Yu Nanba is one of the main characters of SEGA's Like a Dragon (Ryū ga Gotoku, formerly known as Yakuza in the west) franchise.
He is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Koichi Adachi) of the Like a Dragon Saga, being one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Koichi Adachi) of the 2019 action-adventure RPG video game Yakuza: Like a Dragon and one of the four deuteragonists of its 2024 sequel Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
In Japanese, he is voiced by Ken Yasuda. In English, he is voiced by Greg Chun, who also voiced Takayuki Yagami in Judgment and its sequel Lost Judgment.
Appearance[]
Nanba is a middle-aged man with black, unkempt hair and stubble. He also tends to wear a pair of black horn-rimmed glasses.
His main outfit of choice includes a cyan denim jacket, gray sweatpants, a green zip-up hoodie, black fingerless gloves, a blue scarf, and black rubber boots. In Infinite Wealth, he is shown wearing a cyan suit with a green shirt underneath, gray pants, and black leather shoes.
Personality[]
Nanba is a logical and intelligent person whose perspective frequently lies in the middle of pessimism and realism. Even though he frequently finds himself following others' lead, Nanba is not afraid to express his skepticism about the plans that the other members of the party come up with, even though his cautions are frequently ignored. Though he occasionally makes snap judgments or appears somewhat lost when not fully involved, Nanba has shown that he is highly capable of deciphering complex situations and finding solutions when he feels like it.
In addition to being a submissive person who would rather work with whoever best suits his objectives than go it alone, Nanba is not particularly interested in talking about himself or his more private issues. Every time his fellow partygoers show concern for him, he is caught off guard because of his generally pessimistic view of the world, which makes him assume that everyone thinks the worst of him, especially after some of his true motivations are exposed. Nevertheless, Nanba continues to be extremely critical of himself and does not think highly of himself in relation to others, which leads him to believe that he is not deserving of friendship.
Even though Nanba is not always the most upbeat person and tends to be quite cynical, he still likes to joke around with his friends and obviously does not like having to be overly serious when it is not necessary. He is loyal to his friends and is willing to stand by their stand and aid them, even if he express doubts about the mission they take and of himself.
