Lieutenant Zeyad Khalil (Arabic: زياد خليل) is a major supporting character in the 2015 science fiction video game, Call of Duty: Black Ops III.
He is a member of the Egyptian Army who wants to defeat the NRC to stop their control of the Nile River, and assists the CIA in stopping Dylan Stone and his team. He was captured during the Cairo uprising, but was rescued alongside Minister Said by Jacob Hendricks, the Player, and John Taylor's team. When the Player dies of their sustained injuries from the operation, they go through a simulation created by Corvus, thus putting Khalil as assisting them in stopping John Taylor's team.
He was voiced by Noshir Dalal, who also voiced Sekiro in the English dub of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Charles Smith in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Biography[]
Manhunt of Dylan Stone[]
“ | They just keep coming. The NRC assault is relentless - we're struggling to gain a foothold in this fight. We need more air support if we're to secure the platform. | „ |
~ Khalil to Taylor/The Player (simulation) in "Sand Castle". |
Zeyad Khalil is the commanding officer of the Egyptian Army, and fought against the Nile River Coalition during the war for the Nile river. When Dylan Stone and his team leaked data worldwide, CIA agent Rachel Kane and WA operatives John Taylor and Jacob Hendricks decided to work with the Egyptian Army to stop them. Khalil agreed to have his soldiers capture Dr. Yousef Salim, a psychotherapist who was a head member of the Coalescence Corporation, and was a member of the CIA illegal black project, SP/CORVUS.
Khalil met with Kane, Taylor and Hendricks after they traveled via train, and told them that his men successfully captured Dr. Salim. He also told them they wouldn't be able to hold him much longer due to fighting the NRC, stating that they only reason they can still fight is due to Raul Menendez's actions in 2025. Hendricks rebuffs his remarks, stating that Menendez was a maniac who nearly destroyed the world, but Khalil states that his actions caused the allied nations to create the D.E.A.D. system.
Khalil allows the group to interrogate Dr. Salim, but it's cut shot by the NRC attacking Ramses Station. Khalil participated in fighting the NRC at the station, and later worked with Taylor and Hendriks in blowing up the ground with spikes to stop NRC forces. After dealing with NRC robots and ASP tanks, Khalil is informed by Kane that Stone and his team captured Dr. Salim, and that the D.E.A.D. systems are down, leaving the Egyptian Army vulnerable. Taking cover in a building, Khalil tells Taylor that all is lost, but John tells him that he put a tracker on Dr. Salim. Khalil later worked with the WA operatives in trying to reach Dr. Salim, but they are attacked Alice Conrad. Khalil, Taylor, Hendricks and the Egyptian Army stopped her, and Taylor interrogated Conrad on Stone's motivations.
Taylor killed Conrad afterward, and Khalil and the Egyptian Army aided Taylor, Kane and Hendricks in fighting the NRC at the Aquifers in Bawati, Egypt. Khalil manages to locate Dylan Stone and Joseph Fierro, who are attempting to leave the area. Khalil manage to use the Aquifers protocols to stop Fierro from escaping, and Taylor and Hendricks proceed to reach the location to kill him. Learning that Stone is hiding at Lotus Towers, Taylor and the group plan to have the Egyptian Army to distract the NRC while he and Hendricks confront Stone.
After faking surrender to NRC shield wilders, Taylor kills NRC general Abasi Hakim, and Khalil tells the civilians to take back Cairo. Khalil is supported by the Civilian Militia, but tells Taylor and Hendricks that they must separate so they could stop Stone. While Taylor and Hendricks chase Stone, Khalil calls for help when he's surrounded by NRC forces and captured.
Ethiopia[]
“ | Khalil was a hero of the Cairo uprising. You know that will make him a valuable asset for their propaganda! They will make an example of him. | „ |
~ Minister Said to Hendricks. |
Khalil was brought to the NRC's airfield in Ethiopia a few months after his capture, and was tortured before Minister Said was captured. Khalil was rescued by Hendricks and his unit (with the Player) on Minister Said's demand, despite their orders on only rescuing the minister. After that, Khalil works with Hendricks, the Player, Said, Taylor and his team on escaping from Ethiopia. When swarmed by grunts, Khalil and the group take an APC to exfiltration until Hendricks too fast to the area.
After holding off NRC soldiers and grunts, Khalil and Said were safely extracted from the area alongside Hendricks. However, the Player was left behind, and brutally attacked by a grunt before being saved by Taylor.
Simulation[]
The events of the campaign were simulated by Corvus, who was an artificial intelligence born upon the Singapore disaster. The Player died from medical complications in the Coalescence's hospital, and Corvus was reborn, and entered Taylor's mind with the Player's conscious. Corvus then took Taylor's memories to learn of his creation by having the Player live the manhunt on Dylan Stone. However, Corvus made the Player take Taylor's place, as Taylor and his team took Stone and his team's place. Khalil appears in the simulation, supporting Kane and the group on stopping Taylor's team.
