Wooly the Sheep (also known as Wooly), is the deuteragonist of the game jam video game Amanda the Adventurer. He is the sidekick of the title character, who tries to warn the viewer that she is actually a monster capable of entering the real world and in the later updated installments briefly demanded the viewer to stop watching the tapes and burn the tapes, before being attacked by Amanda.

He is voiced by the game's creator James Pratt.

Biography[]

Amanda the Adventurer 1.4 version[]

Wooly appears in the first tape, alongside Amanda, going to the store to get apples for an apple pie recipe. Wooly tells Amanda that he's allergic to apples, and Amanda says he should try them anyways.

The second episode starts with Wooly frantically trying to warn the viewers about something, but Amanda appears and interrupts him, resuming the episode as normal. Wooly gestures not to follow her instructions as she tells the viewer to direct them to the butcher's shop.

Wooly continues telling the viewer not to listen to her, but Amanda forces the viewer to tell the meat man that they need meat, before ominously staring at Wooly. The episode cuts just as Amanda attacks him, presumably to silence his warnings to the viewer.

A dismembered piece of Wooly's corpse is seen on the ground next to Amanda in the third episode, as she stands outside the player's house, demanding that they open the door for her.

In the newer updates, while looking for treasure in the woods with Amanda, Wooly ends up getting fed up with Amanda’s abuse and murderous nature, saying to the viewer to stop watching the tapes and burn them. In response, Amanda levitates before growing claws and fangs to maul Wooly to death.

Amanda The Adventurer Demo[]

In the Demo, Wooly is seen in the kitchen with Amanda and telling how his favorite is peach pie before Amanda demands to make an apple pie. Firstly she gets a knife in order to cut the apples before Wooly informs her that it is not safe, but she looks at him annoyed before turning the facade again where she asks Riley where to find sugar as Wooly points out the possible choices for Riley to pick, once Riley finds sugar, they start to make a pie. When finished, Amanda says that the last step is to bake a pie under 45 minutes and 425 degrees. However, Wooly warns it isn't safe to use it without their parents' help while Amanda ignores him. After the pie is finished, Amanda asks Riley what is their favorite, if Riley answers anything but mutton, Wooly will be okay, otherwise he becomes disturbed while Amanda remains happy.

In The Kitchen[]

The tape begins with Amanda and Wooly introducing themselves to Riley, stating that they are going to make apple pie, he will state that his favorite pie is peach pie. Wooly will be nervous when Amanda holds the knife after the player was forced to type in "Knife". He will say that he doesn't think that they are supposed to hold a knife by themselves, to which Amanda will shrug off his concerns by saying "It's always good to be brave when you're by yourself.", before pretending to be a pirate despite Wooly being scared when she points it at him, as he said that it doesn't seem safe. The tape cuts to another scene where Amanda and Wooly are congratulating the player for collecting the ingredients, despite not doing so when the camera had been cut off in a scene transition.

Wooly helps the player by pointing at the various places where the bag of sugar is. When Amanda said that its time to bake a pie, he interjects that they shouldn't be using the oven by themselves and suggested that they could always ask a parent to help them. Amanda will ominously state that she doesn't know where they are at the moment but happily stated that they are on their own.

After the pie has finished baking, Wooly will wave goodbye with Amanda after she stated that they will eat some pie.

Choices on the tape:[]
  • If the player types in "lamb", "mutton", "human", "organs" or other unconventional ingredients as their favorite pie, Wooly will gasp while Amanda says the pie sounds delicious.
  • If the player types "peach" as their favorite pie, he will nod approvingly.
  • If the player types any type of their favorite pie, Wooly will do none of the reactions above.
Altered Version[]

If the player had found the pause button prior to this episode, they can press the pause button to see a picture of a flaming stove. If the player moves away from the TV after pausing, they can now preheat the toy oven to the right amount as in the picture. The episode will be altered with the oven bursting into flames and he and Amanda will watch on and screaming in terror, ending the episode quickly.

In Your Neighborhood[]

Wooly is seen the second tape that is titled 'In Your Neighborhood'. He and Amanda are standing outside 3 different buildings: The Corner Store, The Bakery, and The Post Office. Amanda and Wooly are there to find a gift to deliver to their friend.

