Yagura Karatachi is a supporting character in the Naruto anime/manga series. He was the Fourth Mizukage and the jinchuuriki of the Three-Tailed Beast, Isobu.
As Mizukage, he was the leader and the strongest ninja of the Hidden Mist Village (Kirigakure), and its despot after Obito Uchiha possessed him using genjutsu, in order to make the Hidden Mist Village a reserve for the Akatsuki. His reign left a dark mark on the shinobi world and resulted in the village being known as the Bloody Mist. He died shortly after being freed of his mind control by Ao, and was succeeded by Mei Terumī. Later, he was revived and used by Kabuto Yakushi and Obito to fight Naruto.
He is voiced by Miyu Irino in Japanese and by Johnny Yong Bosch in English, who was replaced by Nicolas Roye from episode 430 onwards.
Personality[]
Yagura was a responsible Mizukage despite his young age. He was granted his position due to having the trust of many people of the nation, but he did not prove capable of defeating the Akatsuki member Itachi Uchiha in battle, due to his Sharingan. The Sharingan proved to be his downfall. After being brainwashed by Obito, Yagura became a cold individual who ordered countless murders and instilled fear throughout the village. He was so lethal that even Kisame Hoshigaki was paranoid about him when Yagura commended him for killing a traitor to the village.
One thing both the real Yagura and the brainwashed Yagura have in common is a devotion to their village. Yagura united the islands of the Land of Water, and valiantly defended his nation from Itachi Uchiha and Jūzō Biwa. While Yagura became very oppressive and greedy after being brainwashed, allegedly stealing from the poor, he was still focused on guarding his nation, but ruled it with an iron fist. He had zero tolerance towards any of his foes, as well as people who acted against the nation, as being a traitor of the nation makes you an enemy of him. Overall, he is very ruthless, self-absorbed, and possessive of his nation, and may have even had some sadism towards his enemies, as he applauded Kisame for killing Fuguki Suikazan.
After his reanimation, Yagura was revealed to be a friendly, emotional, and exuberant person. He was among the first to greet Naruto and express his gratitude for freeing them, and later introduced himself alongside the other jinchuuriki, showing courtesy and etiquette, but also becoming upset when Naruto starts to pity him for supposedly being so young, showing that he is very defensive. He proudly states that he is accomplished for becoming Mizukage, and that he is not weak. Yagura is formal and polite, but will quickly break out of his formality to express his raw emotions. Also, Yagura appears to have a playful side, as he mockingly asks Naruto what it was like to kiss Sasuke after Kurama points out that he is the only person Naruto ever kissed, resulting in a comedic interaction between the two.
Yagura has a lot of pride in his abilities, as shown in his interaction with Naruto, but in the games, Yagura is also shown to have arrogance, as in his victory results screen in Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution, he often mocks his opponent.
Trivia[]
- The fact that he was able to be placed under Obito's control with a genjutsu seems to be a plot hole, as jinchuuriki are supposed to be immune to genjutsu, unless Isobu simply didn't care that Yagura was possessed. He was stated to be a perfect jinchuuriki so unless Obito used genjutsu on Isobu, which he likely didn't, because if he could've done that he would've easily defeated Naruto and Killer B, this has no explanation. That, or him not doing that to Naruto and Killer B is simply due to plot armor.
