Whisper (Japanese: ウィスパー Wisupā) is the deuteragonist of the Yo-kai Watch franchise. In the games, he often refers to himself as the player's "Yo-kai butler", offering them advice and assistance wherever necessary. He and Jibanyan can fuse to become Buchinyan.
He is voiced by Tomokazu Seki in Japanese Version and Joey D'Auria for Seasons 1-2 and Michael Sorich for Season 3 in English Dub.
In Yo-kai Watch Jam - Yo-kai Acadamy Y, He took a human form known as Haruhiko Usumizawa. Although he's played an antagonistic role in the few episodes of the series, he only did this in order for the YSP Club grow stronger.
Roles[]
He is the deuteragonist of the first video game in the series Yo-kai Watch, one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Jibanyan) of Yo-kai Watch 2, a major character in Yo-kai Watch Blasters and its sequel, one of the three yo-kai deuteragonists (alongside Jibanyan and Usapyon) of Yo-kai Watch 3 and a major character in Yo-kai Watch 4. In the anime, he serves as one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Jibanyan) of the original series and it’s 2019 sequel/soft reboot Yo-kai Watch!, a major character in the first four movies, a minor character in the sixth movie and one of the secondary characters of Yo-kai Watch Jam - Yo-kai Academy Y: Close Encounters of the N Kind, appearing as one of the two main antagonists of the first half of the first season and a secondary character for the rest of the series.
Appearance[]
Whisper is a cartoony, marshmallow-like white ghost with a black mask-like mark around his eyes. He has blue lips with an upper-lip vaguely resembling a mustache. He has a small wisp atop his head and a wispy tail that constantly billows.
In the Shadowside series, he looks completely looks different than his original form, although he retains his white skin, his creepy grin, and his ghostly tail. He is more of a butler looking, wearing a black butler suit with a pinkish purple bow. He lacks a mask-like mark on his eyes, along with his scleras being yellow with white pupils. He has pointed, elf-like ears and fully defined hands where his fingers are pointy. He also lacks his blue lips.
In Yo-kai Watch Jam - Yo-kai Acadamy Y, he retain his features of having a black mask-like mark around his eyes, his blue lips, and white skin from the original series. He took a form of having a full body especially with legs and ears. He wears formal clothing that represent the clothing that most Japanese teachers wear in school. He also has black hair, where the aliens gave him the ability to turn any victim into Onryo by using a strand of his hair.
Personality[]
Despite talking in a polite and well-mannered demeanor, he has a slightly uptight personality and a short temper, leading him to come off sounding a tad arrogant. As the Yo-kai Whispocrates, he prides himself in knowing all there is to know about Yo-kai, yet often finds himself hastily checking through the Yo-kai Encyclopedia when confronted by one. He seems to enjoy lecturing those around him. Whisper's voice ranges from low tones to high tones, sometimes within the same sentence, thus resulting oddly and comically of speaking. He frequently says "Whis~" in the Japanese version of the anime.
In the Shadowside series, he retains his same personality, but no longer uses "Whis~" as he ends his sentences.
In the English dub, Whisper has a more curt personality and has a frequent usage of biting sarcasm, and has a tendency to insult people at the first chance he has.
Background[]
Whisper was trapped in the Crank-a-kai for about 190 years.
When he was inspirited by Dandoodle in the anime, he takes on different forms of himself, such as Bruce Willisper or Will Smithper, which are references to Bruce Willis and Will Smith.
