Yona (The Legend of Zelda)

Lady Yona is a supporting character in the 2023 action-adventure video game The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

She is the fiancée (later wife) of Sidon and the current Queen of Zora's Domain. She runs the infirmary where she helps the victims to recover from the sludge crises which started since the Upheaval took place.

She is voiced by Lauren Mayfield in the English version of the game.

Appearance[]

Yona has the look of a manta ray. She is a light green scaled Zora with a white front with yellow irises and light blue and pink fins, sharp teeth, and has two front horns on her forehead. Her jewelry consists of a matching gold metal and pink gem set as a necklace with pink ribbons and belt.

Biography[]

When the Upheaval began with Hyrule Castle being suspended into the sky by Gloom, Zora's Domain began to suffer from the sludge contaminating their water supply, leaving Sidon to prevent the pollution from spreading any further with his water manipulation abilities and could not afford to leave his place. King Dorephan was also injured after an encounter with a fake Zelda and a sludge Like Like and was secluded to a safe area. The Zoras that come in contact with the sludge often become injured, nauseous, or generally become ill which leaves Yona, Khira, and Chroma to tend to them. When Link arrives, he uses the Splash Fruit to free the statue of Sidon and Link of sludge, which then Yona then properly introduces herself to Link and tells him that Sidon is at Mipha Court where he is keeping the sludge from causing further damage.

After Link meets with Sidon and uncovers more clues, Yona tells Link that she needs the Ancient Arowana to finish repairing the Zora Armor that Mipha made over a hundred years ago and upon receiving it, she is able to finish it and return it to him to allow him to climb the waterfalls. She and her friends head to Mipha Court to help Sidon hold back the sludge as Link and Sidon fight off the Sludge Like. With his fiancée being nearby when the battle took place and fears for her safety, he then anxiously tries to tell her to get to safety though Yona objects to this as she insists that she will help hold back the sludge. As Sidon persists, Yona finally hits her breaking point and sets him straight by telling him that he has not been himself recently and is still mentally stuck in the past when he has a future ahead of him which he should really worry about and tells him that he needs to let it go so he can move forward. Sidon then relents and returns to his enthusiastic self as he heads to East Reservoir Lake in order to reach the area that is causing the sludge to plague the domain. Yona sympathizes with Sidon as he was continuously haunted by the loss of his sister for over a hundred years ago and wishes Link well as she and her friends hold back the sludge.

Once Link and Sidon destroy Mucktorok, Zora's Domain's water becomes purified and the afflicted Zoras are cured of the sludge related illness. King Dorephan and Muzu return to the domain where he crowns Sidon the new King of Zora's Domain with Yona also becoming his queen.