During the Corner Store segment, Wooly stands idly to the side as Amanda interacts with the player, either nodding or shaking his head, depending on what shelf the player chooses.

Once they are standing outside the 3 buildings again, Amanda states 'I want to get my friend a special treat'. Wooly then asks Amanda if he can have a special treat. Amanda completely ignores him and repeats the same statement as Wooly is seen being sad as he looks to the floor, his ears flopped downward.

Once they go into the Bakery, Wooly smells in the directions of the baked goods with the opening line 'Mmm, everything smells so good'. As Amanda begins to speak, she is cut off. The tape glitches out and for a few short seconds, transitions to the Butcher's store, with Amanda with her hands to her mouth, as if she was about to puke, and Wooly standing there, looking at her motionlessly. The tape resumes back to normal with Amanda finishing her sentence and Wooly turns and smiles at her.

The two are seen outside again after visiting the Bakery. Amanda wants to visit the Post Office to send off the package to her friend. Wooly states it's getting late and most of the stores are closed, thus unable to send the package. Amanda demandingly tells Wooly that they have to get to the Post Office to deliver it today.

Wooly is seen again in the Post Office, with a frown on his face. Amanda cannot remember the name of her friend, and Wooly tells her that "We can come back tomorrow. Y-you don't have to send that now." Amanda desperately tells Wooly that she needs to deliver the package. As the player types 'Kate' into the text box, Wooly is seen suddenly sad, head looking down as Amanda celebrates.

Choices on the tape:[]

If the player chooses the wrong building, Wooly is seen either looking towards the floor or shaking his head.

  • If the player chooses the correct building, Wooly claps his hands, a smile can be seen on his face.
  • If the player chooses the wrong shelf in the Corner Store, Wooly is seen shaking his head, arms crossed and hand on his chin with a thinking-like position.
  • If the player chooses the right shelf in the Corner Store, Wooly uncrosses his arms and smiles.
  • If the player chooses the wrong baked good in the Bakery, Wooly changes his position by having a small frown and his hand on his chin, as he looks worried.
  • If the player chooses the right baked good in the Bakery, Wooly does nothing and continues to smile.
  • If the player types 'Kate' or any other name regardless, Wooly remains sad.
Altered Version[]

In the alternative videotape of 'In Your Neighborhood', 4 shops appear behind Wooly and Amanda: The Corner Store, The Butcher, The Candy Store, and The Post Office. In the beginning, Wooly asks if some of their "other friends" can return to the neighborhood, only for Amanda to ignore him. After going to the store to get a card, Amanda suddenly says that something bad had happened to her friend and becomes saddened, unwilling to select a card. After two selection attempts, Wooly will approach the camera and whisper that it's his birthday. When the player then chooses the birthday cards, Wooly quickly assures Amanda that her "friend" will love the card when Amanda tries to question it, trying to keep his birthday a secret.

The tape then cuts to the street, where Amanda seems to remember a birthday, making Wooly playfully wink as Amanda asks you to send her to the candy store to pick up a special treat. However, the candy store and the other buildings are abruptly replaced by The Butcher, making Wooly nervous. Amanda will start to get mad, and later upset, after the player selects The Butcher multiple times, making Wooly increasingly afraid, especially when Amanda begins desperately screaming about being unable to stop The Butcher from manifesting.

This forces Amanda and Wooly to enter The Butcher, where the Meat Man silently stands behind them, Wooly nervously noting that they aren't at the candy store. Amanda laments how she doesn't want anything form the establishment, and seemingly ignores Wooly when he asks her to take them somewhere else, instead once again asking to get her friend a special treat. You can begin clicking meats on the counter to make them vanish, or click Wooly, which makes him angrily state "that's not funny!"- given that you had just implied to serve him as a treat.

After clicking enough items, Amanda snaps and demands to be let out, making the tape cut to the street outside, the four buildings restored but burned and broken, their eyes crossed out. Amanda is holding a wrapped present, and Wooly, still anxious, compliments Amanda on the nice card, asking her to send it to her friend. Amanda then asks you to address the card. Typing in "Wooly" makes Amanda suddenly lighten up and happily hand the present to Wooly, ending the tape as Wooly appears relieved and excited.

