Xu Chu, also known as Xu Zhu, is a major protagonist in the Dynasty Warriors game series based on Chinese classic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms by the late Luo Guanzhong. He, along with Dian Wei, is one of Cao Cao's most trusted bodyguards and earliest followers. After the death of Cao Cao, Xu Chu would remain an active part of the Wei Kingdom. He is one of the few Wei characters to not be malicious or villainous in any way. In the Three Kingdoms series and novel he is portrayed almost as a polar opposite, being highly tempermental, aggressive, and barbaric.
He was voiced by Takahiro Shimizu, who also voiced Zhou Yu in the same franchise.
Biography[]
It isn't known in what year Xu Chu was born, but he was born in Qiao County. He fought in the Yellow Turban Rebellion, defending his home from the rampaging cultists and gaining some fame and notoriety in the process.
He would soon offer his services to Cao Cao who was immediately impressed with his strength and bravery. Xu Chu would serve as one of Mengde's personal bodyguards until his lord's death.
When Cao Pi took rule over Wei, Xu Chu continued serving his kingdom loyally until his death in 230 AD.
Personality[]
The definition of a gentle giant, Xu Chu is very friendly, soft spoken, and at times notably slow. While not intellectually impaired, he is merely a simple man who dreams of a simple life. He can just as likely be found aiding the commoners in their farmwork (a personal hobby of his) as fighting ferociously on the frontlines, where his simplemindedness becomes aggressive confidence and bravery on the battlefield. He is happy to offer his aid to anyone who asks, never raises his voice, and is a loyal, optimistic, and kind man through and through.
