Together with Taiju, she became part of the Tsukasa Empire. They initially served as spies for the Kingdom of Science, which later emerged victorious and united both factions. Afterward, they continued to be essential members of the Kingdom's team, including aiding in the Kingdom of Science's venture to Treasure Island.
She is voiced in Japanese by Kana Ichinose, and by Brittany Lauda (who also voices Ichigo in DARLING in the Franxx, Riko in Made in Abyss, Foo Fighters in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean and Chiori in Genshin Impact) in English.
Biography[]
Pre-Petrification[]
Yuzuriha makes her initial appearance on the school premises, where Taiju was on the verge of expressing his romantic feelings for her. It's evident that she may have suspected his intentions, as she blushed in anticipation. However, their moment was interrupted by a sudden global phenomenon where a mysterious light petrified all of humanity into statues. In a later scene, she appears in Taiju's recollection, reminiscing about the time they together took petrified birds to a care center.
Vs. Tsukasa Arc[]
After 3,700 years, Yuzuriha finally returns to normal thanks to the Revival Fluid created by Senku and Taiju. Soon after her revival, her reunion with Taiju is interrupted by Senku, who asks them to make a choice: either live a normal life or join him in a fight against Tsukasa.
Before Yuzuriha can learn about the situation from Senku or Taiju, Tsukasa arrives and threatens Taiju with Yuzuriha's life. Taiju appears to fall unconscious, and Tsukasa advises them to leave Taiju alone and protect Yuzuriha, comparing it to Taiju's selfless protection of the statues. Yuzuriha and Senku remark on Tsukasa's incredible strength, and Yuzuriha is surprised by how quickly Taiju recovers.
Together, Yuzuriha, Taiju, and Senku journey to Hakone to gather materials for making gunpowder. While navigating, Yuzuriha notices an unusual gap in the tree line, leading them to the discovery of the Great Buddha of Kamakura. The statue helps them pinpoint their location, but it also triggers nostalgic memories for Yuzuriha, making her realize the extent of the time that has passed. Despite the emotional moment, they reach their destination at Hakone's hot springs.
As they prepare gunpowder, Yuzuriha worries that Taiju's use of a boulder might cause sparks, but Senku reassures her that the boulder must contain iron for that to happen. However, it does explode due to the iron content, leading to a quick evacuation. Yuzuriha questions Senku's intentions of using gunpowder and is concerned about attacking Tsukasa. When they spot a smoke signal in the distance, they debate whether it's a trap but ultimately decide to light it themselves.
While gathering wood for a campfire, Yuzuriha is suddenly taken hostage by Tsukasa. Tsukasa threatens to kill her unless Senku reveals the revival formula, and Yuzuriha pleads with Senku not to give in, fearing the consequences if he dies. Senku ultimately shares the formula, and Tsukasa makes an offer that Senku can't accept. Yuzuriha calls out for Taiju. Yuzuriha witnesses Senku's apparent murder by Tsukasa after Senku refuses to comply with Tsukasa's demands. A distressed Taiju assures Yuzuriha that Senku wouldn't sacrifice himself and believes that everything will work out.
Later, Yuzuriha and Taiju successfully thwart Tsukasa's attack with an explosion and mourn Senku's supposed sacrifice. Taiju explains that Senku likely had a plan to save everyone. As the storm subsides, Yuzuriha and Taiju are relieved by Senku's awakening. Yuzuriha treats Senku's neck injury, which surprisingly heals quickly. They discuss reassembling the petrified statues and decide to join Tsukasa's empire as spies, with Senku's support. When Senku departs for his own mission, Yuzuriha is surprised by the speed of their farewell with Taiju, who rushes back to the cliff to bid Senku farewell.
Communications Arc[]
They establish communication with Senku using a phone he constructs after a year of separation. Yuzuriha and Taiju convince Nikki Hanada to join their cause, despite Nikki's peculiar habit of hitting Taiju every fourth word. Nikki eventually talks to Senku and decides to defect. With Nikki on their side, they gather more allies, including Ukyo. Ukyo has also learned that Yuzuriha has been fixing broken statues under Senku's guidance. Upon reuniting with Senku after a year apart, Yuzuriha meets his friends from Ishigami Village for the first time. Following the war, she starts repairing damaged statues with the assistance of Yo Uei, who is seeking redemption.
