Zafiro is a red-skinned gargoyle and a member of the Mayan Clan. He is the only surviving member of the Mayan Clan with white hair, also based on a reptilian. He is based on a snake. He is a supporting character in the episode "The Green".

Zafiro is based on a snake and has hawk (or hoatzin) wings. He has white hair.
History[]
The Green[]
Zafiro and Obsidiana are seen trying to lift a bulldozer, but he and Obsidiana are captured by Jackal and Hyena. Goliath, Angela, Bronx, and Elisa were able to free him and Obsidiana caught in a hunter's net. As Bronx has an infected scratch on his paw, Zafiro replied that the scratch will be infected without any medicine for six hours. He talks to Goliath about meeting more clan members at the Mayan pyramid and about the story of why the clan is sitting at the top of the pyramid day and night.
As Jade and Turquesa thought there were intruders, Zafiro halts them and says that the Manhattan Clan isn't dangerous. He gives out a grief to Goliath and Angela about the story of his clan and why the rest of his clan is destroyed. The next day, Zafiro is taking Elisa to find where the medicine is coming from. When two lumberjacks (a father and son) are chopping down a tree, Zafiro jumps towards them and grabs the father's axe then roars at them. Elisa reveals that the lumberjacks are actually farmers and without and chopped down trees, there will be no food. Zafiro and Obsidiana return to the jungle when the lumberjacks are shooting at Goliath and Angela.
When fighting against Jackal and Hyena and Angela rescues Obsidiana (telling her to save the trees), Zafiro agrees with her thought. Zafiro is surprised that Jackal and Hyena are destroying some of the trees. He, Goliath, Angela, Obsidiana, and Bronx arrive back the pyramid with Jade, Turquesa, and Angela. Jade is prompting the group to remove the brush fire caused by Jackal. After the fire is extinguished, the sun rises towards Guatemala.
As Elisa is immobilized by Jackal, he and Jade are seen attacking him. The rogue maniac was knocked back to his home. Zafiro later talks to Elisa about why it is difficult to protect the forests in later years.

Zafiro and Obsidiana appear in the crossover between Gargoyles and The Spectacular Spider-Man. Spider-Man sees him and Obsidiana fighting two men from a van and he thought the two are monsters.
Trivia[]
- Zafiro was voiced by Hector Elizondo, who also voiced LeFou in Beauty and the Beast in English.
- A descendant of Zafiro and Obsidiana was supposed to occur in Gargoyles 2198, but was scrapped.
