Jack Russell is the titular protagonist of the Marvel Cinematic Universe TV Special Werewolf by Night.
He was turned into a Werewolf in the Bloodstone Temple and was thereon dubbed Werewolf by Night, and became friends with fellow monster Man-Thing. After Man-Thing's capture by the Ulysses Bloodstone's monster hunting group, Russell decided to falsely join the hunt to save his friend, and worked with Elsa Bloodstone to stop her stepmother Verussa.
He was portrayed by Gael García Bernal, who also portrayed Héctor Rivera in Coco.

Background[]
Not much is known about Jack Russell's past, but he was afflicted with the curse of lycanthropy, causing him to transform into a werewolf on a full moon. Due to his curse, Russell kept it a secret from people he encountered, and often imprinted on someone during a fool moon to not harm them. He also started to pretend to be a monster hunter to hide his tracks, and Verussa Bloodstone noted that he has killed hundreds of monsters. At some point, Jack came across Man-Thing, a fellow human that transformed into a monster, and became friends with him.
Werewolf by Night[]
In 2025, Russell learned that Man-Thing was captured by Ulysses Bloodstone's monster hunting group, and was taken to the Bloodstone temple in Arizona for the hunt. Wanting to save his friend, Jack decided to infiltrate the hunt by pretending to be a monster hunter himself. Russell worked with Elsa Bloodstone to free Man-Thing, but in doing so exposed himself as a monster. He is captured by Verussa Bloodstone and forced to transform, inadvertently unleashing the werewolf by night on her own forces. Russell spared Elsa and fled, reuniting with Man-Thing afterwards.

- Werewolf Physiology: As a werewolf, Jack possesses supernatural strength, durability, speed, agility, reflexes, leaping, stamina, senses and an accelerated healing factor. He also displays thick fur, bright white eyes, sharp teeth and claws.
- Transformation: During a full moon, Jack is capable of transforming into a monstrous wolf-like creature. The Bloodstone is also capable of turning Jack into a werewolf regardless of whether it is the full moon or not.
- Superhuman Strength: As a werewolf, Jack displays powerful immense strength as he is able to easily fling enemies away from him and bend the bars of a strong cage.
- Superhuman Leaping: Jack's strength extends to his legs, allowing him to leap great distances or great heights.
- Superhuman Durability: As a werewolf, Jack is able to withstand electronic devices of weapons enough to continue to fight. It also took several blasts from the Bloodstone to get him to stand down and be pinned on the wall.
- Superhuman Mobility: As a werewolf, Jack is able to take over many guards in a small room and is able to jump to considerable heights with extreme ease. He also jumped up to the top of his cage in order to break free. At some point, he is even able to walk and run on all fours.
- Superhuman Stamina: As a werewolf, Jack's advanced musculature is considerably more efficient than that of humans. As a result, his muscles produce practically no fatigue toxins during physical activity compared to those of humans. His virtually inexhaustible stamina enables him to exert himself at peak capacity for an undefined period of time without tiring at all.
- Superhuman Senses: As a werewolf, Jack is granted with acute senses, including his incredible sense of smell and hearing.
- Night Vision: Due to his superhuman senses, Jack is capable of seeing clearly in darkness.
- Accelerated Healing Factor: If injured, Jack is able to rapidly regenerate damaged bodily tissue quicker and more extensively than an ordinary human being.
- Sharp Fangs and Claws: As a werewolf, Jack displays sharp fangs that he could use to bite and tear through flesh and bone as well as sharp claws that he could use to rip and tear through materials.
- Werewolf Venom: As a werewolf, Jack's fangs produce a venom which allows him to turn humans into other werewolves.
- Superhuman Strength: As a werewolf, Jack displays powerful immense strength as he is able to easily fling enemies away from him and bend the bars of a strong cage.
- Transformation: During a full moon, Jack is capable of transforming into a monstrous wolf-like creature. The Bloodstone is also capable of turning Jack into a werewolf regardless of whether it is the full moon or not.

- Master Acrobat: Due to his superhuman agility, Jack is highly skilled in all kinds of acrobatics and gymnastics.
- Master Tactician: Jack is shown to be a highly skilled tactician as he was able to infiltrate the group of monster hunters to save Man-Thing.
- Master Combatant: Jack is an extremely skilled combatant, able to fight against a group of guards relatively easily. His combat skills combined with his superhuman physical attributes, makes him a formidable and dangerous opponent.
Weaknesses[]
- Bloodstone: Jack is vulnerable to the Bloodstone, regardless whether or not he is a human or werewolf. It can be used to force him to transform into a werewolf, even if there is no full moon.
- Human Form: Jack only possesses superhuman abilities as a werewolf, but as a human being, he can be overpowered by other superhumans and supernatural beings.
- Limited control: Although Jack has complete awareness of his actions when he is in werewolf form, he does not have any control. However, as long as Jack remembers the scent of a person who he considered to be his allies and friends, he will not attack or kill them.
- Lack of control: Jack is unable to control his transformation into a werewolf during a full moon.

- In the comics, Jack Russell comes from an ancient bloodline of werewolves that dates all the way back to the 17th century.
- In the comics, Jack's birth name is Jacob Russoff prior to him legally changing it to Jack Russell. It is unknown if this is the same in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
