The Thunderbolt (Yz) is a fictional character appearing in comics published by DC Comics and the name of other fictional genie variants within the 5th Dimension as well. Yz was originally portrayed as a genie-like character who hosts Johnny Thunder and Jakeem Thunder. He is a little brother of Djinn and was an original member of the Justice Society of America.
Jim Gaffigan and Seth Green each voiced the character in The CW television show Stargirl.
Origins[]
Yz, a Djinn created by The Presence before the angels, joined his brother Elias and sister Djinn in defying God's will. They refused to harm children guarding the Stone of Souls, angering Elias. He punished them, forcing Djinn to hand over the Stone, which he hid in the Fifth Dimension. There, Yz became friends with the Imp Mister Mxyzptlk and introduced him to his first wife.
World War Two
In the 1930s and 40s, Yz teamed up with Johnny Thunder and joined the Justice Society of America (JSA). During this time, they rescued a future Huntress, but she vanished before they could learn more.
Modern Age
Years later, Yz and Johnny fused into a single being, becoming a partner to Jakeem Thunder, who later joined the JSA. Yz reconnected with old friends like Mister Mxyzptlk to fight the Doom-Mite, and with the help of Batman and Superman, they succeeded.
Doomsday Clock
Doctor Manhattan’s interference erased the Golden Age from history, causing Johnny to forget his fusion with Yz and end up in a retirement home. With Superman’s help, Manhattan restored history, which also revived Johnny’s memory and transformed him back into Thunderbolt to aid in stopping a global superhuman conflict.
Djinn Wars
Elias returned, took control of Djinn, and used her to summon Yz. Elias overpowered Yz and used him to steal the Stone of Souls and breach Heaven. Jakeem Thunder and the Teen Titans, after rescuing Djinn from Purgatory, stormed Heaven, defeated Elias, and freed all the Djinns. Djinn, Yz, and Jakeem then sought answers about their connections.
The New Golden Age
In the wake of the Lazarus Event, Yz resurrected Doctor Mid-Nite and Wildcat. Later, he and Jakeem fought the Angle Man’s Bizarro army and were saved by the time-traveling Huntress. When Per Degaton attacked the JSA, Yz and Jakeem were neutralized but rescued again by Huntress. They later went to Germany to retrieve an item from Degaton, defeating a younger version of the villain with the aid of time-traveling Doctor Fates.

Flight: Yz can soar through the air, making him incredibly agile and hard to catch.
Phasing: He has the power to pass through solid objects and people, allowing him to bypass barriers and defenses.
Electrokinesis: Known as the Thunderbolt, Yz can generate and control lightning. His electrical powers are so potent that he can even electrify beings like Black Adam, who also wields magical lightning.
Electro-Blast: Yz can unleash powerful bursts of electricity from his hands, capable of causing significant damage.
