Yae Mochizuki (née Kokonoe) is one of the secondary protagonists of the In Another World with My Smartphone franchise.
A samurai hailing within the country of Eashen (feudal-era Japan), Yae left the country in order to train herself, before she firstly encounters Touya Mochizuki after dealing with a group of thugs within Belfast. After that incident she later joins with Touya's team which initially comprised of Elze Silhoueska, Linze Silhoueska and Yumina Ernea Belfast. She later becomes one of Touya's wives, becoming the Ninth Queen of Brunhild Dukedom as well as the mother of Yakumo Mochizuki.
She is voiced by Chinatsu Akasaki in Japanese, who voiced Erina Shindo in Gonna Be The Twintail. She is voiced by Michelle Rojas in English, who voiced Tohka Yatogami in Date A Live.
Appearance[]
Yae is a fourteen-year-old (later sixteen-year-old) teenage girl. She has dark eyes, and her black hair is normally pulled back at the waist with two little white pieces of linen framing the strands close to her face and a giant red bow. She also has a little red pin in her hair in the anime. She is dressed in clothes similar to those of kabuki swordsmen. It is well known as samurai uniform attire. Pink kimono, dark blue hakama, and a turquoise obi are the only pieces of clothes she is wearing.
An image of a white crescent moon is sewn onto the kimono. Yae appears to enjoy bows as she wears a similar, if smaller, cyan bow on her obi in addition to the one in her hair. Her sandals, which are a little more contemporary than the traditional wooden clogs, are one aspect of her attire that sets it apart from that of a conventional samurai. Compared to the light book and the manga, her ponytail appears to be more dispersed in the anime.
Personality[]
As befits a samurai, Yae is a dignified individual who places a high importance on honour. She is also incredibly devoted to her friends, family, and the swordfighting she practises on a regular basis. She is intolerant of injustice yet, like Elze, is occasionally rather impetuous. Yae, however, is ironically quite inexperienced in love and bashful while discussing her femininity owing to her personality. Despite this, she has a strong bond with her family and is regarded as best with handling children within Touya's wife circle.
Yae is also a noted glutton owing to the energy she expends during swordfighting. In love-related situations in particular, she has a history of stress eating.
Like all women, Yae hates slimes and refused to take quests involves with slimes as well the green slimes that melts people's clothes off.
Abilities[]
- Swordsmanship: Yae, due to having training from her brother Jutaro, is skilled in the use of katanas as her signature weapon. Rarely she uses both of his two katanas in battle, despite equipping both of them.
- Throwing: While ranged attacks aren't Yae's specialty, Yae does seem to throw well and have decent accuracy as seen when she lobbed a dullahan-like monster's head at its body. This caused the monster to be stunned for a bit as it tried to put its head back onto its body.
- Martial Art: Her samurai family heritage includes training in close-quarters and unarmed combat, Yea is very strong and her techniques appear to be jiu jitsu.
- Reflexes: Yae has a higher-than-average reflexes and agility in combat.
- Null Magic: After receiving a mystical engagement ring from Touya, Yae gains the ability to use 【Accel】, 【Storage】,【Recovery】and 【Transfer】.
- Improved Fighting Power: Yae's own "Dependent Trait". Being Moroha's retainer, Yae's fighting power is increased after bestowing it from her.
- Schwertleite: Yae's personal Frame Gear. Its weapons comprise of a Phrasium-crafted daishō, wakizashi and ōtachi.
Trivia[]
- Owing to the astronomical-named theming of Touya's wives, Yae's sign is the Moon.
- Yae has an odd habit of spanking children for things that aren't really worth punishment; something her future step children all fear. Mistaking Regina for a child and despite the fact she is over 5000 years old, Yae spanked her for stealing women's underwear in the Duchy. Later, she even spanks her daughter from the future; despite the fact Yakumo is only three years younger than her.
- The anime omits her verbal tic from the books.
- Yae doesn't try dressing outside of Eashen style often, finding the style worn by the others uncomfortable.
- Because the Mochizuki dukedom doesn't follow the typical traditions about lineage (as to brides all agree to whom will do what with Touya), Yae ends up the first to give birth. Thus while Yae is the publicly lowest ranked duchess, her daughter is the first princess.
