Zeb is a minor character in the Spy × Family series, being a supporting character in the Cruise Adventure Arc. He's Olka Gretcher's trusted right-hand man and childhood friend who helps her get into political hiding to escape Leonardo Hapoon's band of assassins. Aboard the Princess Lorelei Cruise, he goes under the alias of Furseal Grey and takes the role of Olka's (now named "Shaty Grey") fake husband.

In the anime, he was voiced by Junta Terashima, who also voiced Shin Ichijou in King of Prism by Pretty Rhythm in Japnese and Josh Bangle in English.

Appearance[]

Zeb is a well-built man of average height and purple eyes who's usually seen dressed in fancy tailored suits. As Furseal Grey he sports a slicked-back blonde hair, but as seen in flashbacks, his hair is naturally maroon.

Personality[]

Zeb is a kind-hearted, but cowardly man who's extremely loyal to Olka Gretcher, being grateful to her due to her act of kindness as a kid that sparked their friendship. He's shown to be extremely fearful of any potential threat and prefers to avoid conflict as much as he can. Despite this, he's shown to be extremely selfless and willing to set aside his cowardice put his life on the line for the sake of others, showcased when he jumped in front of Olka and Gram after an assassin shot them, taking the bullets to his back. Zeb also has a not so obvious crush on Olka, to which she seems oblivious to. It can be assumed Zeb put aside his attraction to her for a very long time as she was married prior to the Hapoon takeover of the Gretcher Criminal Empire.

Young Olka and Zeb — A young Zeb meets Olka

Not much is known about Zeb's past, except for the fact his family was a victim of the devastation of the Westalian-Ostanian war and grew up in poverty. He recalls that the black market of food organized by the Gretcher Family helped his family during the times of crisis. On one fateful day, Zeb as a child, met the Gretcher's daughter, Olka, who offered him a piece of bread from behind her parents' back. This would lead to Zeb becoming extremely grateful to her, sparking the two's lifelong friendship. Zeb would eventually also develop feelings for Olka, but never confessed to her as she would later on get married and have a son named after her father, Gram.

After an internal conflict that led to the deaths of all Gretcher Family members save for Olka and her son, the gangster Leonardo Hapoon took over the criminal empire and started cozying himself up to pro-war extremists. Zeb, despite this, remained loyal to Olka and after finding out Hapoon placed a bounty on her and her son's head, he helped her get political asylum and contracted the services of The Garden to protect her.

Spy x Family[]

In the first-class suite, Matthew McMahon introduces himself as the Director of Policy at Berlint City Hall and two bureaucrats from their business development team, Heymann and Vides, including Yor. Zeb introduces himself "Furseal Grey" from Arhaus Department Stores and Olka as his wife, "Shaty." Furseal observes that Yor must be Olka's assigned bodyguard and worries if she can protect Olka after seeing her her slim appearance, but Matthew assures him that Yor is strong.

he city hall group and the Grey family have dinner at a fancy restaurant. While the group chats about how good the food is, Yor and Furseal fidget around, too nervous to taste anything. After dinner, the men head down to the lower deck for drinks while Yor escorts Olka and Gram back to their room.

Nearby, Zeb, Matthew, and the other men walk around after drinking at the bar. Matthew suddenly excuses himself for a moment and quickly takes Zeb away upon returning, informing him that Olka's information has circulated among their assassin pursuers. Because of the secrecy of the operation, there is no way the information could have leaked, so Matthew asks Zeb if he made any contact with the outside world while hiding. Zeb mentions the phone call he made to his parents but swears that he did not tell them anything important.

Matthew and Zeb arrive at the room, where an assassin has already made his attack. After Matthew catches the assassin's attention, the assassin aims at him Matthew and Zeb, but Yor hurls her weapon through the door and pins his head to the wall, killing him. After retrieving the corpse, Matthew informs the group that the itinerary got leaked and there are multiple enemies aboard the ship. He directs Yor to take Zeb, Olka, and Gram to a vacant room in the second-class suite while he covers up the mess. He forewarns her that the ship might return to port if there is a public incident and recommends she avoid fighting to prevent that. After receiving domino masks to disguise themselves, Yor, Olka, Zeb, and Gram leave for the second deck lounge.

After arriving at their new room, Yor assures the group that it is secure and has everything they need to hole up safely until the rendezvous. Zeb notices Olka and Gram are visibly shaken, so he exclaims how scared he was to calm them down, and his attempt succeeds, although at his expense. Olka asks Zeb why he came with them instead of joining the gang's new boss. Zeb explains that it is because he owes a lot to the previous boss and recalls what Olka and her family have done for him. Zeb remembers it fondly and says it is all the reason he needs to be with her. Zeb promises to protect Olka from harm but relapses when he hears a knock on the door and quickly hides behind Olka. Behind the door is Matthew, who tells the two to rest while he whittles down the enemy numbers. Zeb is baffled by how composed the assassins are and says that despite the war officially ending over a decade ago, war is still around. Matthew replies that as long as people are the way they are, the fighting will never stop and that he and Yor are soldiers fighting for their country.

Standing by a radio, Matthew receives a transmission and calls Olka's room. Yor answers the phone and informs the others that they got the all-ready signal from the ship at the rendezvous. While it will be in four hours, Yor tells Olka and Zeb to prepare and change into their disguises. After seeing that the coast is clear, Yor, Olka, Gram, and Zeb head out.

As the fireworks show is about to commence, the group walks through the halls of the ship. Yor says their destination is Storage Area 3 and explains the plan to get Olka and Zeb off the boat and to the rendezvous ship, hoping to proceed during the fireworks show, but the show starts, and the group is startled by the sudden noise. After calming down, they continue onward. From above, a sniper watches them and prepares to shoot Olka as another firework goes off. Yor quickly grabs Olka out of the way but gets grazed by the shot. Yor asks Olka and Zeb if they are alright. Suddenly, a large number of assassins reveal themselves and surround the group.

As the assassins surround Zeb, Olka, Yor, and Gram, Yor tells them to hide inside a hatch, but she gets held back by a rope user when she tries to guide them there. While Olka and Gram go inside the hatch, an assassin points his gun at them. Zeb sees this and grabs Olka, shielding her from the bullets fired. As they tumble inside the hatch, Zeb shuts the cover. A worried Olka asks Zeb if he is okay, and he complains about how badly he is hurting even while wearing a bulletproof vest, and Olka tells him not to be so reckless.

After Yor and Matthew deal with all the assassins, Olka, Gram and Zeb are taken out of the hatch and go to the storage area. Yor and Matthew prepare the inflatable boat for them to reach the rendezvous and Matthew gives Zeb instructions to stay safe. After bidding goodbye to their bodyguards, Zeb, Olka, and Gram leave Princess Lorelei.
