Appearance[]

Wednesday holds a strong resemblance to her mother, Morticia Addams, and is always shown as pale-skinned and having black hair in braided pigtails.

Personality[]

Wednesday's personality changes over the course of the series. She is originally shown to be fascinated with death and macabre. She is stated to be six years old in the first episode of the 1960's television series. In the 1960's television series, she is more sweet-natured, however, she loves playing with spiders and in the episode "The Addams Family Tree" she gave another child a black eye for saying his family was better, with both families being shocked that a little girl did that to a boy bigger than him. In the episode "Wednesday Leaves Home" she decides to run off after her parents ground her from playing with her spider. She returns by the end of the episode.

In the 1990s film series she shown to be the only Addams who is genuinely mean-spirited, as opposed to simply having a fascination with the macabre. However, she shares the same strong willpower and sense of family kinship as the other Addamses.

In the 90s cartoon show, she is back to being sweet-natured, but with an air of sophistication reminiscent of Gomez and Morticia.

Wednesday in the 2019 movie is kind and gentle to those who mean her no harm, but cruel to those who harass her and bully her. She is shown to be a brilliant scientist.

Netflix[]

Main article: Wednesday Addams (Wednesday)

In the 2022 Netflix series, her personality reverts to how she was in the early 90s films: a deadpan, macabre individual with tremoundous amounts of anti-social tendencies and a fascination for dark subjects. She does, however, show a very compassionate side to those close to her, and stops at nothing to help out a friend or relative in need. One of the greatest examples of this is when Wednesday filled a high school pool with piranhas, getting revenge over bullies that put her brother Pugsley in a locker.

Wednesday fits the phrase "standing up for the little guy", as she has defended those who can't defend themselves, and has no trouble befriending other outcasts and unpopular individuals such as herself, as Wednesday understands their plight all too well. Despite her emotionless and cold nature, she can be very convincingly charismatic or intimidating, depending on the situation.

She is also shown to be extremely resourceful and intelligent, as she is able to take on roles of a detective and find things out that others could not. These efforts were able to get her father out of being falsely imprisoned. Wednesday is also more than capable of defending herself with martial arts, as she has fought multiple men bigger than her and came out untouched. Additionally, she has some skill in fencing.

Trivia[]

  • In the 2019 Addams Family film, Wednesday's braids uniquely resemble nooses. However, she does not have them in the 2021 sequel The Addams Family 2.
  • In the 2019 film, some critics of the film and fans have noted a intriguing queer subtext in Wednesday and Parker Needler's relationship.
    • A similar subtext also found in the character's dynamic with Enid Sinclair in the 2022 Netflix series.
  • Wednesday's name was inspired from the poem "Wednesday's child is full of woe", something which is referenced in the Wednesday Netflix series, as every episode contains a pun with the word "woe" in some way.
  • Via her own account (in the Netflix series) she was born on Friday the 13th.
