Xiahou Qingyi is the deuteragonist of the 2016 TV Series God of War Zhao Yun/Chinese Hero Zhao Zilong, loosely based in the 14th-century Chinese classic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms by the late Luo Guanzhong. She is an exclusive character for the series and Zhao Yun's main love interest.

She is portrayed by South Korean actress/singer Im Yoon Ah, most commonly known as Yoona.

Biography[]

Xiahou Qingyi was the only daughter of Xiahou Jie, a wealthy General who served the Emperor before joining Dong Zhuo, who took power in 189. When she was child, Qingyi was arranged to merry Gao Ze, the son of a fellow General and friend of Xiahou Jie. She and Gao became good friends, but she always saw him more as a friend than a future husband.

In 190 Qingyi accidentally met a man named Zhao Yun and his friends. She quickly fell in love with him, which didn't go unnoticed by Gao Ze who also met Zhao Yun and antagonized him on every occasion. Qingyi would also meet Diao Chan, as well as reunite with an old friend of hers, the daughter of Gonsun Zan, Gongsun Bao Yue. Bao Yue would also fall in love with Zhao Yun, which would often cause the two to fight. Despite their differences, they all joined forces to defeat a dangerous group of bandits led by Du Jue.

Unknown to Qingyi, both her father and Gao Ze would plot to assassinate Zhao Yun for their own reasons. Her father wanted to retrieve the two famous swords, the Yi Tian Sword and the Qing Gang Sword, and also eliminate the son of his former enemy. Gao was jealous of Zhao Yun's rising fame and hated him for stealing Qingyi from him. They would both be helped by their right-hand man Cheng Cun. Soon Zhao Yun would be attacked by them causing many of his friends such as Liu Qing Er, Zhao Shi Mei, Zhou Huaizhong and even his master Li Quan to die.

Around this time Zhao Yun would join the warlord Liu Bei, while his enemies would join Liu Bei's arch-rival Cao Cao. Sometime before the Battle of Guandu in 199, Xiahou Jie personally attacked Zhao Yun and got defeated. Zhao Yun spared his life, but Gao Ze secretly arrived and finished him. Gao later tried to gain Qingyi back, by framing Zhao Yun for her father's death. Even though she initially believed him, Zhao Yun revealed the truth to her. Around 208 when the Battle of Changban happened, Gao Ze found them and admitted that he was indeed the murderer of Xiahou Jie. He then tried to stab Zhao Yun, but Qingyi got in the way saving him but dying in the process. Zhao Yun burried her and avenged her by killing Gao Ze.

Later in 209, while Zhao Yun accompanied his lord Liu Bei to Southland, where he was about to marry Lady Sun, Zhao Yun met a girl that looked exactly like Qingyi which confused him. The girl was Ma Yunlu, daughter of Ma Teng and younger sister of Ma Chao. The two would fall in love in the following years, but Qingyi's memory would never fade from Zhao Yun's mind.