Typing in anything other than Wooly makes Wooly try to subtly remind you about him, even replacing his name in the subtitles with ??? if you get it wrong three times.

Oh No! Accidents![]

At the start of the tape, Wooly tries to talk to the Player and says “Oh, it’s you. Whatever you do don’t-“. The screen distorts afterward and Wooly gets hurt by Amanda.

Amanda is shown angrily looking at Wooly for possibly trying to tell the player to not answer Amanda’s questions correctly. She notices that the Player was watching the whole time. Amanda looks at the Player shocked and surprised, saying “Oh no! Wooly had an accident!” According to Amanda, she states that "at 3:45 in the afternoon, Wooly was playing and he tripped and fell".

According to Wooly, what Amanda said is untrue. Amanda then asks which part of Wooly got hurt. The correct answer is that Wooly hurt his knee (as according to Amanda but is not true according to Wooly which seems mostly true) Then Amanda asks, “Who can help when you are hurting?” the correct answer is “Doctor”. Amanda takes Wooly to the hospital waiting for you to help her. The scene shows three doors. The first one is for dental procedures, the second one is for broken bones and the third/last one is for fixing the heart or checking it.

Considering the fact that Wooly is taken into the room for broken bones, it is implied that he may have received an injury known as a compound fracture which would explain the small white part sticking out of his knee when he is on the ground in the beginning of the tape.

Then Amanda takes us to the broken bones room but there is no sign of the doctor anywhere. Wooly then says “Amanda, this really hurts. When is the doctor going-“Amanda then tells that the doctor isn’t here right now but there is a possibility he went missing or got killed by Amanda. After that, she says “Let’s see how we can help Wooly. Which tool can we use to check Wooly’s injury?” The tools are the Heart monitor, the X-ray, and the Scale. The correct answer is the X-ray. At the end of the episode Amanda says “That’s right! Now we can look at Wooly’s bones!”

For whatever reason, the tape seems to cut off abruptly after Amanda finishes that sentence, rolling the credits. It’s unknown if that is a glitch in the tape or the original episode it originated from cut off at that point too.

Choices on the tape:[]

TBA

Altered Version[]

The altered tape starts off with Wooly looking around nervously as he says, "We don't have much time... Do you trust me?". Regardless of what the player starts to type, Amanda interrupts as she says in a slightly distorted voice, "Woooly! Ready for an adventure?" to which Wooly responds, "Amanda! You know you can’t st-" but the tape glitches before Wooly can finish his sentence leaving a frame of a distorted Amanda looming over him while he cowers in fear.

The dialogue then appears to be the same as the original with Amanda still proclaiming that Wooly "had an accident" but afterward, she instead states that sometimes nobody can help when someone is hurt, promptly causing Wooly to break character and look over at Amanda in horror.

Wooly tries to defend himself by saying that he's fine but only Amanda responds that our poor sheep friend must be so confused and we have to know what's wrong with him.

First Choices on the tape:

  • If the player chooses his leg, Amanda will respond - "Isn't Wooly acting strange? What could be wrong?"
  • If the player chooses his belly, Amanda will respond - "Don't you care about Wooly? He needs our help."
  • If the player chooses his arm, Amanda will respond - "If we don't fix him now; things will get very, VERY bad!"
  • If the player will choose one part of Wooly and if it's the same one, Amanda will shove the camera onto Wooly's face to force the player to click on his head as she once again angrily responds with her voice slightly distorted while he looked around uncomfortable as this happens - "Am I the only one who sees what's wrong here!?"

Once the Player (is forced to) chooses Wooly's head, Amanda declares that Wooly's head is "broken" and that "Doctor Amanda is here to help!" and then proceeds to "prepare the patient!" by handing Wooly a cup of milk, possibly drugged and asks him to drink it. He at first hesitates but then drinks when Amanda reassures Wooly that "it's all pretend" as the drug effects kicked in, knocking him out.

We are then taken to what appears to be a bloody operation room with unconscious Wooly and Amanda wearing a face mask and rubber gloves. Amanda tells the Player to choose one of the 3 tools: a Saw, a Hammer, or Forceps. Amanda confesses that she tricked us and that we will just use all three. Just as Wooly is waking up, Amanda appears on top of him, causing a struggle. Wooly pleads for help and Amanda asks who the Player will help.

