Zero is the titular protagonist of Zero, an animation which takes place in a world where people's alleged importance is rated by the number on their chest (0-10). Zero is also in the illustrated book, Zero: The Beginning.
Biography[]
Zero was born to a normal family, but with a '0' on his chest, marking his very existence as a bad omen. At his conception, he was taken away from his mother by the midwife.
Later in life, he was bullied every day at school, but it never kept him down for long. One day in school, he and his class were taught that anybody marked as a 0 were strictly forbidden from reproducing, especially if it was with another 0.
As a young adult, Zero met another '0' on the street, and saw that he was missing a leg, so he gave him a coin. That night, he saw a female 0 being attacked by three men, but accidentally knocked over some boxes as he spied on them. This attracted the thugs' attention, and they surrounded Zero as he lay there.
The thugs began to kick Zero repeatedly until he was knocked out. After a minute, with the thugs now gone, a barely-breathing Zero saw an angel standing over him, making him think that he was dead, but it was actually the woman that he'd saved.
As Zero once again fell unconscious, the woman dragged him into the alleyway and bandaged his wounds. The next morning, he awoke beside her, slouched against the brick wall. They became acquainted and even held hands as they sat there.
Just then, two police officers (each labelled as a 7), walked past them and noticed them both holding hands. After several weeks, Zero and his girlfriend had been on several dates, when the two officers spotted them again, this time in the park. That night, when the two 0's were alone in the park, they had intercourse.
Shortly afterwards, the officers shined their headlights on them and physically separated the couple. As they fought back, one of the officers whacked the woman in the face, knocking her out, and they then arrested Zero.
Nine months later, Zero was in his prison cell looking out onto the street from his window, when he began to draw on his wall. Afterwards, somebody tossed a flower into his cell from the window. Zero looked out to the street and saw his girlfriend across the road, wearing a tranchcoat. She opened the coat and revealed that she was heavily pregnant.
However, this also revealed the '0' on her chest, which pedestrians around her had quickly noticed, before surrounding her, making her fall over as she trembled. From this point, she had gathered a large crowd, making Zero unable to see her properly. Amongst the crowd was a nurse, who figured that she was in labour, and helped deliver the baby.
Just as a baby's crying was heard, the crowd looked amazed, and then bowed their heads, before leaving. A short time later, Zero's prison cell opened from behind him, and in came his girlfriend, holding a pair of siamese newborns with the infinity sign on their chest - the highest and most respected number in the world.
