Fire!
~ Wheeler

James Wheeler, often called by his last name, is one of the main protagonists of the Captain Planet and the Planeteers series.

He is the second Planeteer to be summoned in the first episode, A Hero For Earth. He is from North America, and he has the power of Fire. He found his ring after saving a man from a thug trying to mug him. The Ring of Fire shot out from a flaming drum and lands in his hand.

He is voiced by Joey Dedio.

Biography[]

Wheeler is a tough, street-wise 17-year-old grew up on the mean streets of Brooklyn. There, he learned to think fast- but act faster. The oldest Planeteer, Wheeler is also the most impulsive, and he frequently acts without thinking. As a result, he’s prone to making mistakes. Wheeler’s biggest challenge is to become more sensitive to others and to learn that the end doesn’t justify the means. Always ready with a glib remark, he sometimes speaks up at inopportune times. Wheeler may be impetuous, but he has a good heart, and in the end, he usually makes things right.

In the earlier episodes, seasons 1 to 3, Wheeler is depicted as being at least somewhat well off, nothing is said of his family life, although it is made clear that is still very much street wise. These early season depicted wheeler as more of a lazy high school dropout, with the intelligence to match. In these early season he is shown to love to surfing and having with the means to buy expensive items, like surfing gear, and an ivory neckless for Linka .

In the later seasons, from 4 onward, Wheeler is depicted as being a poor, underprivileged intercity kid, with neglectful and possibly abusive parents, superficially his father. While all season show that Wheeler plays volleyball, only the later ones show him playing basketball. These later episodes are seemingly in another dimension as wheeler never shows any interest in surfing or water sports at all in them.

In "Last of Her Kind", he wants to buy Linka a nice ivory necklace, but he later finds out that Looten Plunder had been poaching elephants.

In "The Littlest Planeteer", a boy named Jason steals Wheeler's ring while he's injured, but he finds out that he can't control the ring's powers.

In the "Population Bomb", after a wind surfing accident, Wheeler is had a dream about an island populated with mice that is suffering from over population.

In "Two Futures", Wheeler and Dr. Blight are trapped in a cave. She agrees to send him back in time after he wishes he never joined the Planeteers. Gaia then tells Wheeler that the Planeteers disbanded and Captain Planet doesn't exist, making the villains victorious.

In "Stardust", he insults Linka and Gi's favorite singer, only to find that he may be involved in a strip-mining operation.

In "A Twist of Fate", he is separated from the team. He suffers amnesia from a blow to the head, becoming homeless.

In "Wheeler's Ark", the team adopts a stray wolf pup, but Gaia tells them to return all their adopted animals back home.

In "Talkin' Trash", Wheeler is hesitant to return to Brooklyn, because his estranged father had been diagnosed with liver failure. But he returns anyways, only to find that his old friends had been corrupted by Verminous Skumm.

In "Numbers Game", Wheeler and Linka get married in the distant future. They find out that their old teammates no longer care about saving the planet.

In "Old Ma River", the Planeteers go to India. Wheeler's teammates fall ill, so he seeks the help of a local woman named Lita.
