“ | No one hits my boyfriend. And no one kills my dad! | „ |
~ Will Solace after arriving in the Tower of Nero |
Will Solace is the son of Apollo the Greek god of Archery, Healing and Music and Naomi Solace, the counselor of Cabin 7 at Camp Half-Blood, and the boyfriend of Nico di Angelo.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians[]
The Last Olympian[]
As part of the Apollo Cabin, Will participates in the Battle of Manhattan. After Annabeth Chase is severely injured by a poisoned knife, Percy Jackson enlists Will's help to heal her. Will survives the battle and become the head of the Apollo Cabin following the death of his brother Michael Yew in the collapse of the Williamsburg Bridge.
The Heroes of Olympus[]
The Lost Hero[]
When Annabeth Chase returns to Camp Half-Blood with Leo Valdez, Piper McLean and Jason Grace, Will greets them, although he's annoyed that Annabeth destroyed the Apollo Cabin's flying chariot in the process. With Leo being almost immediately claimed by Hephaestus, Will shows him around camp and to the Hephaestus Cabin where Will leaves Leo to get acquainted with his new siblings.
Will is later present at a council meeting after the Winter Solstice, absently wrapping and unwrapping an ace bandage around his wrist.
The Blood of Olympus[]
In a dream, Nico di Angelo witnesses a council meeting where Will stops an argument from breaking out between Clarisse La Rue and Rachel Elizabeth Dare over the lack of prophecies, explaining that the entire Apollo Cabin has been affected, not just Rachel. Will doesn't know what is going on at Delphi and Apollo isn't answering his prayers or coming to him in dreams. Will agrees with Jake Mason's comment that if Octavian was his descendant, he'd hide out in shame as well. With Octavian being a legacy of Apollo and thus a distant relative of Will's, Will comments that he wouldn't mind shooting the Roman augur off of his high horse, but Will isn't a good enough archer, being primarily a healer and he wishes that he could use any of his father's gifts to stop the war. Chiron reassures Will that his talents will be essential before the end of the war.
On August 1, Will delivers Coach Hedge's satyr baby, something that leaves him traumatized due to his young age. As a result, despite not being a fighter, Will volunteers to join his friends Cecil and Lou Ellen in scouting out the Roman position and sabotaging their onagers.
On Half-Blood Hill, Will and his friends encounter Nico and Will stops him from using his powers to after Octavian, able to sense that Nico has weakened himself so much by shadow traveling across the world with the Athena Parthenos that doing so again could kill him. Together, the four sabotage the onagers before Octavian shows up to confront them. Will is shocked by Nico's declaration that he intends to leave behind both camps forever, revealing that Nico has friends or at least people who would like to be his friends if Nico hadn't kept pushing them away. Will uses a painful ultrasonic whistle - one of his few musical talents - to incapacitate the Romans long enough for Reyna to arrive with the Athena Parthenos, bringing peace between the Greeks and the Romans. As battle rages between the demigods and Gaea's forces, Will spots Octavian preparing to fire on Gaea with an onager and grabs Nico to stop him. However, Nico decides to let Octavian proceed despite knowing that he will be killing himself in the process and Will follows his lead.
Over the next few days, Will tends to the injured from the battle and Nico avoids him, afraid that Will now hates him and thinks that Nico is a monster for not stopping Octavian's death. Will eventually confronts Nico, but he is only angry that Nico has been avoiding him and not helping his friend in the infirmary. Will orders Nico to spend the next three days recovering in the infirmary which he accepts. Will is also pleased to learn that Nico has changed his mind about leaving for good and that he is planning on staying at Camp Half-Blood.
The Trials of Apollo[]
The Hidden Oracle[]
Six months after the defeat of Gaea, Will is dating Nico di Angelo and he treats Apollo's injuries when his now-mortal father arrives at Camp Half-Blood. Will and Nico spend a great deal of time with Apollo during his stay at Camp Half-Blood and treat the cases of hay fever caused by Apollo's plague arrow that he had used to stop the attack from Nero's automaton.
The Tower of Nero[]
Several months later, Apollo returns to Camp Half-Blood to defeat Nero. By this time, Nico has fallen into a deep depression following the death of Jason Grace and Will is shown to be greatly concerned for his boyfriend.
Will later joins Nico, Apollo and Meg McCaffery in seeking out the help of Rachel Elizabeth Dare and the troglodytes to defeat Nero. Will participates in the Battle of Nero's Tower, working with the trogs, Nico and Rachel to disarm Nero's Greek fire vats and then running off to treat Meg's friend Luguselwa. Will later comes to Apollo's aid with Rachel and Lu, angrily confronting Nero over hurting his boyfriend and his father. Will witnesses Nero's death and helps to treat the injuries in the aftermath of the battle and helps Apollo to prepare for his final confrontation with Python.
