Background[]
Yara was born around 2022 on the island of the Seraphites, a religious cult led by the Prophet on the belief of removing pleasure and technology from daily life. Born to a mother who was devout in the the cult's belief, she would later give birth to another child named Lev (born "Lily") three years later. Nothing is known about Yara's time with the Seraphites, but she would was chosen to be one of their warriors to fight against the Washington Liberation Front, another faction that settled in Seattle's quarantine zone.
Yara had a close bond with her brother, who started to question the Seraphites' beliefs as he identified as male, but couldn't do so openly. She would tell him to keep it a secret, but the latter would shave his head, which resulted in Yara slapping him since he would get in trouble for his actions. Yara immediately regretted her actions and decided to defect from the Seraphites alongside Lev, deciding to protect him from their mother and cult.
The Last of Us Part II[]
The siblings managed to escape off the island on the land of Seattle, but Yara was captured by the Seraphites, who brought her to a high-ranking cult member Emily. When she refused to give Emily information on Lev's location, Yara's arm was shattered by a hammer until Lev arrived and killed several members with his arrows. Yara then assisted the wolf Abby Anderson in killing Emily, and ordered Lev to free Abby since she helped them. The trio escaped from the area as infected arrive, and managed to reach an abandoned trailer where Abby set Yara's broken arm. Yara started to fall ill due to broken arm, and she and Lev were greeted by Abby the following day and brought to an aquarium.
Abby asked her friend Mel to perform a procedure to help Yara, and the former worked with Lev to find medical supplies by crossing through the Seraphites' bridges in the city. Yara would survive after her arm was severed, and agreed to travel to Santa Barbara as she knew staying in Seattle would keep Lev in danger. She argued with Lev on the situation since he refused to leave their mother behind, and he decided to steal a boat to convince their mother to leave. Despite still recovering from the surgery, Yara traveled to the island with Abby after dealing with Tommy Miller at the marina. On the island, Yara and Abby deal with Seraphites who are on alert as a result of the Washington Liberation Front's invasion. Reaching Lev, they discover that he was forced to kill his mother out of self-defense, and Yara comforts him before telling him they have to leave.
During their escape, Yara was wounded by a W.L.F. soldier as the faction's leader Isaac Dixon arrived, disgusted at seeing Abby protecting a scar. Despite Abby's pleas to allow Lev to live, Isaac proceeded to aim his gun at the two, but Yara managed to use her last breath to mortally wound him before shot to death by his squad. Yara's sacrifice allowed Abby and Lev to escape from the island, and the later traveled to Santa Barbara after abandoning their revenge against Ellie.
