He was once in the past Herlock Sholmes' investigate partner acting as the Dr. Watson of the Duo. He was one of 3 Japanese exchange students sent to London. He during that time worked as an Assistant coroner to Dr. John H. Wilson which is where he met his Good Friend Herlock Sholmes.
History[]
After the passing of his wife, Mikotoba made the difficult decision to leave his daughter Susato in the care of her grandmother and embark on a journey to England. Accompanied by Genshin Asogi and Seishiro Jigoku, he went there to pursue further studies. In England, Mikotoba found employment at St. Synner's Hospital, working alongside John Wilson and his assistant Courtney Sithe. He also became roommates with the renowned detective Herlock Sholmes, and the two formed a formidable investigative partnership. Mikotoba diligently recorded their adventures and stored the records in a chest in Sholmes' flat.
During the secret trial of a notorious criminal known as the Professor, Mikotoba participated as the first assistant in the autopsy of Klint van Zieks. He was responsible for writing the autopsy report, although he had reservations about its findings. Despite his doubts, Mikotoba faithfully recorded John Wilson's discoveries, such as the presence of Genshin Asogi's ring in the stomach of Klint van Zieks. These findings played a crucial role in Asogi's conviction as the Professor. The revelation that his friend Asogi was the infamous serial killer shocked Mikotoba. He firmly believed that Asogi was incapable of such heinous acts, and he tried to advocate for his innocence alongside their fellow student Jigoku. Unfortunately, their efforts proved unsuccessful. Asogi refused to deny the charges and prevented Mikotoba and Jigoku from petitioning the government. The damning evidence from Klint van Zieks' autopsy and the testimony of witnesses sealed Asogi's fate.
On the eve of Asogi's execution, he asked Mikotoba for one final favor. Asogi instructed him to visit a specific address where a noblewoman in hiding needed assistance in giving birth. Mikotoba was sworn to secrecy and obliged his friend's request. He arrived at the secluded home and found the noblewoman in a weakened state, about to give birth. Despite his best efforts, Mikotoba couldn't save the woman, who turned out to be Lady Baskerville, Klint van Zieks' wife. Overwhelmed with grief, Mikotoba noticed an exquisitely crafted trunk with the Baskerville family crest, realizing that the baby he helped deliver was the child of Klint van Zieks. He named the baby Iris after his late wife and entrusted her to Herlock Sholmes' care.
A month after Asogi's execution, Mikotoba returned to Japan. Bound by his promise to keep the child's parentage a secret, he couldn't bring Iris with him without revealing the truth. Unable to care for her himself, Mikotoba turned to his close friend Sholmes and entrusted him with the responsibility of being Iris' father figure. Before departing, he informed Kazuma Asogi and Genshin Asogi's wife that their loved ones had passed away due to illness. The news devastated Genshin Asogi's wife, leading to her own demise and leaving Kazuma orphaned. Mikotoba took in Kazuma as his adoptive son, raising him alongside Susato. He supported their individual paths, with Kazuma becoming a lawyer and Susato becoming a judicial assistant, dedicated to assisting Kazuma. Mikotoba facilitated their study abroad in Great Britain, arranging for their education. At one point, Sholmes sent Mikotoba a box containing Iris' transcript of "The Hound of Baskervilles." Susato caught a glimpse of the box before Mikotoba reprimanded her, urging her to forget what she had seen.
