Yui Ikari is the overarching protagonist of the Evangelion franchise. She is the enigmatic daughter of a member of SEELE, the wife of Gendo Ikari, and the mother of Shinji Ikari.
It's later revealed that Yui is the soul inhabiting Evangelion Unit-01 and has been planning to subvert SEELE's Human Instrumentality Project from the beginning.
She is voiced by Megumi Hayashibara in Japanese version. In English dub, she had Kim Sevier in the show, Amanda Winn Lee in End of Evangelion and Death and Rebirth, as well as Stephanie Young in Rebuild of Evangelion.
Biography[]
Yui Ikari was born March 30, 1977, as the daughter of a member of SEELE. Most of Yui's early life is shrouded in mystery, but it's implied she was aware of SEELE's Instrumentality project earlier than most, due to her family's connection to the organization.
While she was a student at Kyoto University, Yui became acquainted with her mentor Kozo Fuyutsuki and her future husband Gendo Rokubungi. After graduation, Gendo and Yui would marry, with Gendo changing his surname to "Ikari", and had a son named Shinji.