Final Choices on the tape:

  • If the player chooses Amanda, she will once again knock Wooly out to finish the operation with a bone saw and Wooly starts to lose consciousness as Amanda will state to him comfortingly that everything will be okay before the screen cuts to static with Wooly's distorted screams.
  • If the player chooses Wooly, Amanda will be disappointed before stating that she will finish the operation herself before she raises the bone saw as she tells the player to leave before the screen cuts to static with Wooly's distorted screaming.

Like that, the episode ends.

What's A Family?[]

At the petting zoo, after Amanda and Wooly introduce themselves to the audience, Wooly makes a sheep noise.

During the course of the tape, Wooly will begin to make more sheep sounds, as if losing his ability to speak, being increasingly distressed by this. Later, before Amanda finds a cat, Wooly will be shown acting like an ordinary sheep, hinting that he was involuted (or in simple words, dehumanized) by Amanda.

Everything Rots![]

At his nice picnic with Amanda, Wooly smells something very bad, which turns out to be emitting from a rotting sandwich. Amanda then talks about dead and rotting things, with Wooly unsuccessfully trying to get Amanda back to the picnic. If you refuse to answer Amanda's final question three times, Amanda will forcefully remove him from the area.

Herd of Mouth[]

Although inaccessible in the full game and only accessible to the game's files, Wooly is shown sitting in an empty room at a table with no sign of Amanda anywhere, not even in the intro. In this tape, he sits silently in an empty room and occasionally coughs, yawns, perks his ears up, or scratches his buttocks.

It’s unknown where this tape takes place and people are still speculating what its purpose is, however, it has been stated by someone on the team that Herd of Mouth holds no relevance to the main story implying that it is a tape created for the purpose of keeping fans thinking for no reason.

Amanda the Adventurer 2 demo[]

Wooly's image is seen on posters at the Kensdale Public Library, including one at the children's literature section.

Let's Plan a Trip[]

The title screen for the episode notably features a flickering black space where Wooly should be, leaving only Amanda, as if implying that he has been killed. In the episode, Amanda asks who you would like to visit. If you type in "Wooly," Amanda will chuckle and say "Yeah, if you can find him," implying that Wooly is still alive but somehow removed from the show.

WATCH ME[]

In the beginning of the tape, Amanda is sitting on her bed, sadly telling you about how it gets awfully lonely at night, and how it makes her think about "w-" before she's interrupted by flickering images and montages of upcoming events. It is unconfirmed, but possible that Amanda was about to say "Wooly."

Trivia[]

  • He is a mere parody of other deuteragonists from kid shows who are animal sidekick companions with anthropomorphic abilities, particularly Boots the Monkey.
  • Throughout the game, there are several allusions to the ambiguity of Wooly's true identity, one being a secret message found on a book in the attic that reads "Who Is Wooly". As a result, many fans have come to speculate his true identity, some popular candidates include:
    • Danny McQuiggin: Wooly begins to panic when Danny's name shows up in the credits and it quickly fades away, as if trying to hide his identity. This would also mean that Wooly has actually been placed in the game to keep an eye on Amanda if this is true.
    • Larry Smith: In the Surgeon ending of the game, Amanda performs some sort of brain surgery on Wooly. Some fans interpret this as Amanda, who contains the conscience of Rebecca Colton, playing out past traumas she had of being experimented on. The line that it is "just pretend" is often cited as evidence for this.
    • Sam Colton: Many fans have noted that Wooly is much more mature than Amanda, and often appears to act as a sort of guardian towards her to keep her from attacking the player, assuming that Wooly is in no way connected to the entity. Coupled with this is how Wooly appears to act somewhat hesitant towards his position, most visibly during the instance where the both of them are forced to go into the butcher shop. Some fans have interpreted his times of absence, where Amanda is more easily able to express her emotions, as Rebecca is feeling lonely.
    • The Entity: Some fans believe that Wooly is actually meant to be an avatar for the entity that presumably has control over Rebecca for Amanda's character to exist, primarily because he seems to be entirely absent whenever it attacks the player. Additionally, some fans have interpreted the entity's many eyes to actually be an allusion to the term "wool over one's eyes", due to them resembling Wooly's wool, and Amanda seemingly being blind to her true predicament.