Age of Exploration Arc[]
Upon Gen's suggestion, Yuzuriha takes on the task of recreating cloth, initially nervous but later excited by the challenge. Her success leads to the opening of a clothing store, catering to both modern and primitive people. Even Ryusui Nanami, who makes several purchases, falls into Senku's scheme. Yuzuriha then helps create material for a hot air balloon, but Gen tricks Ryusui into taking his place on the balloon, leaving Yuzuriha uneasy about Gen's manipulative ways. Later, she's put in charge of the farming field, and Gen announces a hat as a prize for the farm king. Yuzuriha recognizes Gen's game but believes only Magma and Yo would fall for it. Surprisingly, Taiju wins the hat instead.
Treasure Island Arc[]
Yuzuriha, aboard the Perseus, inquires about the ship's functionality. While some warn her, others eagerly answer her question. She mentions sitting through a five-hour lecture by Senku on rockets, surprising the others with her knowledge. Later, Yuzuriha and the Perseus crew are petrified by Kirisame and her group for trespassing. Senku eventually revives her, and she helps repair the petrified humans with her sewing skills. When Senku creates a gun as a last resort against Moz, Yuzuriha recalls him making gunpowder and is relieved when Senku assures it won't harm anyone. She witnesses Yo being revived to wield it. During the battle, she plays a crucial role in piecing together and revealing the true state of the Petrification Kingdom to the island. However, she is petrified again by Ibara but is later revived by Senku after the battle. She joins in the celebration before receiving a transmission from the Why-man, shocked to hear Senku's voice.
Appearance[]
Yuzuriha is a young woman with brown hair, brown eyes, and a slender figure. She has two spiral-shaped petrification scars on her shoulder and neck. Before being petrified, Yuzuriha wore a typical high school uniform. After her revival, she dresses in a white split-side cloth dress and matching cloth shoes. She also sports a white hairband that resembles wrap-around headphones.
Her long hair is cut to a shoulder-length bob after an encounter with Tsukasa. However, after her second revival, her scars vanish, and she starts wearing war paint to mirror her stone markings during Tsukasa's revival.
In the epilogue timeskip, her hair regrows to its original length.
Personality[]
Yuzuriha is a kind and compassionate person who goes out of her way to assist her friends and even strangers whenever possible. She often uses her exceptional crafting skills to help Senku with his inventions and to restore petrified humans. She shares a deep loyalty to Senku, rooted in their childhood friendship, and is willing to make personal sacrifices to protect him, as seen when she becomes a hostage for Senku's escape from Tsukasa.
While her romantic feelings for Taiju are hinted at, she waits for him to officially confess. Yuzuriha possesses unwavering determination and faith, refusing to believe that Senku is dead and eventually discovering a way to revive him, alongside Taiju. Although reserved and somewhat quiet, she remains focused and composed, especially in dangerous or unpredictable situations. She's known for her patience, carefully collecting stone fragments from statues destroyed by Tsukasa and painstakingly reconstructing them in the hopes of reviving the petrified people. Her intelligence is evident, as she quickly sees through schemes, such as Senku and Gen's ruse with Nikki, showcasing her astute comprehension.
Yuzuriha's passion lies in crafts, particularly textiles, including felting, sewing, spinning thread, and weaving. She collaborates with Kaseki, despite their different craft specialties. Yuzuriha's love for fashion is also evident, as she takes great delight in creating clothing and even opens a clothing store for people from both the modern and stone worlds, who appreciate her skills.
Skills[]
- Master Tailoring: Yuzuriha excels in tailoring, displaying extraordinary sewing and crafting skills, particularly in reassembling shattered stone statues using primitive adhesive. Her craftsmanship extends to creating leatherwork and designing the Kingdom of Science's flag. Her crafting style is described as rapid and focused, earning her the nickname "wild beast."
- Intelligence: While not on par with Senku's intellect, Yuzuriha possesses above-average intelligence. She can quickly spot deception, as seen when she detected Senku's lie during a telephone call with the Tsukasa Empire. She also absorbed extensive scientific knowledge from Senku's lengthy lectures, a challenging feat for most individuals. Yuzuriha's discerning nature allows her to identify manipulation, such as Gen's deceit involving Yo and Magma's leadership promises.
- Mental Resilience: Yuzuriha's mental resilience is remarkable. After the Second Petrification, she remained conscious for eight years until her revival, demonstrating her unwavering determination. She adopted Senku's strategy of maintaining consciousness while petrified and accurately tracked the passage of time.
