange' were to happen to him.
Legacy[]
After his along with L's death, The Kira Task force read a newspaper article regarding his kind-hearted nature and actions, He is also taken up by his friend Roger Ruvie who specialises the Wammy Orphanage, the latter then becomes the second Watari to Near in future cases.