Two weeks later, after becoming a god once again, Apollo visits Camp Half-Blood where he spends time with his son, Nico and Rachel. Nico reveals that he believes that the Titan Iapetus, who was renamed Bob, has been calling out to him for help from Tartarus. Will teasingly wonders if he should be jealous before Nico and Will reveal that they intend to travel to Tartarus with the help of the trogs to try and find out what happened to Bob and rescue him if they can. Rachel provides Will and Nico with a prophecy that Apollo doesn't hear but which Will admits doesn't sound good.

Powers and Abilities[]
Will is a fairly powerful demigod as the son of Apollo, although his inherited abilities are much more geared towards healing than combat or music. In The Blood of Olympus, Will himself admits that his powers are mostly for healing and as a result, he lacks many of the natural archery and musical skills of his siblings, only demonstrating a rudimentary skill in those areas. Will tells a gathering of other councilors while looking down at his hands with distaste that "I wish I was a better archer... I wouldn't mind shooting my Roman relative off his high horse. Actually, I wish I could use any of my father's gifts to win this war. Unfortunately, I'm just a healer." As revealed in The Sun and the Star: A Nico di Angelo Adventure, Will has also inherited his father's powers over plague, demonstrating the impressive strength of his powers by giving Nyx, a primordial goddess, hay fever, pulling this off while feeling so weak that "he felt as if there wasn't a drop of power left in him." By humming, Will is able to channel his photokinesis through Nico into his blade to make it more powerful. This suggests that Will is much more powerful than he gives himself credit for.
- Archery: As the son of Apollo, Will is a naturally talented archer. However, in The Blood of Olympus, Will admits that he isn't as skilled in archery as the rest of his siblings since his powers are primarily as a healer.
- Vitakinesis: Will can heal people by singing a hymn to his father in Ancient Greek. Will is a particularly powerful and talented healer, acting as Camp Half-Blood's head medic from a young age. In The Blood of Olympus, Will himself states that most of his abilities are in healing which Chiron reassures him are essential. After getting a zombie infection that is beyond the ability of Pranjal to heal in The Tyrant's Tomb, Apollo briefly wishes that Will were there, although he knows that the infection is likely beyond even Will's power to fix, requiring god-level healing due to Apollo's own dormant godly nature.
- Injury Senses: By taking Nico's hand briefly in The Blood of Olympus, Will is able to sense the amount of damage that shadow traveling across the world has done to Nico and just how close it is to killing him.
- Disease Manipulation: As the son of Apollo, Will inherited his father's powers over plague. In The Sun and the Star: A Nico di Angelo Adventure, Will purposefully taps into this power for the first time to give Nyx hay fever, a particularly powerful feat as Nyx is a protogenos. Will was able to tap into this power for the first time by channeling his negative emotions.
- Audiokinesis: Will can make a painful ultrasonic whistle that can temporarily stun his opponents, making them clutch their ears in confusion. He used this ability against several Romans and monsters when the Romans were attacking Camp Half-Blood which proves to be highly effective against them, particularly the dog-headed monsters who have sharper hearing than humans. Will states that it is one of his few musical talents. As seen in The Sun and the Star: A Nico di Angelo Adventure, by singing while holding Nico's Sword along with his boyfriend, Will can combine powers with Nico, channeling his photokinesis through Nico into his blade to make it stronger.
- Couplets Curse: As seen in The Last Olympian, some members of the Apollo cabin can curse others to only speak in rhyming couplets that can take days or even weeks to wear off. It is not confirmed if Will is one of them.
- Photokinesis: As seen in The Tower of Nero, Will can produce a golden glow, enough to consistently provide light across a large cavern. Since this is when Nico specifically requests that Will glow at the minimal level, it can be assumed that his glow can get much more powerful. Later, when Nero also begins to glow, Apollo compares Will's glow directly to that of his own godly rage. In The Sun and the Star: A Nico di Angelo Adventure, in a moment of rage, Will blasts the primordial goddess Nyx with a ray of light so powerful that Nyx is genuinely shocked and the wing that Will hits is singed, causing the goddess actual pain. By humming while holding Nico's sword alongside his boyfriend, Will is capable of combining his powers with Nico, channeling his photokinesis into Nico's blade to make it stronger. As he does this, Will is stated to burn with the brightness of a thousand suns.
- Leadership: Will is shown to be an excellent leader as he is the cabin counselor of the Apollo Cabin.
