Everybody's got the superpowers these days. I remember when a tough jaw and a solid uppercut were all you needed to fight crime.
~ Wildcat explaining his skills compared to superpowers

Wildcat a.k.a. Theodore "Ted" Grant is one of Batman's mentors, member of The Justice Society of America and a supporting character in Batman: The Brave and The Bold series.

Personality[]

Wildcat is shown to be old school type of guy as he isn't into modern stuff like malls and superpowers. He also seems to hate getting reminded of his age whenever he hears the word "grandpa". He shows a strong mentorship as he trained heroes like Batman, The Outsiders and Black Canary. He sees Black Canary as a daughter figure as he promised to protect her after her mother's death. He has also shown to have miss the times when he had more opponents on the ring.

History[]

Backstory[]

Born in a rough part of Gotham, Ted Grant was an outsider growing up. Most saw him as just another nobody from a bad neighborhood. Young Ted had a nasty habit of getting into fights with the others boys and came home with new cuts and bruises every day. With a life like this, it would've been easy for the young man to turn to crime, but instead, he found his love of boxing. He strapped on his gloves and never looked back. After mob bosses framed him for murder after he refused to throw a fight, Ted created his costumed Persona of Wildcat to clear his name. Finding crime-fighting to his liking, Wildcat began a career as a superhero and became a founding member of the Justice Society of America. Ted had many adventures with the JSA, and the group became as close to each other as family. Ted was present at the original Black Canary's death, and swore to his teammate that he would look after her daughter.

Episodes[]

In "Enter The Outsiders", Wildcat has a boxing match with Batman as he feels like no one else wants to box with him anymore. Batman suggest that Wildcat should retire but he refuses. Wildcat joins Batman in his fight with The Outsiders as they fight them but they get defeated as The Outsiders escape, despite being zapped Wildcat still stands as he continues helping Batman. They have another fight with The Outsiders but they manage to escape as Batman and Wildcat argue about each other's methods. They continue tracking their search for The Outsiders until they get captured. They meet their boss, Slug who plans to feed them to mutated turtles, Wildcat admits that Batman is right but Batman admits that he just wants Wildcat safe because he is like a father figure to him and he doesn't want to lose him. Touched by Batman's words, Wildcat taunts Slug in order to challenge him to a fight which works as Wildcat takes Slug's hits and fights back harder and he tosses Slug into the toxic wastes and motivates The Outsiders to change their ways as he reveals that he used to be an outsider before discovering his love for boxing. After this he tries to join Batman and The Outsiders in fighting the mutated Slug but he experiences a heart attack. After Slug's defeat, The Outsiders save Wildcat's life and in return he takes them under his wing.

In the prologue of "Menace of the Conqueror Caveman!", Wildcat teams up with Batman to defeat a dangerous criminal and Wildcat laughs and makes fun of the villain as he thinks it's a puny lowlife without realizing that it's Bane and after Bane turns on his venom, Wildcat sees it as a problem but he does his best to fight Bane. After Bane defeats and tries to kill Batman, Wildcat uses Bane's venom supply resulting the villain's defeat.

In "Mayhem of the Music Meister!", Wildcat makes a cameo as he is one of the many heroes who are mind controlled by The Music Meister and freed by Batman and Black Canary.

In "The Golden Age of Justice!", Wildcat was introduced in a presentation about The Justice Society of America during their last battle with their arch-nemesis, Per Degaton. In the present, the team has reunited with Batman and Black Canary as their guests as they get annoyed that they still treat them as their students. Wildcat sees a stranger sneaking in and with Batman they find out that it's Degaton's assistant, Professor Zee who manages to bring back Per Degaton back. Despite The Justice Society being defeated, Wildcat continues treating Black Canary like a kid as he is overprotective with her but Wildcat reveals that it's because he made a promise to her mother, the original Black Canary who was a member of The Justice Society to protect her daughter. As she learns the truth, Black Canary realizes how much it meant this promise to him but she motivates Wildcat to join the fight as points out that she's an adult and she trained really hard to be apart of this. During the battle, Wildcat fights Professor Zee and temporarily get his youth back until Degaton's defeat and tells Black Canary that her mother would've been proud.

In the prologue of "The Power of Shazam!", Wildcat was one of the many people who got defeated and mind controlled by The Faceless Hunter.

In "The Siege of Starro! Part One", in the prologue he is shown fighting Per Degaton with the rest of The Justice Society of America. In the main plot, he is one of the many superheroes mind controlled by Starro.

In "The Siege of Starro! Part Two", Wildcat is one of the many heroes who got freed from Starro's mind control and one of the many who fought the mind controlled Aquaman.

In "Crisis: 22,300 Miles Above Earth!", Wildcat appears with the rest of The Justice Society of America to meet the Justice League International. Wildcat meets Blue Beetle who is apparently a big fan of him but they fail to bond. Later the two teams fight until they notice Batman's distress signal. Wildcat gets to do the threatening call until Aquaman rudely interrupts him. The JLI and JSA fight Ra's al Ghul as Wildcat fights and takes down Ubu. In the end the two teams finally bond.

In "Mitefall!", Wildcat appears in the end of the episode along with every other character from The Brave and The Bold series.

Abilities[]

Wildcat is a master of hand to hand combat and a heavyweight boxer. He was even able to knock out the incredible durable Ubu with only four blows to the face. He also seems to have an incredible endurance as he was able to handle Black Lightning's electric attacks and Slug's punches.
